Beechwood Tigers Notes 9-15-14

Featured Replies

Beechwood's varsity team took all their anger from the previous week's disappointing loss to Dixie Heights out on Holy Cross as they rolled to a completely overpowering 58-0 win. Despite the JV playing most of the second half, Beechwood held Holy Cross to 9 yards rushing on the night. That is how dominating Beechwood was in this one. On the offensive side, Beechwood ran the ball at will all night. Standout QB Kyle Fieger did throw 6 passes on the night just to get a little live action for the passing game. Fieger went 5-6 for 95 yards and a TD. The running game was led by Ethan Stringer's 90 yards on 7 carries and 3 TD's. The Tigers spread the ball around in the running game with Joe Studer, Casey Erdman and Jonathon Stokes all making nice contributions.

The win was the Tigers first of the season after losing their first two to big schools in Cincinnati Mt. Healthy and Dixie Heights. Beechwood needed that momentum as they host one of the highest ranked 5A schools in the state this coming Friday, the Franklin County Flyers. This will be Beechwood's first home game of the year. With their first two games against strong big school opponents, Beechwood should be well prepared for Friday night.

Franklin County comes into this game off a hard fought win over Beechwood 1A rival, the Frankfort Panthers who are ranked ahead of Beechwood in the 1A polls at #2 in the state. Franklin County won that game 22-13. It was a different kind of game than what those two have played in the past. Franklin County has been one of the highest scoring teams in the state the past few years but last Friday's game was more of a defensive battle. The leading offensive players for Franklin County are QB Barrett Sanderson and back/receiving threats Landon Hurst and Denzel Vance. Franklin County comes to Ft. Mitchell on Friday night undefeated at 3-0. Game time is 7:30 pm.

Junior Varsity

Beechwood's JV team also earned their first win last week with a 38-6 victory over rival Newport Central Catholic. Beechwood is working on developing young athlete Dalton Everett into a QB. Two games in it is showing some promise. Everett has not played QB before but he may be the best athlete on the JV team. He has good size, speed and strength. His first game was a litle rough. But he showed great improvement in game two and had some very good throws. It is going to be fun watching and seeing the growth of this young athlete at this position.

There are some other players making very good impressions on the JV squad. Aiden Justice is looking very good at RB. Trevor Soward is a nice looking player at RB and on defense at LB. Lucas Benson is impressing with his play at TE and DE. This coming Saturday the JV will host the Scott Eagles, 10 am at Beechwood.

Freshman

The freshman team is off to a good start with two wins in their first two games over Holy Cross and Newport. There are a number of players playing good football for the freshman team. QB Brayden Burch is doing a good job leading the offense and throws ball well. RB Logan Castleman plays very hard and has impressed. Eddie Erdman is a hard hitting tackler from his LB spot and covers the field from sideline to sideline. Daniel Mescher is an impressive kicker and defensive back. This Thursday the Tiger freshmen travel to Lloyd to take on a very tough Juggernaut squad.

There are some recognizable names in those key players in the JV and freshman notes. The underclass teams seem to be holding their own so far. That bodes well for the future.
