Williamsburg?

Featured Replies

Can someone tell me about the Williamsburg-Knox Central game last year in the first game of the regionals?

They won that game, and after taking a look at this year's roster I see they only had 2 seniors and had 5 eighth graders. Some perspective on this team, please.

In general, I can tell you that Williamsburg has good athletes in both of the Griffith kids. The older of the two was supposed to be one of the top 10 players in the region and sat out most of the season when he got hurt in the State Football Semis. Once he got back, they were a different team. I'd be willing to bet that looking back at their record, you can probably tell when he got back just from their results. If you're being deceived by their roster and regular season record, then that probably explains a lot of it.

This year they'll have Fred Massey, a transfer from Harlan County, who'll be another solid starter for them. I don't know a lot about what they have outside of those three kids, but I do know that both of the Griffith kids would play for anyone in the region and that Massey is a kid who had started on some good Harlan County teams last season (and I'm thinking either started or played a lot the season before). Hope that helps.

Williamsburg should be the favorite in the 50th district, which includes Corbin, South Laurel and Whitley Co.

I'd say Corbin will be the favorite with Williamsburg a close second. Then Whitley and then South.
