South Oldham 28 Shelby County 7

Very impressed with the South defense tonight. The DL consistently got pressure, with Tyler Covington and Trey Mills looking especially impressive. Conner John and Nick Bass at LB were very active and aggressive.....Take away a 67 yard pass play for a touchdown - where the WR puled made a tremendous individual play, plucking the pass from the hands of two South defenders, leading to the score - and South was "pitching a shutout."

The South offense was a bit behind the D, but new starting QB Michael McGee made some nice deep throws, and RB Starr Thompson showed what speed can do for you. The new starter at the other wing, Adam Clark, hauled in a short pass over the middle and took it on a catch-and-run for 71 yards and a score.... FB Kevin Kuriger is a proven commodity after rushing for over 1,100 yards last year.....

I think Ethan Reinert may prove a capable replacement for Davis Culbertson at WR; he had some impressive moves after the catch tonight....

Hunter Hamilton had a nice first game at center, replacing the graduated all-star Figg.....

The kicking game was about the only sour note of the evening for South; punting, kickoffs, and field goals all looked "iffy", but it was the first night. Those will undoubtedly get better.

Best of luck to Todd Shipley and his gang.....the Rockets were definitely not in the Dragons' league tonight, but Shipley always does remarkable things in Shelbyville.
