All State Baseball Posted October 20, 2013 Share Posted October 20, 2013 With the season winding down, here is a recap of all the action throughout the mountains in Week 8. - Breathitt County 38, Morgan County 26 The Cougars traveled to Jackson to take on Breathitt County Bobcats in what would, pretty much be, the district championship game, even tho both teams have at least one district game remaining. Kody Thornsberry got Morgan on the scoreboard first, courtesy of a 28 yard run. Morgan would mix the extra point kick and the Cougars lead 6-0. That wouldn’t last long as John Gilbert would return the kickoff 81 yards back for the touchdown, Michael Hilderbrand would make the extra point kick and just like that, Breathitt lead 7-6. Thornsberry would give Morgan County the lead once again, this time on a 68 yard run, Morgan’s two point conversion would fail, making it 12-7 Cougars going into the second quarter. Hunter Collins would add another score for the Cougars on a 7 yard touchdown run and yet again, Morgan’s two point conversion would fail, making it 18-7 Cougars. John Collins would get some of that back for the Bobcats on a 2 yard touchdown run, Breathitt’s two point conversion would fail, making it 18-13 Cougars. Breathitt would strike again before halftime, this time on a 52 yard touchdown run by James Fletcher Collins, Breathitt’s two point conversion would fail and the Bobcats would lead 19-18 over Morgan County at halftime. Morgan would strike first and be the only time they’d score in the second half and it came on a 58 yard interception return by Jake Henry, Hunter Collins would run in the two point conversion and Morgan County would take the lead26-19. Jordan Turner would bring the Bobcats to within one point after a 1 yard run, Breathitt’s two point conversion would fail, making it 26-25 Morgan County going into the final quarter. Bobcats would strike on a 11 yard touchdown pass from quarterback Adam White to wide receiver Glenn Campbell, Breathitt’s two point conversion would fail and the Bobcats retook the lead, 31-26. Breathitt’s defense would stand tall and when the Bobcats got the ball back they’d add another score, this time on a 4 yard run by Jordan Turner. Michael Hilderbrand would add the extra point kick, making it 38-26 Bobcats. Breathitt improves to 4-4 (3-0 districts). Bobcats will travel to Hindman next Friday to take on the Knott County Central Patriots in the final district game of 2013. Morgan County falls to 4-4 (2-1 districts). Morgan County will host the Hornets of Magoffin County next Friday night in the final district game of 2013. Winner will finish second in district play and host a playoff game while the loser will be third and have to go on the road in the first round.
