MHSCardinal Posted November 2, 2013 Posted November 2, 2013 Like back in the 60s and early 70s? Think how great the playoffs would be compared to now. Using this is an example, 1a and 2a were combined, 3a and 4a were combined, 5a and 6a were combined. Here's a scenario of how Region 1 may look: A Butler Co vs Caldwell Co Murray vs Russellville Union Co vs Mayfield Ballard Mem vs OB Catholic AA F.Simpson vs Tilghman Trigg Co vs Owensboro Madisonville vs S.Warren Monroe Co vs Ft Campbell AAA W.Central vs McCracken Co Graves Co vs Meade Co Christian Co vs B.Green C.Hardin vs Henderson Co I'll say this much, there'd be a whole lot more interest in the early round games then their is now, that's for sure. Look at the great potential 1st round matchups. I know it'll never come back, but, sure would be a lot of fun if it did and I think it'd be great if all the championship games could be played in 1 day. Just for fun, how would some of the other region matchups look, using this same format? In know, I know, I'm bored, but, who wants to talk about all these exciting week 1 playoff games coming up like the Caverna/Mayfield game, so, humor me, please..
Sandman Posted November 2, 2013 Posted November 2, 2013 Great thread idea, and I've been saying for a while Kentucky in a three class system could produce some incredible playoffs games from week one. I'm not sure how you arrived at your first round matchups, since obviously all the schools didn't play each other. I guess we'd have to go on pure speculation. In NKY, there would be nothing to see in AA as there are no AAA schools, so I'd have to say everyone would wait for the Highlands v CovCath round 2 game, as is now the case. In class A, Beechwood and NCC would be fun to watch at some point. In the meantime, Newport and Bellevue would be a good game as Newport has obviously improved. If Lloyd and Bellevue were paired in a first round contest, that game would garner a lot of interest as well. In AAA, there would be a lot of potentially good early round matchups. Scott playing either Simon Kenton or Dixie would be compelling to a lot of folks in Kenton County. A Simon Kenton v Conner rematch would be a big draw as well. Ultimately whoever came through the gauntlet that would likely end up being Simon, Conner, Dixie and Campbell County would be a heck of a regional, district final.
