[h=3]Lady Cards region semis[/h]George Rogers Clark center Sandra Skinner launches a shot over Harrison County’s Jordan Doram in the Lady Cardinals’ 64-42 win over the Fillies Wednesday night in the opening round of the 10th Region Tournament at Mason County High School in Maysville. Skinner led Clark with 23 points and Doram had 26 for Harrison County.

 

 

In its region opener, Clark set the tone on both ends of the court in the first half and won for the ninth time in the past 10 games. The Lady Cards scored the first 11 points and led 15-5 by the end of the first quarter. Clark forward Sandra Skinner scored eight of her team’s first 15 points. Skinner finished with 23 points and tallied 16 of those in the opening half.

 

Skinner made 11 of 12 field goals and made eight shots on nine attempts in the first half. Skinner finished with five rebounds. Sydney Anderson and Lexxus Graham each just missed double figures with nine points each.

 

 

Skinner and the Lady Cards not only were clicking on offense but were equally effective on the defensive end, especially in the first half. Clark forced 11 turnovers in the first two quarters. Harrison didn’t score its first basket until the 1:39 mark of the first quarter on a basket by Jordan Doram.

 

Doram scored eight of the Fillies 11 points in the first half and finished with a game-high 26 points and 12 rebounds.

 

Clark got most of its scoring in transition during the first half, scoring 15 points off Harrison County’s miscues. Overall, the Lady Cards scored 19 points off Harrison County’s 18 errors.

 

 

Clark’s next task figures to be more challenging than the opener. In an earlier-season game, the Lady Cards defeated the Lady Royals 56-54 on Skinner’s basket at the buzzer on Jan. 11 in Maysville.

 

“They wanted a rematch and we wanted a rematch,” Graham said. “It’s two really good teams playing for the opportunity to play (in the regional final) on Sunday. It will be a huge, huge contest for both teams.”
