2nd region all-a at Dawson Springs??

Featured Replies

I was going through the brackets for the All-a region tournaments for the first four regions and saw where Dawson Springs is hosting the semifinals and finals for region 2. This has to be a misprint. You can get maybe 1,000 people in the gym. A Lyon/Webster girls finals would draw 1,200-1,500 people but a Trigg/UHA final would draw 2,500 people. Maybe even 3,000 if they are both playing well heading into the tournament. They played last year at Lyon County and packed their gym for a SF game.

Why would the region schools approve this, knowing that they split the gate profits evenly amongst the schools. If they charge $5 at the gate, 500 people can't get into the gym, they just lost $2,500. If 1,500 people can't get into the gym for the boys final, that's $7,500 lost right there. And we're just talking about the finals.

Each school is looking at losing more than a $1,000 because Dawson Springs and their tiny gym is hosting the regionals. That is, except for Dawson Springs, who will likely get to keep all of the concession money for the tournament.

If you've never been to Dawson Springs gym before, picture Hoosiers with bad lighting. Their gym goes about seven rows high on three sides. They have parking for about 100 cars at the gym. I hope the Dawson Springs shuttle bus is working on those nights for everyone else that has to park at the church a quarter mile away.

I would love to hear some insight as to how this could have happened. I sure hope the fine folks at Dawson Springs come to their senses and move the championship games to a neutral floor such as Madisonville or Hopkins Central. Either can seat 3,000 + people, which would mean more money for the schools, easy access for the fans, and will keep 1,000 + fans from getting turned away at the doors by the fire marshal.

This was mentioned in another thread about the All A Tournament. The only people who seem excited about this are the people from Dawson Springs, who likely won't have to worry about cramming the gym on championship night. In addition to what you mentioned above, Dawson could also put together a program and keep all of the advertising sales in addition to the concessions while the other schools only get the gate receipts, which will obviously be lower than past years because of the gym's capacity.

Who makes these decisions? Trigg Co. wiil bring the whole county .
