Ky U-16 Colonels 2 Futures Stars 2 Left in the 5th inning

Featured Replies

Had to leave in the 5th innings as I had a prior commitment.

Noah Galvin: Pitching

78 Pitches 5 innings 24 PA 7 Hits 2 runs 2 earned runs 2 walks and 1 K

As does happen around 80% of the time in HS baseball, those two walks came around and scored both of the runs.

Huge big hint to HS pitchers from Theoldguy: Do you want to win games? Then don't walk batters. Pretty simple really! A very good hitter if he goes three for ten hits 300 and thus only gets on base three times out of 10 attempts. That is 70% of the time in your favor he makes an out, so if he hits the ball the odds are in your favor of him making an out but if you walk the batter, better than 80% of the time, he scores! Think about it! :banghead: banghead.png

Colonels hitters in my time at this game.

Galvin 1/2 single (his CR sorry I didn't get the CR #) scored a run

Sullivan 1/2 single

Schmidt 1/2 single, reached base via E-6t

Smallwood 0/2 reached base via E-6c, scored a run

Schwartz 0/2 reached base via E-1t

TOG, your advice is spot on.

Your 80% stat is not close though.

MLB stats show that a runner who reaches first base with no outs in an inning scores about 40% of the time. Obviously reaching base with more than zero outs would result in a lower %.

Clyde I was talking HS and not the MLB, huge, huge, huge difference between MLB stats and HS stats. Proof? My books from years and year of HS score keeping! Walks come back far, far to often in HS baseball (HBP too) to come back to bite you in the butt!

Friends kids on the team and heard they lost 7-2. Also heard it was Galvin's first time pitching since a UCL strain early in the season at CCH. How many balls and strikes were thrown by Galvin?

Hey All........Not meaning for this to come off wrong, but can we start a new broader category for Summer ball? This one is HS Baseball and I do realize that HS players do play here, but (strictly being selfish here) when I travel and come back after 2 and 3 days of being out, I really would like to go through the HS stuff on a HS category and not have to page through the summer stuff. Lots of summer teams out there and if they all post......look out.

A summer ball category would be better because we can name leagues, other teams they played, so we can see if 2 er's in a game is fantastic or against a team that hasn't won a game and the only way they could have even made it to base was via a walk...........just an example....

FYI.......the instructional league Slugs defeated the instructional league Wombats 26-25 in an all out hard fought war. The game was only delayed 3 times for bathroom breaks, but the breaks were not long because the players just dropped pants in left center instead of running to the bathroom...........

........from that inning on....Left Center was an automatic out......:jump:

Hope that makes sense.......
