Useful outing for the Mustangs, albeit a 5-3 loss to Dixie Heights under the lights in Crestview Hills.

 

Senior Jesse Orth was the Brossart starter and losing pitcher, working three innings and giving up 4 runs. Sophomore Erik Rieger, on in relief, gave up an unearned run in two innings of work, and sophomore Connor Verst, who is rapidly becoming an accomplished relief man for the Mustangs pitched a perfect inning.

 

The Mustangs plated their three runs in the Brossart fouth when Senior Bobby Roderick hit a 2 rbi single with the bases loaded, and Trevor Bezold later scored on a wild pitch.

 

Unofficially, the Mustangs only had three hits on the night, a first inning double by Zach Fardo, Roderick's single, and a Tanner Norton base hit.

 

In the latter part of the game, Junior Tanner Norton executed one of the most amazing high school plays that I have ever seen. WIth a runner on first, the Brossart catcher badly overthrew the first baseman on a pickoff attempt. The baseball went deep into the rightfield corner where it was run down by Tanner Norton (the normal catcher) the rightfielder, who threw a one-bounce strike to nail the runner coming to third on a sure-thing play. It was totally awesome!!!! The throw, which was a missle, had to travel nearly 400 feet from release to catch.

 

The Dixie starter pitched a complete game. This was the second game of a double-header. Simon Kenton defeated the Colonels in the first game 8-6 (or 8-7).

 

The playing surface is as hard as a rock, lending to several fielding miscues by both teams. Other than that (and having to walk 5ks to go to the restroom) it is a wonderful baseball facility. Great Hamburgers too!!!

Last Friday I was also surprised how dry & hard the Dixie field was. Facility sure is nice, but playing surface could stand a little TLC.
