  1. We were standing on the sideline down at Whitley County a few years back when he lit up his D-line during a time out. When he yelled, I could feel it as well as hear it, and those kids all backed up a step. I think he's quiet most of the time, but when he goes off, he makes the most of it.

I remember that rant well. About halfway through, his headset slipped off and was hanging below his knees, and he didn't miss a beat! The next play was a run, which was stuffed, and all eleven on defense were there. No one wanted to be the guy who wasn't in on the play.

  2. 8 hours from now Highlands fans will disappear! :D

That's funny stuff there. Of course, you might just be absent around that time too. I can hear the excuse now......"I wasn't able to get on BGP cause I had this big ole batch of crow in the oven to tend to, and I had to baste it every couple minutes. No time to talk smack while fixin dinner. "

Im I sure you have a great recipe for it already, but I hear it tastes better when baked over low heat. Set your oven to 350 degrees.:angrybird1:

  3. That is the only type of experience that matters. Just saying theyhave more espereicne because they watched mroe games is stupid.

    Wow! A little cranky today?

No, I didn't claim that watching more film was what contributed to the players getting better, but the overall preparation and practice for another opponent. Highlands players are fortunate in that their coaches do a phenomenal job preparing them for every game, so naturally, preparing for 15 a season is an advantage.

But, I'm sure that point will be lost on you, so we can just agree to disagree, and you can spread your unique blend of cheer elsewhere.:D

  4. I think that's wrong. As far as game experience if the players played in every game since they were sophomores that would be closer to 45 games including playoff games. The fact that Highlands platoons and mostly upperclassman play I doubt very many seniors have played in a lot of games since their sophomore years except when running clocks were in play.

They don't have that much of an advantage over other teams when it comes to experience, maybe because the way Dale runs the program, players from other tams they face in the playoffs may actually have more games under their belts where they actually saw a lot of playing time.

If you look at it from the standpoint of strictly playing experience in games, they may not have any more than their opponents.

Game planning and preparation over those 60 games is another facet of the difference. Highlands coaches do a fantastic job preparing the game plan each week, so 60 weeks of preparation is a significant difference.

  5. Sounds like the future of Highlands football is not going to be good! :D

The 2007 HHS Freshman football team had the opportunity to play SK twice at their place, and lost both games to a really good football team. Following the second game, which was for the NKY freshman championship that year, Coach Mueller talked to the birds on the field. His first comment was to tell the team what they already knew, that they had lost to a very good freshman football team. Then he said something I will never forget; "you guys are going to have the opportunity to do some great things in the coming years as Highlands football players." And he was right. The players who played all four years got to prepare for and play in 60 football games throughout their career, and were the first class at Highlands to earn 4 state championship rings. I know you were trying to be sarcastic or funny, or maybe even just spiteful, but you couldn't possibly be more wrong in your assessment. Congratulations to SK on the big win. Let's plan to get back together in three and a half years and look at the whole picture.

  6. You left out a huge reason why HHS can platoon and most Boone County schools can't. It's something I've brought up time and time again yet has been widely ignored by everyone on this topic. Campbell and Kenton Counties have open enrollment, Boone does not and whether you want to admit it or not, that is a HUGE advantage in getting athletes at one school over others in the same county. Boone including Walton Verona have 5 public High Schools with closed enrollment. That makes a huge impact.

You'll have to forgive me for being dense, but what does open enrollment have to do with developing your players so you have enough to only play on one side of the ball? I get it that Boone County schools have imposed a structure that restricts players (and students for that matter) from going to their preferred school, but my point was that no matter who the players are that are on your team now and will be until they graduate, you should develop them to be better football players. Develop enough of them between the freshman and senior years and you've got the makings of a team that only plays one way.

  7. I don't think there is one person who will say platooning isn't the way to go if you can go that route. But what everyone seems to forget is you have to have the athletes to platoon. You can't just throw anyone out there simply because you have the number of players to platoon, you actually have to have players that can play the game. It's not rocket science.

Highlands has the athletes to platoon, does that mean Bellevue does simply because they have 40 players on their roster?

You are right as to the bolded part above. A good question to ask next is why Highlands has the athletes to platoon. A lot goes into having the athletes to the level where the high school coaches have the ability to play players only one way, from the structure and rules of the FTJFL to the offseason conditioning, to spring football and so on. Lastly, the coaching staff has to make a commitment to getting to the point where their players only play on one side of the ball, and that can be a daunting challenge if you have a handful of really stud players that you can't envision only playing one way. So, you are right that you can't just throw anyone out there simply because of numbers, but you can put a process in place to develop all the players you have so that you can put more of them on the field knowing that they are capable of doing their job.

  8. LOL, who is bashing? That's a classic comeback to anything not stroking the egos of the "Christian" neighbors in ft Thomas. Your probably one of those people driving around with the "highland alumni" sticker on your bumper......all I do is laugh when I see those. So sad.....

You must be laughing a lot, then. BTW - not that you care, or would have noticed the difference, but it is Highlands, with the "s" at the end.

  9. Imagine that, HHS fans and dale having an issue with someone that has anything negative, true or not, to say about the program. SHOCKER!!!!

Gamble, whether for selfish reasons or not, does a great job for these local kids. The exposure and big game experience they get, is unmatched for a regular season game. The kids love it.

Take a look in the mirror, none of you rock throwers do your jobs for totally unselfish reasons????

Funny how you seem more than willing to supply plenty of the negative views on a wide range of topics regarding Highlands' program.

  10. I never said the collinsworth kid wasn't a good football player, I simply said he was not major D1 talent. I simply said, if his last name was smith, he doesn't end up at Norte dame. I watched the kid play and saw game film. I personally feel he wasn't as good a football player as Brady hightchew, but it is what it is. Being a cpl inches taller and having Chris collinsworth as your dad helps a ton. Now, with that being said, that doesn't mean he can't become a solid player for Norte dame as most kids will get bigger, faster, stronger in their first couple of years in college.

I really don't know how much more informed I need to be.

Here's a question, did the HHS coaching staff get exposed in the all star game....lol

    That's probably for another thread...

    .

How so? Did HHS coach the all star East team this year?
  11. I agree with everything you say except for the last part. Colleges coaches will put a tremendous amount of stock in whether or not kids get along with their high school coaches. There are way too many kids out there for them to waste time with a bad one. They won't do it.[/QUOTE]

Are you absolutely sure about the bolded point above? I seem to recall a case not too long ago of a player in N KY with a history of alleged bad decisions who was recruited by a top tier DI program. The topic was discussed extensively on this board.:idunno:

  12. I don't have an answer to your question because to tell you the truth I don't concern myself with such things. I love high school sports and get more thrill out of a little known school who doesn't have advantages of some other schools that has a big year. I always tend to get more excited over the underdog doing the unthinkable than a heavyweight winning all the time.

But that's just me. That's why i think this thread is funny. For anyone to worry about the possibility of a Highlands losing a player down the road is kind of funny. If any kid who is good enough to play for Highlands as an example, would pick another school won't happen the majority of the time. The one's that might go elsewhere are players who mmay not get playing time on a team like Highlands and may go elsewhere just so thhey can play (just using HHS as an example, don't read too much into it). If that happens I really don't think Highlands will lose anything. Plus the fact we're talking about pee wee football makes it even funnier to me.

Hey I don't know the whole situation, but I do find it amusing. I guess what I'm saying is who really cares? Do you have any idea how many players that grew up andd played in Boone County's pee wee league went to play for high schools outside oof Boone County? The answer is a lot, it's no big deal.

Please re-read the posts throughout the thread. None of the posters who are "known" HHS fans and supporters of the FTJFL mentioned anything about losing a player to this new team and league. None. The biggest complaint was about the utilization of a communication method by the schools for this new venture, when no other organizations not affiliated with the schools have ever had access to. That's all.

As to the second bolded part, regarding allegiance from pee wee teams to high school, all I can say is thanks for opening that up again for a jolmstead rant.

  13. Oh that brings back memories of that Freak show out in Independence.

"Highlands fans, sit down and shut up" over the PA. Funniest thing I have ever heard at a Football game. :thumb:

Kevin would be my first choice for sure, but hey, I have no pull in Ft Thomas...Just sayin

Best part of that episode happened when the SK varsity head coach looked up to the press box and told the PA announcer to shut up.

  14. Much to the dismay of Will Bardo' date=' it was AC's show in 09' except in 09' when Dale used AC as a decoy to pave the way for the Bardo showing.[/quote']

As to the bolded, how can you make such an outlandish statement? Will was (and still is) the consumate teammate, and wanted success for the team, regardless how it was attained. To suggest otherwise is disrespectful.

  15. McCoy was a much better passer IMO than Bardo. Will had speed and holes you could drive a semi through' date=' but [b']his short to mid range passing prowess was suspect[/b]. Mostly due to the fact that they ran the ball mostly, but McCoy could flat out drill a ball to his receiver insie of 30yds. He was probably 90+% accurate on those passes all year. McCoy's weakness was the deep ball. If you gave McCoy the holes Bardo had, McCoy would be Mr. Football. Put that in your pipe and smoke it.

As to the bolded above, I'm not sure I agree with you. I agree that the birds ran the ball a lot, but maybe that was due to the RB, not Will's arm. I can't ever recall reading a post questioning his accuracy, although I have to admit I was more concerned with the prolific O Line that was opening the gaping holes for the run game.

  16. I'm interested to hear your thoughts on open enrollment. I think if "ALL" Districts in the state of Kentucky participated in open enrollment that aloud students to attend whichever school they wanted within their district, maybe we would not see the dominance in sports by the same teams. There would be a few more to compete against them. IMO, it's unfair that some of your powerhouse schools are benefiting from this and others aren't.

There is nothing that I am aware of to prevent any school district to decide they will accept students outside their boundaries. So, all you need to do is convince them (at least the ones you support) to accept tuition students, and your school/team will be set and can finally compete at a higher level.
