Bellarmine after Bullitt East star

Rusty-Troutman0512-235x300.jpgBellarmine University basketball coach Scott Davenport and his staff have tracked Bullitt East senior-to-be Rusty Troutman for several years.

The Knights have offered the star guard. Troutman said he “really likes the Knights” and “might want to stay in the state,” but he’s also getting some other interest.

The 6-foot-5 Troutman said Eastern Kentucky, West Point, Bucknell, Winthrop, Northern Kentucky and Ohio University have all started to show some interest.

“I don’t know right now,” he said in a recent interview. “I think distance will matter a little bit, but I don’t know. I probably won’t make a decision until (next season).”

Troutman along with Kentucky commitment Derek Willis and Trey Rakes are the leaders for the Chargers, a team that could be ranked No. 1 in the state’s preseason poll.

But that’s a long way off and Troutman said he still “has things to improve on.”

“I’ve spent every day in the weight room,” he said. “And I have to work on my defense. I have a tendency of standing up too much. I have to get lower and just get overall better.”
