I came across this article from WLKY in Louisville and wanted to share: New season, new coach for Manual football | High School Playbook - WLKY Home "The first weeks of football practice at Manual under Scott Carmony have been a learning experience. He's learning about his players, and they're learning pretty much everything. "We tell the kids your job right now is to show up here every day with a great attitude ready to work. We have a lot to teach them. Everything is new to them," says Carmony. Carmony last coached at Butler High School in 2012. He's a defense-first guy, and wants a tough, run-oriented offense. Under previous Coach Oliver Lucas, the players at Manual platooned, playing exclusively offense or defense. Carmony is changing that, he wants the best players on the field as much as possible. "Without a doubt. They don't do any good sitting over there by me, so if they're good enough to earn that spot both ways, they're going to play both ways," he says. "A lot of us have always wanted to play both ways, but we never really got the opportunity. Now that a new coach has come in and given us an opportunity and its exciting to know that you can showcase your skills on the offensive and the defensive side of the ball," says Senior Bryce Cosby, who played defensive back last season. With guys learning both the new offense and the new defense, along with new terminology, the practices have not been easy. Carmony says the starters for this year's team will be determined in preseason practice, regardless of how much or little playing time guys got last year. "That's sort of the thing about coming in. Everything is new. We don't really know who started last year. We have some idea, but we don't have it down. We're really going to take it as it comes out here in practice, and whoever earns it and deserves it is going to get it, not based on what they've done the last two or three years," Carmony says. "He's definitely in the past couple of weeks pushed us to the limit, but that's what we need as a team. To be mentally tough for what he's preparing to do with us offensively and defensively that's the type of mindset you have to have," says Cosby. Last season, Manual finished with a 9-3 record, and lost in the second round of the playoffs to eventual state champion Male. The Crimsons begin the season Friday, August 19 against Central."
