NewCath 73, Lloyd Memorial 38:

The Thoroughbreds (12-3) handled the host Juggernauts (4-11) to improve to 7-0 in 9th Region action Wednesday.

Jake Schulte paced NewCath with 13 points. Teammate Grant Moeves followed with 11.

The Thoroughbreds open the All “A” 9th Region Tournament on Monday at Covington Holy Cross against Bellevue. Game time is 7:30 p.m.

In a game that saw 13 of the 14 Breds players dent the scoring column, NewCath leaves Erlanger with an easy 73-38 win. Starters were done 2 minutes into the 3rd quarter, and no starter played over 15 minutes. Mac Franzen played the most minutes of any player, garnering 16, however he was the only one not to score.

 

Lloyd simply had no answer for the Breds, NewCath forced the Juggs into 25 turnovers, as well as, 19 steals on the night. However, the Breds had 10 AWFUL turnovers as well.

 

1st Quarter

Jake Schulte led the way with 7 pts., followed by Tanner Moeves who was 2/3 from 3. Zach Pangallo add 4 and Grant Moeves made his only attempt from the field in the quarter for 3. Sergio Gutierrez (3) & Zack Riddle (2) scored for the Juggs.

2nd Quarter

Grant Moeves led the way with 5pts., and Ben Weyer (only pts of the game) and Tanner Moeves scored on break-away dunks. 7 different Breds register pts. in the quarter. For Lloyd, Gutierrez with 5, Riddle 2, & Max Willett 2.

3rd Quarter

Drew McDonald gets the scoring going with a trey, his 1st pts since a free throw in the 2nd Q, followed by a Grant Moeves 3, and a beautiful “alley-oop” dunk by Jake Schulte, via Zach Pangallo and the starters night was over 2 minutes in. Tyler Rawe(3), Jake Smith (4), Josh Verkamp(4) continue the scoring for the Breds. For the Juggs, Sergio Gutierrez was on FIRE in the 3rd, has he drains all 4 of his 3-balls.

Breds JV “sharpshooter” John Ludwig connects on his 1st 2 attempts from “downtown” and Eric Anderson adds one from distance to finish the Breds night from the land of 3.
