The Breds and Greendevils make it to the top of the 5th before the rains come and "put things on ice". On April 26th at Bartlett Field this game will be picked up in the top of the 5th with 1 out and Breds catcher Kristen Schreiber up at the plate. Now to the details of what was played.

 

The Breds score 4 times in the bottom of the 1st, two coming on a triple of the bat of 3rd baseman Loren Zimmerman. they plate two more in the 3rd on an error and groundout. In the 3rd the Breds score 5 more times, including a Loren Zimmerman solo homerun. In the 5th, just 60 seconds before the rains fell, Loren Zimmerman "jacks" her 2nd homerun in as many at bats, a two run shot.

 

For the Greendevils, Sophomore Felicia Watts was "unstoppable". She leads off the 1st with a double that one hops the fence in left, in the 3rd she "jacks" a triple to the rightcenter gap that goes to the fence, and in the 4th with the bases loaded she sends a "missile" back up the middle for a two run single.

 

Also, Greendevils Sophomore 3rd baseman Samantha Scott looked like Brooks Robinson at "the hot corner" tonight. The 1st 4 outs recorded for Dayton were of the 5-3 variety and she had 2 more in the 3rd. Was also impressed with the play of Jr. SS Megan Workman who made back to back nice plays in the 4th. Jr. leftfielder Maelynn Lightfoot also made one hell of a nice grab on a sinking line drive off the bat of Kristen Schreiber. All the balls hit to the SS & 3rd baseman were all solid knocks and these girls really impressed me, fielding and throwing.

 

In all honesty when I watched them during warm-ups they didn't pass the eye test. However I was totally wrong, I was very impressed with this young Dayton team. Congrats to Coach Beth Fields-Hunt, she definitely is taking this group in the right direction. :ylsuper:

Where do you think Casey Kohls, Quillen-Highlands and Delaney-Dixie learned to play? All played with the girls of Dayton and coached by Steve Delaney when they were younger. Hours and hours of hitting and pitching and fast pitch he put in with these girls. He found leagues and pick up games for them. Glad to see it is paying off.

Not to mention the years of Karen Fuchs and Coach Fields setting the foundation several years ago.
