  1. In my opinion, Georgetown has a great recruiting class, and many of the quality players they got were from Kentucky. I was very pleased with their list of recruits. And, they may still be getting one more before it is over.

I agree, I think it's an awesome class too. I know of one or two kids they're still going after. KY kids! Man, is it football season yet!!! Can't wait to watch these young men.

  2. He played at Covington Catholic. I think he played multiple positions, but was primarily a running back on the offensive side of things.

Thanks, sounds like an awesome player. Can't wait to watch him next year along with all the kids from X, Trinity, Raceland, Belfry, Ashland. G-town does a great job of getting KY kids with OH mixed in. Very excited!

  3. :thumb: I think that both Logan and Carver made a great decision. I just don't get how some can think that NAIA schools are somewhat of a put down. G-Town along with others is a GREAT academic school and after all that is what it is all about. As for football, the G-Town program is great, a consistent playoff contender and I believe owner of three National Titles! As for Carver, I know through a very good source that the academics, pre med and pharmasutical program that he is going into was a if not THE deciding factor.

Oldrambler, once again I agree with you. Kids have a lot of different options in front of them but need to make the one that "feels best" to them. I know my son had oppotunities in the big east, conf usa, sun belt, big ten, & even 1AA. I was surprised (pleasantly) when he chose Georgetown. He said it offered the balance of a great education, successful football program, & personal touch he was looking for. I was happy despite him picking them over my beloved hoosiers! (of course he wanted to win)

  4. The only reason that ol' Ducky is a supporter of the Muskies is beause he sees a possible position on another coaching staff that Mr. Dodd may be putting together it seems. I may no longer be a part of my old school's program, but I still supoport the kids who are there. Maybe not the current staff or administrators, but Ducky I think it would be hard to turn your feelings off so fast for the players.

I don't agree with Ducky's support of Dodd, however, I can tell you he is a good & caring man. His feelings for the kids has nothing to with him choosing to put on other colors. He's always been good to the kids. Again, IMO Dodd was not good for Russell or the Kids. He knows alot about basketball. At times is very good to the kids. However, IMO he played mindgames with kids who weren't old enough to deal with it. He is a solid college basketball coach. IMO he is not BEST suited fo the HS level.

  5. Raceland may not be a dream job but for the most part some things that they have for a coach are the support of the administration, faculty, alumni and the community along with good kids that will work their butts off for a coach

These things combined with the best facility anywhere around this area to work and coach in imo add up to a pretty good job. There may be better coaching jobs around but I can certainly look around and not too far away and see a lot worse places ;).

Raceland is a very nice setup. It maynot be everyones dream job, but to others it may be. To each their own. That's what makes this world so interesting to live in.:ylsuper:

  6. I don't know if Coach Floyd would want to go anywhere or not. Any coach may make a

decision to leave the place that he is at. That is a given and certainly has happened everywhere at one time or another.

I will say that it would shock me if he would go to GCHS especially due to the administration problems down there, or Russell who now seems to be going along the same lines as GCHS. They (Russell) have some catching up to do though but it looks like that they now have start on it. Is a bad situation when a very few plot against and oust a person that they are said to support :sssh: but it sees that is what is happening here.

Might be a good idea for any coach that goes there to have a "knife proof" vest to wear on their back, skin tougher than leather and another job lined up in a couple of years. :D

JMO and I won't argue or post anymore about it on this thread.

Good luck to Russell on naming a new coach.

While I respect your opinion, I have to disagree. The amdinistration did everything they could do to support Dodd. He alienated himself by his actions with his player and parents. Russell supports their coaches well and do not want a revolving door type situation. They'll find the right person. I'm not sure Kidwell is the man, but I'm not convinced that he is not. I do however, have the utmost confidence in Sam Sparks. He'll get it right.

  7. :thumb: 98 years old and still no doubt has forgotten more about basketball than anyone on this board will ever know. Anyone else for that matter, Adolph Rupp or Hank Iba would be the only ones of a very, very few imo that is comparable and they are dead so that leaves Wooden. :D

Can anyone provide a link that John Wooden will be the boys basketball coach at Russell for the 08-09" season?

I 100% agree that Coach Dodd did a fine job with the team that he had at Russell this season, it's always a "what have you done for me lately" scenerio in coaching.

While you are right in your observation, things go a little deeper than than at Russell.:thumb:

  8. I must have missed him. Did he start? Was he injured?

Seth attended St X 1/2 his Freshman year, played on the Russell State Runner-up team his Sophomore year (4th on the team in tackles as a DT, and moved back to St X when I got re-transferred to Louisville. He played every two series rotating with the senior in front of him. He played on the defensive side of the ball mostly at Russell and when he was on the offensive side, they ran a wing-T system. Last year was an adjustment time for him. Since they had a good RT who had put in his dues, they could afford to bring Seth on more slowly. He's really improving rapidly.

  9. While you are certainly entitled to your opinion, you are wrong.;)

A select group of parents along with one adminis-traitor and their friends have tried to undermine the basketball program since Coach Dodd's first two years at Russell. As I have stated before, it's not the X and O or the Jimmy and Joe it is the parents of Little Hiram and Elmer that think they should play ahead of the Jimmys and Joes that are part of the problem.;) With the experience this group of Sophs gained this year they should be much better. This along with a weaker schedule that the AD has secured for the new coach should bring success.

It was a wonderful group of kids this year and I believe every player and parent with the exception of one supported and appreciated Coach Dodd and his Staff. Thank you!!!:thumb:

Ducky you too are entitleted to your opinion. I do not think you have much of a leg to stand on saying that I'm wrong. I can make a pretty strong case of parents from all grade levels that did not support Dodd, not because of playing time but because of the way he played mind games with the kids. A philosophy that carried down to his JV coach. I had two sons in the program. One very good, one that was, at best, average. The JV coach & Dodd took all the excitement/love that they had for the game a trampled it in a few short months during their freshman year. I actually had to make my oldest play his sophomore year. Had we stayed. He was not going to play his junior year because of the two previously mentioned coaches.

I do agree. The kids learned a lot this year the hard way. I don't wish Dodd any ill will. I hope he goes on and does well. I just hope his ego get in check and hope he learns that he's not coaching at the college level (assuming he goes to another HS). Kids don't respond to complete negativity. You have to build kids up AND teach them the game. Perry Yates understood that. Dale Henry understood that. I believe Kidwell understands that. I think the AD at Russell understands that and will make the selection that is best for Russell. I have the utmost respect for Sam Sparks. He is a class act.

The most important thing is that I do Love the Russell Program and the people, players, & entire community. I hope they can rebuild the program to where it once was.

  10. No way Coach Humphrey will leave GRC. He has a chance to go to State for the next 3 years. I talked to him just last week and he said that he wanted his girls to graduate from GRC. He also has great job security here...at Russell, it dosn't seem to matter what you have done, the job security isn't there.

As another poster posted I am surpised that Perry Yates name hasn't been mention more.

A person would have great job security at Russell as long as he/she deserved it. Obviously, you can make your own conclusion about Dodd.

  11. [/color]

Ferguson and Maybery did play last year, Bender did not come out, Kyle Skaggs was in the 6th grade and everyone else played freshman ball.;) Coach would have to go 14-20 deep to get to them.

Dodd has had two year-three years to develop kidds. Problem was that a certain JV coach let his ego get the better of himself and kept running kids off. I watched during those years shaking my head as I watched player after player NOT be developed. Then when parents tried to approach the staff, ego gots in the way. Coach Dodd and his JV coach needed to be out of there years ago. All I can say right now is Amen!
