St. Henry 5 Newport Central Catholic 4

Recommended Posts

Finally, the Breds play a solid game on offense and defense, even if it is in a losing effort. The Breds line-up is for the 2nd day in a row shakin' up with leading hitter (.491) and starting 1st baseman Rachel Hardesty out due to an illness. Mamee Salzer K's 10 but, gives up 9 hits to the Breds who fall one run short tonight.

The Breds start the game off with Sr. Meghan Millard taking the 1st pitch of the game to center, after a pop-out to Salzer Sr. Paige Immegart gets a single and the Breds are in buisness. Salzer K's the next 3 batters, but the Breds plate 2 on a couple of wild pitches and a passed ball on a dropped 3rd strike. St. Henry gets a two-out single from Salzer in the 1st, but she is left stranded. NewCath goes down 1-2-3 in the 2nd. Molly Dietz leads off the the St. Henry 2nd with a single and scores on Gabby Stewart's two out single.

The Newcath 3rd starts off with singles from Millard and Fr. Casey Kohls. After a strikeout of Immegart and a stolen base by Kohls, 1st baseman Taylor Burkart sends a 2-2 pitch into rightfield that scores both Millard and Kohls and the Breds take a 4-1 lead into the bottom of 3. St. Henry grabs the lead for good in the bottom of the frame. NewCath JV pitcher Sarah Neace was cruisin' until now, but the 1st 6 out of 7 batters get hits, 8 in total make it to the plate. One is out 7-6-4 trying to stretch a single to a double and another is cuaght stealing, however the damage is done and it's 5-4 the Cru. The Breds go 1-2-3 in the 4th, St. Henry gets a runner in the 4th on the only error of the night on a "missile" of the bat of Noelle Butts that hit off the glove of Fr. shortstop Michaela Ware. NewCath threatens in the 5th, after a Millard K, Kohls singles and steals 2nd, Immegart K's, then Burkart hits one between 3rd and short that Gabby Stewart gets dirty on, but can not get Burkart at 1st. It was a nice play by the 8th grade 3rd baseman to keep the ball from reaching the outfield because Kohls would have scored to even this one up. St. Henry goes down 1-2-3 in both the 5th and 6th innings and the Breds get two out base hits in both the 6th and 7th, but fall one run short.

For the Breds Millard, Kohls, Immegart, & Burkart all 2 for 4. For St. Henry the first 8 all had 1 hit each, with Salzer getting 2.

Both teams played a great game, just hope the Breds can continue to play like this. Good luck St. Henry in the All "A" this weekend.

St. Henry....5.9.0

NewCath.....4.9.1

I have been banging the St Henry band wagon all year, no disrespect to NC but doesn't look like St Henry will be a serious contender

St. Henry has 3 or 4 really nice players but drop off considerably after that. They could still contend with Conner, Ryle, Dixie, etc. in the 9th region but will have to play their best games, IMO.

Again LB with a very nice write up. It is much appreciated since no one seems to cover high school fastpitch much anymore. Great job!

It's a shame, these young ladies deserve better from the local media. They get treated like the "red-headed step child".
