  1. If Owen wants a successful program then I suggest that everyone support whomever they choose to hire, regardless of their feelings on the candidate. Support leads to success, not the other way around.

I'm sure this is a dumb question, but I don't know. How many high schools are in Owen Co. and how close is it to schools like Williamstown, Grant, Walton, etc?

    Under the Lights,

You hit the nail on the head. And the support has to come from parents. Not as much fundraising and financial support, because they do that now. But the realization from parents what kind of discipline, dedication, work and time is necessary from their kids in order to see some success. That's what is missing.

  2. This one is very tough to call. I think the game will depend on foul trouble. Owen wins this if Kelsey Williams stays in the game. If she has to sit for very long, they could be in trouble. Same thing for Carroll, if the guard (Gurdy? Girty?)gets in foul trouble like the last time they played. Carroll will have to shoot well from outside, because they got nothing close in the last game at Owen. It should be a good one. Really like both of these coaches.

  3. Any knowledge of how the game came down? Owen jump out early...or pull away late? Either way, good win for Coach Duvall and the Rebels. Sets up a big game with the Wildcats now. Isn't this the way it's supposed to turn out...two best teams of the district battling in out in (what should be) a packed house (for both sides) with the championship on the line. Should be worth the price of admission!!

Owen led all the way. Carroll played a box and one on Gamble till the last few minutes of the 4th quarter, face guarding him and double-teaming when he got the ball. He stiil had 17, plus about 6 steals. Shelton had to sit about half the game due to foul trouble. The only offense Carroll could manage came from Hendrick inside. Owen missed a boatload of foul shots.

  4. Having played there many years ago I would have to agree with you on the state of things now. To have a winning program you must have support at every level, and in my opinion it is not there from the top. Being at a rival school I see a very big differnce from the admin. here and at Owen. It is sad to see a program go from the state semi finals when I was there to where it is today.

I really don't get where you're coming from regarding lack of support. Maybe the wrong decision was made in the coaching hire, but I think that from the BD of ED, Central Office, and school level administration, there is support for a winning program. These kids deserve a coach that can motivate, discipline, and place the right personnel in the game to put them in a position to win. I hope they are successful in finding the right guy.

  5. Who will be the top pitchers in the 8th region? I know Michael Ogden from Owen Co. will be one of the top, if not the best and Michael Walter from Williamstown, along with Scott Brown from Gallatin Co. Who else?

I think Ogden is far and away the top picher. These others may be good, I have seen them, but they aren't that close.

  6. I can see a couple reasons. It's possible their keeping stats to help in their college recruitment process. Depending on who keeps stats for the school, they might not be very reliable, and the school might have a history of not really getting their players' names and stats out to colleges. Also, the player may want their parent to keep stats so they can see either how they're progressing, or where they're slumping so they know what they need to work on. There's multiple reasons for one to keep stats. Heck, some probably do it just so they can stay focused on the game. I really don't see it as a selfish act.[/QUOT

Agreed, there are multiple "very good" reasons for keeping stats. However, telling a college coach "These are my REAL stats, my mom kept them" might not be one of them.

  7. Not casting any judgement on it but wondered what is the point of having a notebook and keeping your own stats in the stands? I see a bunch of notebooks, scraps of paper and the like this season.

Every team keeps their own stats. What is the parent going to do with this other set of stats? It is a needless activity and shows something about the parent, like "I have a chip on my shoulder", "My son/daughter is being mistreated", "My son/daughter is better than people really know". I'm sure every parent can come up with a rebound or assist that may have been missed, but if you do , so what? What do you do with that extra assist or rebound? I guess just file it away and become more disgruntled.
