Frankfort High Notebook Week 0

Bluegrass Preps 2nd Rank team in Class 1A Frankfort High Panthers are on the road this week to take on the Lincoln County Patriots of Class 5A this Friday in the Death Valley Bowl. As the Panthers prepare for Lincoln County Coach Foley is focused on fine tuning and getting healthy. Coach Foley’s Panthers already had depth issues on the offensive line but during the preseason things have gotten tougher for the Panthers as they have several linemen banged up.

Last week the Panthers hosted their annual Grid. The Panthers scrimmaged Doss and Lou. Southern. What did Foley learn last week about his Panthers? He learned he had some potential in a couple of young offensive linemen. None of the young guys stood out on film and that is a good thing, Foley said. Because when you play young guys your fear is they will struggle. Foley feels he has found some temporary relief until his starters can return.

This week’s game plan is simple for the Panthers as they prepare for Lincoln County Foley, stop Lincoln’s power running game. One thing you pick out on film with Lincoln County is committed to running the football and they do a good job doing it. Lasts week in scrimmage with West Jessamine, Lincoln County dominated the line of scrimmage. Foley says it will be important to put Lincoln County in long yardage situations as much as possible.

On Offense this week Foley is please with where his offense is at this early point, but wants to see more scoring out of the unit. This week the game plan is simple utilize their team speed to get on the edge. Foley wants to score often and early to take pressure off his defensive unit. The Panthers are still trying to settle on a quarterback and will look to play last year’s starter Junior Anthony Robison and will also play Junior Deshawn Newton. Each quarterback creates a different problem for the defense. Foley says, Good news is both young men can be on the field at the same time and the defense never know you will be the QB until the ball is snapped.

Player spot light of the week:

(The player spot light of the week will be to highlight different players throughout the season.)

Week Zero player spot light is senior offensive lineman Morgan Campbell. Morgan busted into the starting line up late last season and hasn’t looked back since. This season Morgan has been key in helping develop some of the young offensive lineman. Morgan has done that by taking some of the young guys under his wing and been sharing his knowledge with them. Spending extra time in between plays talking them through blocking assignments and alignment of defense. This past week Morgan had an outstanding scrimmage scoring the highest in offensive line production. During the scrimmage he was asked to play a different position than he normally plays. He stepped up to the challenge. During the scrimmage Morgan continued to mentor the young offensive lineman playing next to him.

Good stuff. Proud of Mr Campbell, he is a good kid.
