The Season Thus Far

Featured Replies

The regular season is a little more than half over and while anything could happen in the post season, it's pretty clear who the powers are. Who are some of better individual performers to this point?

Garbig and Davis-Roberts from Highlands are both good players, a couple of the best in the region. Evan O'Hara........also top notch.

Have not seen everyone play but seriously, that's about it in N. Ky. There are some good younger players on several teams but those three are probably the best three in the area.

Without being critical of those three players you have mentioned (because I have not seen them play), what makes them top notch? Foot skills? Size? Speed? Agility? I can't say that I am the best judge of talent because I don't feel that I understand the game well enough to say who the better players are in this area, but I have watched plenty of games and I feel that I have seen a number of players that are very good. College good? Maybe not, but still good players and fun to watch.

I've seen Brossart a couple of times this year, and they have a hand full of very nice players on the team. Berkemeyer is very quick, Neinabor is very solid especially coming off want could have been a season ending injury. But my favorite so far has been Jake Jennings. He is able to score almost at will (I read he had a hat trick tonight) and sees the field very well. He passes with confidence to set up his team mates. He is not a big kid, but strong as an ox. He makes up for any shortcomings of his size with speed and hard nose play. Very tough kid. I think he will win a few accolades for his play on the soccer field this year and he is the secret weapon for Brossarts hoops team as well. Another kid who will go out there and do the things needed to win, yet you won't always see his name in the paper. Even though you may not see his name in ink very often, I'm sure opposing coaches and players have him on their radar.

Size, speed, agility.....all good things to have and those three have them in my opinion but if that was the criteria the list of players would be much longer. A high skill level and ability to play at a high level is really what separates them from anyone else I've seen in N. Ky. this year. I have not seen everyone in N. Ky this year but have a pretty good idea of what other teams have. Treadway from Scott would be on this list normally but he's not really played much. Not sure that any of those three are D1 players, that's a high bar, but possibly Garbig and O'Hara.

I saw O'Hara play football this year, and he was the best player on the field for Boone. (OK maybe that's not saying much, but he was really good.)

I would agree there doesn't seem to be any standout players this year within NKY. I suppose the better question would be.....what players are game changers? By this I mean who are the players that if they weren't on the field, the team overall performance would significantly suffer.

Luke Treadway is the most obvious choice. If healthy, his ability to put the ball in the net is unmatched, not even close. Evan O'Hara performs week in and week out, best player on one of the better teams in the area. Kris Garbig is also an exceptional player at Highlands. Zane Ross has posted big numbers despite Cooper's woeful performance as a team. I am basing my opinion on watching these four play with and or against each other for several years on the club scene. I know there are more, but these are the four that I am most familiar with.
