#1- Indians win Gateway Classic

Montgomery County hosted & won its annual Gateway Holiday Classic this past weekend. On Friday night against Bell County, the Indians found themselves trailing by 7 at the half, but thoroughly dominated in the second half, outscoring the Bobcats 45-20 on their way to a 66-48 win. Seniors Darius Jones & Bryan Wallace combined for 35 points on 13-22 shooting. On Saturday night it was DeAnte Cisero's 28 points (13-14 FG's) & 8 boards that led MoCo past Lawrence County 76-60. The Sunday championship game was a thriller, featuring 5 ties & 7 lead changes, as Jason Holland's squad held off upstart Lincoln County 57-55 behind 27 points from Wallace. The senior guard was a perfect 10-10 from the charity stripe in helping his team remain undefeated at 12-0 & win its first Gateway Classic since 2007. Wallace, Jones, & Cisero were each named to the All Tournament Team.

#2- Brossart dominates Henry County Invitational

Mike Code's Mustangs played 4 games in the Henry County Invitational & came away victorious in each outing. Against Western Hills the front court tandem of Alex Trentman & Drew Burns was dominant in a 65-41 win. Burns finished with 20 points & 11 boards on 9-13 shooting, while Trentman tallied 22 points & 5 steals on 10-11 shooting. The big boys shined again in a 71-61 win over LaRue County, with Trentman scoring a season-high 35 points (13-18 FG's) & Burns adding 19 points (7-8 FG's). Trentman scored almost half the team's points in a 55-45 win over DeSales. The 6'7" senior poured in 27 & grabbed 10 boards, shooting 7-8 from the floor & 10-11 from the charity stripe. And finally, in a 67-55 victory over host Henry County, Trentman battled foul trouble but led with 17 points. Point guard Jake Jennings finished with 13 & Austin Shannon came off the bench to score 10. Brossart stands strong with a 12-1 record & will take the floor next on Friday night in a rivalry showdown with Campbell County.

#3- Bluejackets win Bracken County Tourney

Having battled some injuries this season, Nicholas County found its stride at the Bracken County Christmas Tournament this past week, bringing home the tourney championship after going 3-0. On Thursday the Jackets defeated Newport 84-81 in a high-scoring affair. Junior guard Tyler Newton drained 5 threes & hit 12-14 from the charity stripe to finish with 35 points, while seniors Scott Keaton & Logan Fryman both earned double-doubles. Keaton finished with 18 points & 11 rebounds. Fryman had 14 points & 11 rebounds. After pounding Burgin 65-32 on Friday, the Jackets upended Pike County Central in the Saturday title game by a score of 61-57. Newton scored 24 of his team-high 26 points in the 2nd half, while Keaton was again strong down low, finishing with 19 points & 5 boards.

#4- Scott struggles in Lloyd Memorial Invitational

The shorthanded Eagles went 1-3 in the Lloyd Memorial Invitational, but things got off to an exciting start after an 88-85 win over Ludlow on Thursday. In a game that featured 6 ties & a whopping 19 lead changes, freshman guard Jake Ohmer poured in 33 points for the Eagles including 13 points in the 4th quarter. Sophomore guard Andrew Trame added 16 for Brad Carr's team. From there, though, the Eagles would drop three straight: 62-49 to Collins, 70-58 to Boone County, & 60-45 to Shelby County. The 5'9" Ohmer had an outstanding tournament for the Eagles, averaging 23.7 points per game in Scott's four outings.

#5- Breds go 1-3 in Republic Bank Classic through Sunday

Harrison County continued its arduous schedule by competing in Lexington Catholic's Republic Bank Classic. Larry Kendall's team started the week off against the host Knights, falling 66-61 on Thursday. D.J. Jenkins scored 16 to lead Harrison County & the loss certainly wasn't a bad one, considering LexCath has made it all the way to tonight's title game. The Breds got 22 points from senior swingman Dillon Pulliam on Friday in a come-from-behind 54-49 win over Clinton County, but then lost its Saturday (Apollo 74-60) & Sunday (Henderson County 87-83) games.

#6- Holbrook reaches 1,000 points plateau

Campbell County took to the floor only once last week and came away victorious in a 70-63 home win over St. Henry on Friday. Four Camels notched double figures, with junior Dre Jackson scoring 16, while sophomores Matt Wilson & Trent McGovney scored 14 & 11 respectively. Corey Holbrook added 15, but it was a milestone night for the senior guard, who eclipsed 1,000 points for his high school career. Campbell improves its record to 7-2 and will next take the floor against Bishop Brossart on Friday night in Alexandria.

#7- Bracken hosts tourney, goes 1-2

The Polar Bears stayed home three times this week, hosting their own Christmas Tournament, but the results weren't the greatest. On Thursday night the Polar Bears led Carroll County at the half, but the Panthers outscored the hosts 22-11 in the 3rd quarter en route to a 72-60 win. Bracken bounced back with a 52-47 win over Beechwood on Friday, avenging a 13-point defeat from a week previous. Saturday night saw Newport outrun & outgun the Polar Bears by a score of 80-61. Austin Crawford, a 6'1" freshman guard, continues to be a bright spot in Brooksville. Crawford scored 26 in the Carroll County loss, 28 in the Newport loss, & is averaging 20.9 ppg, 4.5 rpg, 3.0 apg, & 2.2 spg on the season.

#8- Cards go 1-2 in Lake Cumberland Classic through Sunday

George Rogers Clark started the Lake Cumberland Holiday Classic with a nice 55-52 win over South Laurel on Friday despite playing without stud big man Khmarkis Blanton. Senior Riley Caudill turned in a strong performance with a team-high 21 points, while freshman Jerryd Jones chipped in 13. Blanton was back for game #2 on Saturday, but his presence was not enough as GRC fell to Southwestern 61-54. Blanton scored 11, but the Cards were led by junior guard Damion King's 19 points. Scott Humphrey's bunch was outmatched on Sunday against Top 20 ranked Doss, who came away with a convincing 77-50 victory.

#9- Mason County 1-1 in Florida through Sunday

The Royals went south after Christmas, geographically speaking, and have thus far found mixed results in the Sunshine Classic. Mason County pounded Sullivan Central out of Tennessee 90-45 on Friday & put 4 players in double figures. Junior guards Ryan Johnson & Daerius Johnson both scored 16, while Shawn Johnson added 15 & Jake O'Mara put in 10. Only one Mason County player, junior Dorian Henry, scored double digits on Saturday as Mason County suffered its first defeat of the season to defending tournament champ Dacula (Georgia) 51-34. The Royals were horrendous from the field, hitting only 23.2% of their field goal attempts (13-56). After sitting out Sunday Chris O'Hearn's squad will play one more game on Monday before returning home.

#10- Bach eclipses 2,000 points, but Augusta outmatched in 3 of 4 games

Jason Hinson's Panthers joined Harrison County at the Republic Bank Classic in Lexington this week & quickly found themselves outmatched. Jackson Davis & the Lafayette Generals dominated the Panthers on Friday to the tune of 86-46. Saturday saw 14th Region Class "A" power Hazard hand Augusta a 95-72 defeat despite 36 points from Brent Bach. Hinson made a lineup change on Sunday and Bach scored 33 as Augusta salvaged a 75-64 win against the same Clinton County Bulldogs team that Harrison County beat. The Panthers' time in Lexington ended Monday afternoon with an 82-58 loss to Henry Clay. In the Clinton County game, Bach surpassed the 2,000 points total for his high school career. Current Burgin basketball coach Brian Kirk is the school's all-time leading scorer at 2,222 points. After the Henry Clay game, Bach's career point total stands at 2,052.

Much congrats to both Holbrook & Bach for those scoring milestones. I enjoy watching both of those kids play.

I noticed on Twitter last night that Holbrook reached out to Bach & congratulated him. Very nice gesture by that young man. :thumb:
