The Highlands volleyball team knocked off Covington Holmes, 2-0 (25-9, 25-19) on Monday. The Bluebirds are 12-19 overall.

Highlands hits the road to face Covington Holy Cross on Tuesday. Game time is 7 p.m.

Louisville Mercy 3, Newport Central Catholic 0:

The Lady Breds (14-14) lost on the road to the 30-0 and top-ranked Jaguars, 3-0 (25-12, 25-14, 25-13).

Setter Alyssa Maier again led NewCath with 16 assists and Madison Volk recorded 10 digs. Teammate Keyaira Lankheit followed with six kills with Rachel McDonald contributing five kills and eight digs.

NewCath faces Simon Kenton on Senior Night at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. This marks the final regular season home match for six NewCath seniors in Maier, Volk, Nikki Kiernan, Abbie Lukens, Molly Mertle and Rachel Parnell.

Mercy is actually 29-1. They lost to Assumption.

Mercy is stupid good!! Excellent facilities if you have never been there, was very impressed. Nice soccer and softball fields as well.

 

Mercy's height and power were too much for the Breds tonight. Newcath trailed in games 1 & 3 11-7 at one point before Mercy put NewCath away, and in game 2 Mercy held a 15-13 advantage and then went on a 10-1 run to close it out. NewCath JV went down, and hard, 21-6 & 21-3.

 

The Breds gave a very good effort but Mercy was too much.
