Complete effort Rams' key in shutout of Ironton

RACELAND — It was technically win No. 501, but Raceland coach T.J. Maynard still sees it as No. 500.

 

The Rams held Ironton to just 126 yards of offense to finish the regular season with a 17-0 win on Friday night at Raceland-Worthington High School.

 

After sanctions against Fairview gave Raceland a forfeit win from last year, the Rams’ official win total reached 500 earlier in the morning.

 

But Maynard said that he and his team will always see the win over Ironton as the true milestone mark.

 

“You win games on the field,” Maynard said. “You earn wins, so this is our 500th win. And I’m tickled to death, not only for our players, but past players and past coaches. This program has been here a long time before me and will be here a long time after me.”

RACELAND, Ky. — The Ironton Fighting Tigers couldn’t get it started, and that meant they had reached the end.

Ironton couldn’t get its offense untracked and thus the Fighting Tigers lost 17-0 to the Raceland Rams Friday in the regular season finale.

The loss also brought an end to the Fighting Tigers’ playoff hopes as finished 3-7 and will be 10th in Region 17 of Division V.

“We didn’t control the line of scrimmage on offense and that’s where it starts,” said Ironton coach Mark Vass. “(Raceland) has got size and they’re pretty good up front. They gave us fits up there so we had trouble running the ball.”

Raceland shuts out Ironton

RACELAND, Ky. -- Kentucky Class A playoff-bound Raceland delivered a blow to Ironton's playoff aspirations in Ohio Division V, Region 17 with a 17-0 blanking of the Fighting Tigers in a Friday football game at Ram Stadium.

The Rams go into the playoffs next week with an 8-2 record. Ironton, 3-7, needed a lot of help from other teams Friday to get a playoff berth.

Connor Messer's 24-yard touchdown reception from Adam Elkins put Raceland ahead in the third quarter, 17-0. Messer, a 6-foot-3 wide receiver, out-jumped the Fighting Tigers to make the catch in the end zone.

Later in the third period Ironton had a good scoring opportunity snuffed out by an interception in the end zone.

Ironton stopped Raceland on downs early in the fourth quarter, giving the Fighting Tigers a chance to get back in it. A series of turnovers followed with both teams having passes intercepted. The Rams took the ball back with another interception by Maverick Dixon, his third of the game, with about seven minutes remaining.

All very good articles. This Raceland team I believe may very well be peaking at the right time. They break the huddle with "Family" and that is exactly how they play. The kids on this team have been through a lot, both good and bad and have been through some things that a kid shouldn't have to deal with and each time it has made them stronger. They have kept focus on what they want to accomplish.

I, for one am Proud of this team and I don't believe that they are through yet. :thumb:

Fans, especially at Raceland expect a lot and will let the team know it, most times when it is unfounded but Everyone associated in any way with this Rams football team has had nothing but praise. From the people in the two communities that make up this school system, the Ram Fans no matter where they may live in this country, the school administration, teachers, workers, students and everyone in between are "One" behind this team.......RAM PRIDE is as high as I can remember it.
