Murphy was huge for Clark Co. she had 25 points, 6 rebounds, and 3 steals. The Colonels star Asia Sims battled foul trouble most of the game, but finished with 19 points, and 9 boards. The Lady Cards hit their free throws down the stretch in a disappointing loss for the Lady Colonels.

The Lady Cardinals used a big outing from Boone County transfer Kathleen Murphy to give first-year coach Robbie Graham his first win as coach of the Lady Cardinals with a 65-49 victory over Bourbon County in the Kentucky Bank Shootout at Bourbon County High School.

Murphy scored 25 points to lead all scorers and added three steals for the Lady Cards.

“It feels great to get that first win, especially with it being a district game,” Murphy said. “Coach kept telling me to drive to the basket, and that’s exactly what I did and made my shots.”

Graham was equally pleased with the victory.

“It was a really good win,” Graham said. “Coach Byers does a tremendous job and we knew it was going to be a tough, hard-fought game and it was. It was a knock-down, drag-out game. Our goal is to try to get the No. 1 seed in the regular season in the district, and we couldn’t do it without tonight’s win. It was a really, tough, hard-fought win.”
