  1. West Jessamine could have easily won the region title last year, they were slow getting started in the title game and that cost them more than anything in my opinion.

Slow getting started? They were up 6-0 after 4 innings, before Somerset blew it open with 10 run inning. I like Somerset, Rock, West and Mercer should be the favorites.:thumb:

  2. Congratulations to Belfry an awesome team and good luck in the Region and state. I agree TigerPride that Cobb said some things that he should not have said, both about the kid and his academics "that he did mention by name several times" and what he said about Chase Hall prior to last season. It is simple you cannot prepare for a team like Belfry playing 3 good teams a year. The schedule will build a resume for the coach, but will not win championships.

  3. SHS 24

    Belfry 21

Somerset seems to be healthy and have great skilled position players, their run defense seems suspect but I am sure that they will be ready to play. I heard that Belfry is going to Somerset Thursday night instead of making that trip on Friday. It sounds like a great idea. Rock's done and I need the Jumpers to move on.:flame:

  4. I heard from Coach Bussell that Perkins would be fine and he said that Somerset is sodding the infield and foul lines so that they do not run into the same problems that football had. He also told me that the baseball team is raising the money to do it themselves and that the school is not helping at all. That is a real suprise. Football is king I guess.

  5. The 1st real test for the jumpers in a while. We will see if their weak district schedule has prepared them for a tough Corbin squad. I think that their district schedule allows them to come into games like this and the postseason much healthier than most everyone else. So I think that a Healthy Jumper team beats the Redhounds in a barnburner.

  6.

It gets sooooooooooooooo ooooooold. Give the Jumpers their due. They are a small school that plays pretty good football, end of discussion on that.

Now Corbin is so good that they'll handle John Cole without any problem by doubling up on him. Somerset doesn't have anybody else that can play. They have no defense, no special teams and they play a bunch of nobodies. Corbin, just bring the JVs because your district is so good and you went through them without a glitch. I feel sorry for Somerset. I heard that they aren't practicing this week because they know they don't have a chance.:D

    :

:devil:Take it easy on the Jumpers Maroonmadness. I saw your game with the Jumpers and it seemed that several of the jumpers players played well against you. I know that you guys finally got the win, but to say that they have no other players is MOROONIC or is it MORONIC I get the 2 mixed up? I am sure that the Jumpers will bring their A Game and whether they can overcome a VERY good Corbin squad will be seen on Friday, but if you don't straighten up I may call the Patriots down to teach you a lesson. Go Rock, Go SHS and GO PC. Too bad about SWHS thought they would be better than that.

  7. Cole is a great high school player. Probably one of the best receivers to play the high school game. He will never play at Vandy. This is the SEC not district football.

You ar:flame:e crazy!!!I have seen John Cole in person at the Correll Bowl and watched him play hard and he is an outsatnding baseball player to boot. HE WILL BE AN IMPACT PLAYER AT VANDY. HAVE YOU EVER SEEN COLE PLAY?:flame:

  8. You must not coach. If you did you would have a clue on the issue of hording. Sorry....you're wrong on this one.

I was a coach at a 3A school and can tell you that in a typical year the football team graduated 15-20 seniors and the baseball team 5-6 each season. The football coach would have them from the day Junior High Football ended until they graduated. I will start a post on the subject later today.

  9. I just read the article and see that Coach Stevens will be staying on as an assistant. This is a bad idea. Too many chiefs not enough indians. I see that they only siut up 25 players, that in and of itself speaks volumes about the coaching staff and state of the program. West is a large school and there has to be a reason that players are not coming out. A change at the top may inspire some kids to come out and help next season. Winning breeds excitement and interest in the program. I know Coach Hamilton and he is a great person and will do what is best for the program and the players. They probably will not have a successful season this year, but Coach Hamilton will find someone to bring that football program up. That is just my opinion. On the other issue about animosity between Football coaches and baseball coaches I believe that that comes from Football needing the players year round and taking offense to any player that chooses to play Summer baseball. Football coaches in general ask their players to lift weights and condition for 41 weeks to play a 10 week schedule. If anyone is hording athletes in the state of Kentucky it is Football.:flame:

  10. Jeremy Brown has resigned as the SL head coach? Does Keith Gilbert, the assistant coach at SL who was a former head coach at North Laurel and just joined the staff last year when an additional assistant coach position was created get the nod? Should be interested.

Good luck to Jeremy in his new business opportunity he left for! Good guy and I hope it works out well for him!

What business opportunity did he leave for? I like Jeremy. Harris will probably be the next coach and he will do a great job.:thumb:

  11. Somerset and Mercer have to be the favorites. They both have a lot of talent returning. The next five or six teams are all about the same. But who can be for sure, the best team with the most talent doesn't always win in baseball.

What about my Rockets they proved that they can beat Somerset by winning the District tournament. We will have Smith and Tanner Perkins back. I think Somerset has the best squad, but our guys are more than capable. I just heard last week that JD Bussell may be leaving us. I hope that this is not true.

  12. I am a supporter of all the local schools, so being that I do not agree with that every time SHS gets assigned to a district that may have more than one loss they some how get out of it to play "closer teams". I do not believe that SW and PC people are taking shots but just pronouncing there dis appreciation with this, year in and year out. I also do not believe it's taking shots if Somerset keeps setting themselves up for it. I believe 100% in my heart that Jay Cobb is running the program into the ground. There has been a lot of good coaches, and whole lot of good players through the Somerset program that put there blood sweat and tears into building a great program built upon pride and tradition. I know for me and many others that pride and tradition is in question with Cobb and the helm!

I think Coach Cobb is a great coach. The people that I have talked to say that the kids love playing for him and he is a proven winner. I disagree that he is hurting the program. 2 consecutive Region championships should tell everyone what he is doing something right. I understand some of the posters comments about his desire to change Districts when it suits him. His last District was abysmal and noone talked about travel and Geography then, but with the new allignment another inferior District was created in 3A and SHS then chose to PETITION the KHSAA due to travel. Coach Cobb either picks these sorry Districts or is the luckiest man in the world, according to our head football coach Cobb waited to see the projected District and then pertitioned to be addes to it. I do not believe that there is anything wrong with doing that, but it would be great if SHS would just come out and sat that travel really had nothing to do with it and that the real reason was for WINS. NOW BACK TO THE REAL TOPIC SOMERSET 50 - TAYLOR CO. 14:flame:

  13. :argue:

"Trying" to let fans know that there is no exit on the visitors side of the track doesn't make it any less inconvenient. Somerset's football program might need to think about getting it's act together. This isn't the first issue that they've had this year.
Maybe Somerset can build 2 field while they are building the Visitors side exit. I was at the Bowl and sat on the Visiting sideline it is no different than any other stadium. While PC is handing out advice for atletic programs here is one for them. THE NEXT TIME YOU GUYS GET THE DISTRICT BASKETBALL TOURNAMENT HAVE MORE THAN 1 DOOR OPEN. I stood in line for40 minutes to get in to the game. SHS is much better ran than PC.
  14. HOLD THE PRESSES!! I change my vote!! I attended the Correll Bowl this past Friday and was told that John Cole Somerset's best baseball player has committed to Vanderbilt to play Football and will not be playing baseball this season. If this is true Somerset falls from favorite to repeat to above average and middle of the pack. Let me know if anyone else has heard this or can confirm this. I am sure that Grundy will do a little begging on this one. I have confirmed that he has committed to Vandy, but what about the baseball season.

  15. The only valid points that Hines made was that Cobb downplayed the game for SHS and elevated what it meant to the Maroons. This game will always mean alot to everyone in Pulaski County.(I will miss the Rock game in 2009 just to see the rematch.) The other point is that SHS has had and continues to have 1 if not the weakest District and Region schedules in any Class over the past 6 years.

  16. I just spoke to an SHS parent and he said that neither team had post game meals due to the time that the game ended. Note: To PC and SWHS if you do not like the field we will volunteer to play in your slot every season. We travel well and have a great football tradition. You guys come up with your Bowl and we will come there also. If we make a penny out of the gate receipts that is 1 penny more than we usually get for road games.

  17. I can see this. I do feel that Somerset overlooked the Maroons a little bit. I don't think Cobb was trying to take a slap a Pulaski when he said it. After all Pulaski was coming off of consecutive 2-9 seasons while Somerset was coming off 21 wins and consecutive State-Semifinal appearances and was ranked in 3A. The expectations were much higher at Somerset than Pulaski. Should Somerset have placed more emphasis on the game--probably but a lot of what Hines said was just classless. Somerset only has 2 lockerrooms at the field. Hines has known this forever--let's be realistic. Do you think he would have been happy changing over at the middle school or baseball lockerroom and then having to walk his team across the parking lot and then around the field? I think we both know the answer to that. Did he even ask for a different changing facility or is just using that as another opportunity to gripe? The field was not in the shape that it should have been in to play the games. However, it was guaranteed by the firm that seeded it that it would be. Some unforseen circumstances led to its condition--however it was not unsafe--just unsightly. I don't know the full story on why the team wasn't fed after the game or whether Somerset was indeed fed after the game but I'm sure we will soon. Either way if I were a coach whose team had been out there since 7pm in that heat and after the lightning delay at 245am I would rather my team be getting home anyway. These are just classless statements from a coach I have lost all respect for. Using them to try and get to host a bowl or goading a team into playing makes them even worse.

With all due respect AJG that was exactly what he did whether he meant to or not. If I were Pulaski that is exactly how I would have taken, but I hope that I would not have responded with the silliness that Coach Panama Jack did. I doubt that SHS will be taking any Football advice from a team that has won 4 games in the last 2 years. I am happy for PC because as an observer I thought their players played harder and were more prepared than SHS and they deserved to win, but to come out on Wednesday and berate the tournament is ABSOLUTELY CLASSLESS.

  18. It looks like Coach Hines is really upset about the comment made by SHS coach saying that this game was the SUPER BOWL for Pulski kids and Johnny is just protecting his players EARNED right to feel happy about it. I know Coach Cobb well and I am sure he regretted saying that. I think the locker room situation should have been addressed before the game and not this week. It would be absurd to ask our boys(Rock) to rush out of the lockerrom after a hard fought victory in 100 degree heat. I am sure if Hines had complained this loudly he would have been in the baseball lockerrom or somewhere else. but SHS cannot just invent space to allow all 4 teams to change. The victory for PC was huge and I feel that Johnny's bellaching has tarnished it a little. My advice for Somerset is to take the high road it seems that in football and the egos that are spilling out that road is definitely less traveled.:flame:
