At the beginning of every football season, there are usually some preseason polls ranking the top teams in KY regardless of football class (Mike Fields from the LHL comes to mind). There is some thought that Trinity may take a step or two backward from where their program has been the last few years, since Trinity will be graduating what is probably the greatest football class in recent KY history. Also, St. X will have a brand new coaching staff, and it would not be surprising if the St. X football program took a year or two to adjust to the new coach and his philosophy. Both Bowling Green and Highlands are returning a great deal of talent and experience next year.

 

With all this in mind, what are the chances that a team other than Trinity or St. X gets ranked first in the state, regardless of football class, at the start of next season? Does anyone know when this last occurred?

Perhaps a few years ago when St. X beat Trinity in the final? Might one of the really good Boyle County teams under Chuck Smith have been ranked overall #1? Certainly one of the Michael Bush/Male teams would have been a contender.
