  1. Wondering who are some of the better parochial teams are this year in the 7th and 8th grade? Who will complete for the diocesan championship this year.

If my memory is correct, St. Joe (Cold Spring) won the 7th grade division last year. Are they favored to repeat?

Who is looking good so far in the 7th?

    Any stand out players?

  2. I believe it will be Maile.

McDonald can blame parental interferrence, but her "sunny disposition" probably created as many issues as any other outside influence.

Let me make sure I understand. The lady coaches for over 10 years and turns an "A" program into a contender year and year out (winning regionals) and all of a sudden its because of her "sunny disposition"?

Sounds like you thought your daughter deserved more playing time?

Coach McDonald just ran into a bad class of parents with loud mouths.

  3. I never knew the Wolfpack were moved, however, the Legends entering as a D2 team is quite funny. Good luck this weekend Rainman!

Why would you find it funny? Wasn't you who said its up to the coaches and parents to make the decision whether to play D1 or D2?

  4. He won't be playing for the Knights from my understanding. He currently is playing with the 7th grade Wolfpack. If he plays for anyone at nationals(big if), he would play for the Ville. The Knights have no shot!

So, he is playing with kids his own age? How is he doing for the 7th grade Wolfpack?

  5. In reading this thread, I wanted to point out some inconsistencies.

    1) The U12 Nky Wolfpack hasn't taken a kid from "tryouts" in the past 2 years. The 2 kids that were added were asked to play after seeing them play or hearing about them from other individuals.

    2) The KY Elite mentioned by southernkyhoops and the Omega team both stated in the AAU thread earlier this season that they would be playing D1....what happened?

    3) The U12 NKY Wolfpack get its kids from a similar radius as Omega, maybe a smaller area except for one kid who should be playing with Omega.

Most of the individuals, except for southernky, who are talking negatively of the decision by the U12 Wolfpack coach's decision, have never stepped foot into a national tournament. Therefore, you are very unfamiliar with the talent level within these 2 divisions.

Most Division 1 teams get their players from across the state and utilize their 3 cross boundary exemptions.

There is NO way a Northern KY All star team could be considered as a Division 1 caliber team. That's not to say that no team from NKY should play D1, it just doesn't fit the definition of one. There have been some that have been successful at the state and national level. The Georgetown Thunder was a team that drew it's kids from a small area and competed on the D1 level. They are the exception to the rule.

For all you naysayers, D1 and D2 comes down to one thing......The parents and coaches make the decision and the team follows the decision on which division to compete. As I've said before, :deadhorse:too many people try to make AAU something it's not. AAU is an organization that allows for youth and adults to compete. They are not the sports police - They provide an opportunity...that's it!

Good luck to all the teams that are playing this weekend. GO PACK!

First, I thought only the kids competed? I thought the adults were suppose watch and support their children. Hmm....

You can use the definitions above as a guideline to help determine the right division to play in, however it is just that, a guideline. It's my opinion the coach should know his/her team and what division they are best suited to complete in.

I have little to no information about Ky Elite or Omega, however, all year I have read threads on how great Wolfpack is and how they got the 3 best players in the state (Stanley, Moeves, and Robinson) and how they beat all the teams they play and then when the chips are on the line, they play D2. Makes no sense to me.

Bottom line is most on this site have seen Wolfpack and all agree they are a D1 Kentucky State team. Take this a compliment!!!!

Why try to win D2 when you have the horses to challange for the D1 title?

  6. If they go D2 they need to win it and not get wore out like the 11/u Wolfpack. The 11/u Wolfpack won the state last year and then decided to play D2 again and got crushed in the finals. I guess their entire season seems ruined, where a 3rd place finish in D1 would have been an improvement over last season and the kids would have felt a sense of accomplishment. If you are going to take a D1 team to D2 you had better win!

The coach of the Wolfpack is cheating his kids!!!! They are a D1 team. I would much rather compete at the D1 level versus winning D2. JOKE!!!!

  7. Generation Next, Jackson County Cavs, and N. Laurel Elite. They all had to many grade exception players to compete in sanctioned AAU tournaments.

Yes NKY Wildcats were the only team to sign up for D1 so it was all one tournament and I thought it worked out well.

    Makes Sense!!!! Congrats Wildcats!!!!!!

  8. All NKY Finals and the NKY Wildcats winning, they were the team to beat all year long. With the other teams not being able to play this weekend it left it wideopen for them to repeat.

I assume this was the D2 division? If so, why if they won last year, did they not move up to D1?

  9. I'm not real thrilled with the teams not being able to get inside the arena to practice. There will be an adjustment in shooting into a basket where there isn't much of a backdrop. An hour shoot around, I don't care when it is would help.

Big Deal. All teams are held to the same rule. It's not like one team is getting left out or one team gets to practice. Good shooters will adjust.

  10. This was the best that Omega has played this year. They are peaking at the right time with state only 3 weeks away. I heard a rumor that there are 45 teams signed up for U11 state already. That will be a fun weekend at KBA.

Is there a website or someway you can find out how many teams are already signed up?

  11. Stanley is very good but he plays with the 2 best guards in N. KY....Moeves and Robinson. The 3 players that make that team go are Stanley, Moeves and Robinson.

Omega can't handle Stanley nor the full court pressure....guards cough it up too much.

I agree Omega can't handle Stanley, however you are reaching with Moeves.....

  12. Hoge is playing with a team called the Nuggets but I don't think it's the DC Nuggets. I thought DC was Derby City out of Lville.

I believe Omega Flight played them earlier in the year and beat them in one of the BCI's. If my contacts are correct, this was before Hoge joined the Omega team.

Wolfpack should handle DC Nuggets as long as Stanley stays out of foul trouble. Without Stanley, Wolfpack is an average team at best. Stanley is the real deal and is no doubt one of the best in the state. Just curious, does anyone know if he is an age exception?

  13. I am with you on this one. I am an outsider and don't know the situation. It is great that so many people think so high of his coaching abilities. I have to say though, if he was so great, then why did they let him go? It had to be for some reason. Just like when a parent yells at the coach for not playing their "all star" kid. Because we all know coaches LOVE to sit their best players on the bench. Things aren't always what they seem!

Good luck to Brossart. If this is a "crossroads" as some one posted, I hope they find the right person for the players!

Outside of Ray Kues, who would be qualified, available candidates that might be considered?

  14. Thanks for your help. Actually Omega said he wanted to do the same thing and then after more thought they both decided not to merge. Rumors aren't always true, but no big deal. The point about 3 different high schools was to compare to Wolfpack which will send players to 3 or 4 different high schools.

So in the grand scheme of things not much different between the two teams. Both teams play M2M defense, both teams have good coaches and players. Now it just comes down to who wins when they play. Let the games happen and don't make excuses if one or the other loses. That's my frustration with posters on here who talk a big game and then when their team loses they make excuses.

One lesson that needs to relayed to all children in sports - Don't make excuses! Take responsibility for what happens and make yourself better.

So, I have a question. Who is making excuses? Are you implying Omega is making excuses for losing to the Wolfpack in the Georgetown Tournament? Just curious, who wound up winning the tournament?

  15. CC Purple got embarrassed at home by Holmes tonight. The only game that was close was 6th grade. 7th grade might have scored 10 points and 8th grade barely scored 20. 7th grade lost by 30+ and 8th grade lost by 20.

It will be a quick out in the league tournament if these boys don't decide to play.

Is this Holmes or Two Rivers?

  16. I know all of the players on Omega and most of the parents and this is not a correct statement. If it were all the kids would be going to the same high school instead of potenially 3 different ones. I'm pretty sure Omega is together to win AAU tournaments, otherwise, why the pat on the back for winning a league that had no competition for them? Just curious????

What high school will they go to?

I think you can put together a team for the purpose of making them better for the next level and still have goals of winning tournaments. What AAU team does not want to win tournaments?

Is it Omega's fault there was no competition in their league? Why did the Wolfpack not play in this league?

Finally, I agree with 3breds2b. If a team's goal was to win D1 State, they would be pulling players together from miles away and not just locally. I heard a rumor the Wolfpack's coach contacted Omega before the start of the year about making one team and Omega said No Thanks. From what I read sounds like a good group of local kids playing real good basketball together. So what if they go to 3 different high schools.

  17. All good teams. Many played in the Scott County tournament a few weeks ago. Omega won the tournament but the Wolfpack was probably the best team there. They pulled out of the tournament on the last day. Before pulling out they beat Omega, Central KY Tigers, and the Scott County Wolfpack in pool play. The Ville may be the team to beat but the Wolfpack, Omega, and the Central KY Tigers are not far behind.

What was the reason Wolfpack pulled out of the tournament? Seems pretty lame to pay all that money to pull out at the last second. I would guess the guys running the tournament were not very happy.
