Somerset 2012/2013

Basketball season for 2012/2013 should provide another exciting year. What should we expect from Somerset ? Remember, please be constructive.

Somerset will be starting fresh in the 2012-13 season with new coach Jeff Cothron. He has been given the task to turn the program around after 4 straight years of losing seasons, no class A appearances, and no wins in post season play. He has generated a lot of excitement in the program thus far and the kids are working hard for next season. Somerset will have a lot of experience on the floor since they only lost 2 senior from last years team. Somerset returns Cam Cheuvront (Jr., PG), Ryan Dishman (Jr., SG), Matt Gordon (Sr., SG), Tyler Megargel (Sr., PF), and Ryan Weddle (Sr., C). Somerset will have some depth also, with 3 other players (Tyler Dishman, Braydon McWilliams, and Jakobi Gilmore) that could beat one of these 5 for a starting positon. Dishman and Cheuvront were the two leading scorers from last season averaging double digits and Weddle was the leading rebounder. This will be one of the better teams Somerset has had in a while and I see them as an eventual top 5 region team. Somerset should not be overlooked and could make some noise come post season. With Somerset, Pulaski Co., and Southwestern being strong teams this coming year, basketball in this area will be a lot of fun to watch!!

Best of luck to the Briar Jumpers. They have always had very nice teams participating in the State AAU tourneys.
