Players of the Week

Quentin Snider, Ballard

He won't be on here every week, I promise, but he deserves this one. The Bruins played four games in the first week of the season. In Monday night's opener against No. 8 Scott County, Snider had 32 points, seven assists, six rebounds, and six steals. He followed that with a 28-point game against Seneca, 26 against Arsenal Tech (IN) and 18 versus Moss Point (MS). When the season began, Snider needed 603 points to pass Allan Houston and become Ballard's all-time leading scorer; four games into the season he has 104.

Robert Shaw, St. Xavier

Shaw tallied 29 points and added seven assists at his St. Xavier Tigers beat Central in the season opener on Tuesday night. He put in another 13 en route to his team's victory over Collegiate on Thursday. He'll need to continue his outstanding play in a busy week for the Tigers; they play Eastern, Cincinnati St. Xavier and Covington Catholic in a five-day stretch this week.

Ray Spalding, Trinity

One of the few question marks for the Shamrocks heading into this season was how well Spalding would adjust to his new role as a major contributor. He answered that question emphatically in the positive in the Shamrocks' lone game last week: a come-from-behind road win against Bowling Green. Spalding had 18 points, 12 rebounds and four blocks.

Games of the Week

DuPont Manual at Bardstown, Tuesday, Dec. 10, 7:30 pm

The Crimsons are 1-0 following a season-opening win against Christian Academy-Louisville and now face a stern early test against arguably the top team in the Fifth Region. Expected to star for Manual this season, junior forward Dwayne Sutton had 22 points in the opener.

Eastern at St. Xavier, Tuesday, Dec. 10, 7:30 pm

An outstanding early-season matchup of Seventh Region opponents, both teams will look to build on their opening-week success. PRP transfer Bryce Walker-Byrd scored a team-high 14 points in Eastern's season opener against Shawnee.

Ballard at Male, Friday, Dec. 13, 7:30 pm

This matchup lost some of its luster with Male's surprising early loss at the hands of Western... but a matchup between these two schools is never to be missed. I'm sure Bulldog fans could think of no better way to get the young season back on track.

Trinity vs. Henry Clay, Saturday, Dec. 14, 8:45 pm at Frankfort Civic Center

These two top-15 teams will face off as part of the Capital City Rumble in Frankfort. Each won its lone game of the opening week and would love a big win over a quality opponent as they build their early-season resumes.

JCPS has cancelled all classes today; all extra-curriculars are therefore, by district rule, cancelled as well, which includes basketball games.

Do you think they need to change this rule? Thanks for the update. Any dates of reschedules?

^ Not yet, and since I don't think there were any district games, I don't know that they'll bother as the calendar starts getting pretty crowded after the first of the year.

As for the rule... meh, it doesn't bother me. It seems a little foolish to pre-emptively cancel sporting events that don't take place until 14 hours after the decision to cancel classes is made, but I understand how it makes things much easier on district administrators.
