gold sunrise Posted October 27, 2013 Posted October 27, 2013 Basketball season for 2013/2014 should provide another exciting year. What should we expect from Somerset? Remember, please be constructive.
SHS Future Posted November 13, 2013 Posted November 13, 2013 The Jeff Cothron era got off to a great start last year with the first year coach leading the Briar Jumpers to the region finals for the first time in 24 years. They fell short last year, but that has left them ready to start this year even more determined. They have some big shoes to fill though, and what I mean by big shoes is 6’5”, 6’7”, and 6’6”. The graduation of Tyson Williams, Ryan Weddle, and the transfer of Jarod Farris will leave the Jumpers a little smaller this year. But don’t think that because they are smaller they won’t be competitive. Somerset is the favorite in the 47th District and will be my dark horse for the 12th Region this year. They will be led by under the radar, All Region, senior Ryan Dishman. When he is in the zone, he is tough to stop. He scored 25 points in one half vs. Southwestern last year and in my opinion is a top 10 player in the region. He will be joined by fellow seniors Cam Cheuvront and Braydon McWilliams. Cheuvront has been a 4 year starter for the Jumpers and brings a lot of speed (state champion in track), and hops. They will be joined by juniors Tyler Dishman and Austin Coomer. A name to watch for in the Jumper line up is freshman Landon Powell. The kid is young but can play. The goal is the same this year but they will be doing it in a different fashion. It may take a month or two to find their stride but I expect them to be a tough out come tournament time.
First Posted November 16, 2013 Posted November 16, 2013 I know they lost a lot of size, but what do they have coming back (in terms of size)? I don't know the height of some of these kids. Where do you rank them in the region?

Where do you rank them in the region? Somerset is not going to have a lot of size. The tallest in the probable starting five is 6'3" maybe 6'4". They do have 6'7" on the bench that could contribute as the season progresses. I would rank Somerset as a top 10 team but not top 5 preseason.
