2014 3rd Region All-A Tournament

Featured Replies

Well folks it’s that time of the year again, time for each All-A tournament in each region for the small schools. Couple teams that can win the third region this year.

The 3rd region will be held at Butler County High School January 18-24.

Here’s the bracket: http://allaclassic.org/Boys%20Brackets/3rd%20Region%20Boys%20Brackets.pdf

Let’s start it off by team previews then ranking the teams.

The FAVORITE:

Butler County Bears (11-4): The Bears were the 3rd region All-A tournament champions last year and things look good for the Bears to repeat this year. Bears will have two of the top four players in the All-A tournament in Zeke Woodcock and Trevor Jenkins. It will also be hard for any team to go into Butler County and knock the Bears off. The Bears are 3-1 so far this season against teams participating in the 3rd region All-A tournament, beating Whitesville Trinity twice, Frederick Fraize once and losing to Hancock County. The potential second round match-up between Hancock County and Butler County should be a dandy.

The CONTENDER:

Hancock County (8-3): The Hornets already own a victory over the favorite for the 3rd region All-A tournament championship, Butler County, not to mention they are 2-0 against teams in the 3rd region All-A tournament. Hancock County will have two of the top ten players in the 3rd region All-A tournament in Colten Keown and Jake Ogle. Hancock County is also much improved and will create problems for either Butler County or McLean County. Hancock County is playing better than any other team in the All-A tournament.

2 DARK-HORSES:

Owensboro Catholic (6-5): The Aces 2-0 against 3rd region All-A tournament teams with wins over Frederick Fraize and Whitesville Trinity. Owensboro Catholic is also on a 2 game win streak and 6 of their last 10. The one thing that won’t help the Aces though is playing three games in three days without a break but rest assured Coach Murphy will have his team ready to go on Saturday.

McLean County (6-9): Despite the fact that the Cougars are 6-9 they are they are even with Butler County and Owensboro Catholic. Even though the Cougars are 1-2 against 3rd region All-A tournament teams they do own a victory over 3rd region favorite for the regional championship, Owensboro, no other team in the 3rd region All-A tournament can say that. McLean County will have the top player in the 3rd region All-A tournament in Jacob Revlett that will help the Cougars in the 3rd region All-A tournament.
