This Is Tomcat Football

'This is Tomcat football'

The Independent

When Leon Hart was being considered to be Ashland’s next football coach in 2002, the committee met with him at the Cracker Barrel in Mt. Sterling for discussion.

As with most coaching searches, the committee was being discreet as possible to protect the candidate.

When Hart looked across the room, he saw a familiar face looking back at him.

Herb Conley, the Ashland icon, came over to the table, shook Hart’s hand and looked the committee members in the eyes, as only he can, and said this: “If you don’t make him Ashland’s next coach, you’re making a big mistake.”

And with that endorsement from the most respected figure in Ashland Tomcat football history in his hip pocket, Hart became the Tomcat coach where he enjoyed a 10-year run, even surpassing Conley on the Ashland win list.

Great article. There was also a 16 page section about Putnam in yesterday's paper. Not sure if that is accessible online or not. From reading some of the articles people planning on attending next Fridays game may want to get their early, or grab their tickets in advance. Season tickets sold out quickly and there is now a waiting list for people wanting them in the future. They are expecting a full house for next weeks game. Should be a great atmosphere for everyone.
