Lions’ senior CB Smith has a dozen picks, still counting

CANNONSBURG — Being the ball hawker he is, Boyd County senior defensive back Jason Smith took notice that new head coach John Gilliam’s previous job was defensive coordinator at Morehead State University.

 

Smith intercepted eight passes as a junior, equaling the second most by a player for one season in Boyd County history.

 

Given Gilliam’s background as a longtime college assistant, it’s no wonder Smith is eager to soak up all the teaching that comes his way.

Boyd County’s Jason Smith, shown during a practice earlier in the summer, has been a ballhawk in the Lions’ secondary. Last season he had eight interceptions, tying the second most for a Boyd County player in a season.
