  1. Dayton Christmas Tournament brackets are set.

6th grade brackets look like this.

    Top Heavy for sure !!

Summit View vs St. Joe winner plays Walton Verona vs Highlands

Twenhofel vs Campbell Co winner plays Dayton vs Turkeyfoot

Walton Verona vs Highlands matchup will be very good 1st round game. WV has some nice players and are very well coached.

Looks like 7th Grade/8th Grade Mix is loaded with some good teams!! Turkeyfoot, CCMS, Highlands, Villa, Summit View, Holy Cross and Dayton!

  2. Since it wasn't a 'district' game they didn't have to keep the clock running (does that make sense? Perhaps they said 'league' game)........ That is what I was told when I questioned why the clock wasn't running. The entire 4th quarter the clock did run. I can't really recall the 3rd quarter. Perhaps midway through the 3rd quarter they kept it running. The first half it stopped every whistle.

I saw a game last night where they ran the clock, and it wasn't a district game.

  3. It is just one good game played so I'm not sure abt a turn around, but I know that the 7th has 5 different players from last yr's team. Also, Jacob Noe has improved a bunch & with the additions of 6th man New & starting forward Sparks there is certainly a difference. The guard play of Gish, Rom, & Schoellman has gotten better/more confident.

8th struggled in the 2nd half...

Highlands 7th Grade Beat Conner? If so great win for the Birds.

  4. Clutch, they couldnt stop them when they had to go man to man, period. Did you watch the game or only worry about watching the Ncc staff?

I'm done discussing this if all you have to bring up is Coach Brannen and things said on the sidelines. Why do I need to watch my comment on getting beat down from a smaller school. The records arent close and that is a fact. Anyway, Good Luck to the Camels the rest of the year and the Breds in the ALL A and the rest of the year. Coach Russell is a good guy and coach and will do well there.

  5. What garbage? You better find a better source that's for sure because you dont know what you are talking about. If you do know what they have coming in then you would understand why the future is bright. No one can replace Giesler but there are players waiting in the wings who are very good players. You act like NCC is good just because of Jake Giesler. They have been good in the past and will be good in the future. Stupid statement also about kids would play harder for anyone else. NCC players practice hard and play hard every day. No coaching staff works harder, scouts more or prepares more than Coach Brannen and his staff. Period!

  6. Afi100guy- are you serious? The main complaint Coach Brannen had was the "none" goal tending call when the Campbell player pulled the rim down while the ball was going in. You are way out of line saying he yelled expletives and beraded the refs. What a joke? Calls were far from one sided. Bottom line is this. Campbell played a 3-2 zone because they couldnt guard NCC man to man. When NCC got up and forced them to play man to man the game was over. Newcath abused their man to man defense. The only thing Campbell could do was foul them because they couldnt guard them. As for Coach Brannen, the kids love to play for him, they respect him and future Thoroughbreds are really looking forward to playing for him. He gets on refs when he should but never berades them. Campbell player got a t for using an expletive that is an automatic "T". i was sitting right there. You obviously have a personal problem with Coach Brannen because things you are saying about him are completely false. Qryche11-program is in good hands at all levels. Ncc had huge numbers this year for tryouts. I'm quite sure Coach Pangallo would agree that the program is in good hands with Coach Brannen and he is a better coach today because of him.

They will obviously miss Giesler when he is gone but the Breds will be fine. They have a great program and another very nice group coming in next year. All is fine on the hill, I guess it does get old getting a beat down from a small school year in and year out in every sport.

  7. Add me too. Coach Brannen said in our pregame interview that Jake still doesn't have his "basketball legs" yet. Kid's averaging 24 points a game and doesn't have his legs yet?? Sounds a bit athletic to me. Again, just my opinion.

Very good opinion too. Giesler is very athletic and a very good big man. He is averaging about 22 rebounds a game also. I know the kid personally. He works his tail off and is a winner. Here's hope that he is POY in NKY. There is a reason he also won the sportsmanship award. Great kid!

  8. Overly aggressive??? You are being very kind.

Brossart went to the free-throw line 47 times. That may be some sort of freshmen game record.

Defense is an art. Played by five players, working together to create turnovers, and limit high-percentage shots. Good defensive teams don't send their opponents to the free-throw line 47 times. They don't reach in and try to steal the ball on each possession, they don't leave their feet, they don't slash at shooters. Good defense is honed through hours and hours of teaching proper technique, endless shell game, and sometimes years of practice. A tradition of defensive excellence also helps. Our frehmen are light years from achieving defensive excellence, but at least are versed on the proper fundamentals, but as we saw in the Campbell County game, often get caught up in the style being played by our opponents and sometimes fail fundamentally. Campbell County went to the line 16 times, which is unacceptable by our standards.

I have one MAJOR complaint with the officials calling that ball game. We took three legitimate charges in that game which were called blocks. We were in great defensive position, had our feet planted and the Campbell players were out of control in all three instances. The one "charge" that was called was closer to a block than a charge. We work way too hard to have our guys stand in and take those charges to have some gutless rookie officials either not know who has initiated the contact, finds it easier to call the block rather than to reward the charge, or simply don't have the intestinal fortitude to call the charge.

Mr. CamelsHess you were outplayed, outexecuted, outcoached, and our fans could recognize what it was that we were trying to do offensively and defensively. They could see what our coaches are trying to achieve in their two hours of practice everyday. Can the same be said for your parents/fans, or are you going to spend you playing career blaming your shortcomings on bad officials, etc.???

If that is the case you are in for a long, frustrating, unfulfilled four years of high school basketball.
