Sparkman (AL) 5 Male 3

Recommended Posts

This was matchup was requested by both coaches, and was a battle to the last pitch of the game.

Sparkman came in as 2 time, defending 7A State Champs, 34-2, and ranked #1 state/#4 nationally by MaxPreps. Another tall order for the Bulldogs.

Both teams swapped runs in the first 3 innings, going into the 4th tied up 2-2. Bottom 4th with time expired, Sparkman gets a 2 out, 2 strike single from their 9 hole batter to roll the lineup over to their lethal lead off batter, Brevia Robinson. She is the fastest player I have ever seen on a softball field, hands down. Male intentionally walks her, and on a 3-2 count 2 hole batter jerks a hanging screw ball, line drive over LF wall to close it out, 5-3.

Highlights for the Bulldogs included 10 strikeouts and 5 hits (2 ea to the 1 & 2 hole batters) for Wireman and another HR for Suski, her 2nd of the night.

Heartbreak of a loss, but awesome job of competing with one of the top HS teams in the country....and shushing a couple obnoxious Sparkman dads who we're spouting off about how Male was "about to see how softball is done down here, AL style" before the game......crickets afterwards :whistling:

Wow, great showing by Male. Sparkman is a very good team.

From looking at the scoreboard all of the other Kentucky teams also played very well. Allen County-Scottsville beat Decatur 12-0 and Madison Academy 6-0, Madisonville-North Hopkins beat Hazel Green 4-3 and Hueytown 2-0, Ballard beat Hillcrest 7-6 (a very good team, #2 in 6A behind Sparkman) and Sumiton Christian 9-1 (#1 in 1A). Do you know how Mercy did yesterday?

I know mercy won 1 on Lasley's walk off HR yesterday, and was put out by Hilcrest today in bracket.

Male came out flat as a pancake this AM, and was sent home by Wilson Central, TN.

Assumption eliminated by Spain Park.

No word on the other KY teams, but it's good to see the Ws in the Bluegrass column.

Madisonville North Hopkins went 2-1 in Huntsville AL. They beat Hazel Green 4-3 and Hueytown 2-0 in pool play. They lost to Scottsboro AL 4-3 in first round of bracket play. Heather Webb pitched in her first games of the year going 5 innings against Hueytown allowing 2 hits. Pitched against Scottsboro going 6 inning allowing 4 hits and 1 ER. K. Tow came back as well this weekend hitting 3R HR against Scottsboro.

Male HS Softball is currently looking into a "Whataburger" Franchise for Louisville area. Understand the girls loved their food and of course accounted that for the way they played in Florida and Friday Night in Huntsville, AL :brb:
