Elkins' resiliency rings up honor

Raceland sophomore QB one of 12 to get award

ASHLAND — It’s an award not wished upon anyone, as it’s bestowed to those who have faced inordinate adversity.

But because of unparalleled character shown throughout each of these high school students’ situations, the honor carries with it an unmatched meaning.

Adam Elkins went through a tragedy unlike many have experienced. The Raceland sophomore lost his father shortly after the quarterback nearly led his Rams to a comeback victory at Pikeville on Sept. 2. They lost the game, 21-20, but that was quickly made forgettable.

I am so proud of Adam and how he has handled this situation.
