All State Baseball Posted November 9, 2013 Posted November 9, 2013 Opening round of the 2013 KHSAA playoffs have came and gone, lets see who all made it past the first round and who got sent home for the season. Belfry 42, Jackson County 6 Jackson County made the long haul from McKee to Pikeville to take on the Belfry Pirates. Trenity Carr would get Belfry on the scoreboard first on a 5 yard touchdown run. Austin Woolum would come on and make the extra point kick and Belfry took a 7-0 lead. Belfry’s defense would hold and the Pirates would get the ball back. Belfry would add another score to the scoreboard, this time on a 51 yard touchdown pass from Sani Warren to Keaton Taylor, Woolum’s kick was good and the Pirates took a 14-0 lead. Belfry would get the ball back and score again, this time on a 11 yard run by Justin Johnson. Woolum’s kick would be good and the Pirates lead 21-0. Belfry would get the ball back and add another score before the first quarter ended as Andrew Fletcher would catch a 7 yard touchdown pass from Sani Warren, Woolum’s kick would be good and the Pirates would take a 28-0 lead into the second quarter. Belfry would get things started in the second on a 9 yard touchdown run by Davonte Dari. Woolum’s kick would be good and the Pirates took a 35-0 lead. Belfry’s defense would hold again and Belfry would get the ball back. Justin Johnson would put another score up for the Pirates on a 27 yard pass from Sani Warren. Woolum’s kick would be good and the Pirates took a 42-0 lead into halftime. Their would be only one score in the second half, which came in the third quarter and that was for Jackson County as they would score on a 11 yard touchdown run by Tyler Bailey. Jackson County’s kick would fail, making what would be the final score 42-6 Belfry. Belfry improves to 10-1 on the season and will host Lawrence County next Friday in round 2 of the KHSAA Playoffs. Jackson County falls to 6-5 as their season comes to an end. Belfry head coach, Phillip Haywood gets his 300th career win tonight. Breathitt County 37, Sheldon Clark 14 Sheldon Clark made the trip to Jackson to take on the Breathitt County Bobcats hoping to knock off the Bobcats and pick up their first win on the season and more importantly move on to round 2 in the KHSAA Playoffs. Breathitt County would get on the scoreboard first courtesy of a 5 yard run by Jordan Turner, extra point kick failed and Breathitt County took an early 6-0 lead. Bobcats defense would stand tall and Breathitt would get the ball back and score again, this time on a 1 yard touchdown pass from Adam White to Wes Noble. Michael Hilderbrand would come on and make the extra point kick and the Bobcats took a 13-0 lead into the second quarter. Breathitt County would get things started in the second quarter courtesy of a 14 yard run by Jordan Turner, Breahtitt County’s two point conversion attempt would fail, making it 19-0 Bobcats. Sheldon Clark would finally get on the scoreboard in the second quarter on a 21 yard touchdown pass from Brandon Butcher to Chase Muncy, Sheldon Clark’s two point conversion run would fail, making it 13-6 Breathitt County. Breathitt County would answer with a touchdown pass of their own as Braxton Whitmore and Adam White connect on a 19 yard touchdown pass. Michael Hilderbrand would miss the extra point kick and the Bobcats took a 25-6 lead but the Bobcats into halftime. Breathitt County would be the only team to score in the third quarter and that came on a 3 yard touchdown pass from Adam White to Braxton Whitmore, Hilderbrand would miss the extra point kick making it Breathitt County 31-6 going into the fourth and final quarter. Breathitt County, much like all night, would get things started on 12 yard touchdown run by James Fletcher Collins, Hilderbrand’s extra point attempt would fail, making it 37-6 Breathitt County. Sheldon Clark would answer with a touchdown of their own as Brady Cline takes it in from 10 yards out, Chase Muncy would run in the two point conversion, making what would be the final score, 37-14 Breathitt County. Breathitt County improves to 7-4 with the win and will host Pike County Central next Friday night in the second round of the KHSAA Playoffs. Sheldon Clark falls to 0-10 as their season comes to an end. Mason County 52, Powell County 39 Powell County traveled to Maysville to take on the Mason County Royals looking to upset the 10-0 and #1 Royals. Powell County would get on the scoreboard first on a 3 yard touchdown run by Chance Snowden. Jake Whitt would make the extra point kick, making it 7-0 Pirates. Mason County would answer with a touchdown run of their own as Rashon Nelson would take it in from a yard out, Jacob Thompkins would make the extra point kick tying the game at 7-7. Mason County wouldn’t stop there as they would get the ball back and score again before the first quarter came to an end, this time on a 1 yard run by Jake O’Mara, Thompkins kick would be good, making it 14-7 Mason County going into the second quarter. Powell County, like the first quarter, would get on the scoreboard first courtesy of a 33 yard touchdown run by Hank Tindall, Jake Whitt would make the extra point kick tying the game at 14-14. Mason County, however would regain the lead on a 51 yard touchdown run by Pete King, Thompkins kick would split the uprights and the Royals retook the lead 21-14. Mason County would get the ball back and score again, this time on a 93 yard touchdown run by Rico Hill, Thompkins would make the extra point kick and the Royals took a 28-14 lead. Mason County would add another score to go up 35-14, this time on a 3 yard run by Rashon Nelson, Thompkins kick would be good and the Royals took a commanding 35-14 lead. Powell County would answer though on a 14 yard touchdown pass from Chance Snowden to Brett Goodwin, Jake Whitt would make the extra point kick, making it 35-21 Royals at the half. Mason County would get on the scoreboard first in the third quarter on a 32 yard field goal by Jacob Thompkins, making it, 38-21 Royals but Powell County would come right back and score on a 10 yard touchdown pass from Chance Snowden to Brett Goodwin, Powell County’s two point conversion attempt would fail making it 38-27 Royals. Mason County would add another score to their total on a 65 yard touchdown run by Rico Hill, Thompkins kick would be good, making it 45-27 Mason County going into the final quarter. Powell County would get on the scoreboard first in the final frame on a 47 yard touchdown pass from Chance Snowden to Steven Skidmore, Jake Whitt would miss the extra point kick, making it 45-33 Mason County. Mason County would answer on a 18 yard touchdown run by Rashon Nelson, Thompkins would make the extra point kick and the Royals took a 52-33 lead but the Pirates would inch closer, this time on a 10 yard touchdown pass from Chance Snowden to Steven Skidmore, Powell County’s two point conversion attempt would fail, making it 52-39 Mason County. Mason County improves to 11-0 and will host Garrard County next Friday night in the second round of the KHSAA Playoffs. Powell County falls to 7-4 as their season comes to an end. Perry County Central 28, North Laurel 15 North Laurel made the trip from London to Hazard to take on the Commodores of Perry County Central in what many thought, North Laurel would win, lets take a recap of the action. Both teams would stay scoreless until the second quarter where Perry Central would put 14 on the scoreboard. Nathan Pray would get things started for Perry Central on a 13 yard touchdown run, Tate Wyrick would make the extra point kick making it 7-0 Commodores. Perry Central would stop North Laurel’s offense and get the ball back for the Commodore Offense where the Commodores would score on a 23 yard touchdown run by Seth Napier, Tate Wyrick would make the extra point kick and the Commodores took a 14-0 lead into halftime. North Laurel would get things started in the third quarter and be the only team to score in the third and it came on a 13 yard touchdown run by Jake McFadden, Michael Nelson would run in the two point conversion to cut the Perry Central lead to 14-8 going into the final and fourth quarter. Perry Central would put some daylight between them and North Laurel on a 11 yard touchdown run by Nathan Pray, Josh Garry would receive a pass from Nathan Pray to convert the two point conversion as Perry County Central would take a 22-8 lead. North Laurel would get closer as Jake McFadden would take it in from 3 yards out, Keaton Kennedy would make the extra point kick making it 22-15 Perry Central. Commodores would ice it on a 24 yard touchdown run by Nathan Pray, Tate Wyrick would miss the extra point kick, making, what would be the final score, 28-15 Perry County Central, in a upset. Perry County Central improves to 6-5 on the season and will travel to Pulaski County next Friday in the second round of the KHSAA Playoffs. North Laurel falls to 8-3 as their season comes to an end. Les Posted November 10, 2013 Posted November 10, 2013 Very important info left out of North Laurel wrap-up. Jags lost leading rusher and program's leading rusher Gabe Blair on first offensive play of the game & Their top offensive lineman on the same play. That played a huge role in final outcome.
