spindoc Posted February 24, 2014 Posted February 24, 2014 The 62nd may be the best district tourney in the commonwealth. I didn't say the best four teams, I said the best tournament. East Carter, West Carter, Morgan, Elliott, really, who would be surprised if any of the 4 won? I suppose that one could assume Elliott the favorite considering they are 5-2 vs. district opponents, however, they just split with West Carter, their first round opponent. Or maybe East Carter who has recently split with Morgan their first round opponent could be the one cutting down the nets. Of course Morgan has beaten East 2 out of 3 if you consider the EKC victory early. Either way, this has the making of classic. Schedule Games to be played at Morgan County Tuesday Feb 25 @ 7:00 Elliott Co. vs. West Carter Wednesday Feb 26 @ 7:00 Morgan vs. East Carter Final Friday Feb 28 @ 7:00 On Tuesday we will have the rubber match between Elliott and West, both having won at home. Logan Nickell and company look to bury the young Comets on a neutral floor and advance to the region, but Jeremy Webb's young bunch led by Ben Jordan and Braden Brown alongside Jacob Layne will have to play tough to keep the Lions from advancing. This could be a barnburner. On Wednesday the Cougars look to take advantage of their home confines to bounce East. And with all due respect to the rest of the district, East is possibly the biggest surprise. A 2 pt loss to region fave Fleming and a huge victory over Ashland combined with the recent win over Morgan has them confident. Coach Baker's group of Davis , Brammer , Sparks , Greene and Marsh look to avenge an overtime loss at Morgan earlier in the year. Of course Coach Perry will rely on his son Jordan to carry the load. With some recent turmoil in West Liberty, one wonders if it will galvanize them or divide them. Either way, this also has the makings of a good one. Predictions This really is a toss up to a degree, but just in our opinion, we think the final will come down to an Elliott County/East Carter battle. Records out the window in this one, Coach Brandon Baker does his best coaching job to date as he brings the district belt back to Grayson behind a balanced attack. Looking forward to this one.
GWBush Posted February 25, 2014 Posted February 25, 2014 I'm not sure what you mean by "turmoil" in Morgan County. The team has played hard & competed all season. They struggle to score which has been the reason for the losing as of lately. Whatever you have been told is totally incorrect if you are implying their is internal problems.
