Sorry for the omission. I thought I had him in there. He played very well in both games. He is going to be a really good one

Did WH fast-break Owen to death? The Wolverines have had some very athletic teams in the past few years...I thought Owen could keep up, though. This score surprises me a bit...
No, the opposite. They were patient on offense and never allowed Owen to run. I would say Owen would have loved to be in an up and down game. Owen shot poorly, came back a couple of times, but couldn't get over the hump. Had to foul the last 2 minutes

I think Owen has a legit shot at winning the region this year. You all can laugh and think its crazy, but it wasn't so crazy last year when Gallatin did it was it? Shelton is a good player, but I think Gamble is there best player by far. He is a playmaker. I don't think they will win the region, as I think Anderson should win it, but anything is possible and I think Owen is good enough to make a run.
Also, my sleeper player is Cody Hinkle from HC. He is a really good post player and I think he will blossom this year. Also watch out for Connor Jeffries of HC, saw him this summer and he has improved greatly. I am not saying they are the top players in the region, but deserve some votes for top 10-15.[/QU
Agreed. Gamble averaged 19 a game and was the focal point of the opponent's defense every game. Also, Henry County cannot be overlooked. Hinkle is back, Jeffries was coming on late last year and can get to the bucket well. They manage to stay in games, particularly at home.

Let me say it this way... If I had a 6'8" kid on my team that has talent, he had better be touching the ball most every trip down the floor. Especially when most of the teams they play will not have a kid over 6'3". Some of the fans for OC that I have talked to over the summer have indicated this is not the case.
And I bet I know who the fans are

Last year Grant beat Owen once and had them down by double digits at Owen when Kinmon pulled the starters. I'm not disagreeing, just making a statement to your response.
Owen literally played their worst game of the year at Grant last year. No excuses, Grant won the game. Also, I need to check back on your remembrance of the game at Owen. I could be wrong, but I don't think your statement is accurate.
-
I thought about putting Grant in there, but I really did not know how many kids they had coming back. I am not certain I would put them ahead of Owen or not especially if they(owen) learn to play together instead of as individuals. This should be a fun season to watch unfold.
You keep referring to team chemistry and playing together in regards to Owen County. I didn't notice a lack of unity last year. What are you speaking of?

That could've been a very sweet setup if they could've put the field down in the bowl, especially if they kept the field up top for track and soccer.
There is not enough room up top for a regulation track. That's why the track is going in the bowl

There are some great kids (juniors) on this team, but don't tell me #20 isn't trying to be a leader. Did you see the game tonight? Why give up on this season? It's not over. Sounds like our losing football coach from last fall. Heck with the seniors lets work on next year? There ain't no next year for them.
20ROOK,
You're right about 20, and about the season not being over. They just need more than one kid take ownership. If that happened, things could turn quick.

It's a combination of factors. Lost 6 seniors and a lot of pitching and bats. And the biggest intangible is leadership that has not been picked up by anyone yet. Mix that in with a new coaching staff, poor weather that has allowed sparse practicing(especially important with new players, new positions, and a new staff), a tougher schedule than they have ever played, and the record reflects all of that. They just need to have some fun, win or lose.

After seeing some of the parents reactions when they played Gallatin in Warsaw a couple of weeks ago I believe they get frustrated and can never recover.
I'm not clear about the meaning of this statement. Are you insinuating the parents are the root of their problem?
-
It also helps when your team starts putting some runs on the board as well. From what I hear that hasn't been happening. I have seen a few games. The last couple nites, looks as if you have some hitters stepping up. Where does Harris, McDonald and Gamble place in the line up. Doesn't Harris lead off? Wasn't for sure where the other two were. It is gonna take the stepping up of those bats to help out your pitching and cut down on those errors.
They are 1,2,3

Did you say a 6th grader is now playing shortstop for Owen Co.?
He has played some there. He will be a nice player in time, but I think it was a wakeup call to the others.

Shelby's got a great park. Too bad the score wasn't 33-0
-
From what I heard, Mac played everyone in uniform. So I am guessing this could have been a lot worse.
Since you were not at the game, all you're doing is guessing.
-
From what I heard, Owen County had a few bad calls.
Someone said the score should have been much worse.
A few is an understatement. They won't be going back to Harrison again. Two ridiculous calls at first, a foul ball called fair that was 5 feet out, a missed call at home plate, and a plate umpire from (I'm not allowed to say it). If Harrison plays them all at home, they will win it all.

I think SOME of the 8th region officials are respected...but, I think they're in the minority. Coldiron, Kellam, Asher, Knollman and a couple of others I would take against any other region's officials. But, there are others (no names mentioned here, you know who they are) that aren't worth a whole lot. And what's really bad, is when you've got 2 or 3 of them together at the same time...and unfortunately, that happens way too often.
Exactly my sentiments. Knollman, Sandlin, Coldiron are good. There are others that do not need to be calling boys' varsity games. We know who they are. It should tell the guy in charge of the 8th region officials when it is such an overwhelming consensus about some of these guys. Being "consistently bad" is not acceptable, because that is rarely the case. It usually turns out pretty one-sided.

I look for big things from Walton this year.
Who do they return? I know Hopperton is back.
-
It will be a long season for the Owen Co. We have a real tough schedule. We have only 3 returning starters. Only one hitter over .300 and 1 pitcher with a varsity win. Maybe by District time we'll be ready.
20ROOK
Don't sell them short. They lost a lot, probably the best 1st baseman in the 8th last year, and also some good senior leaders, but some of it was cancerous, and everybody knows that source . Ogden is good for a win a week, plus a district and region win. I AM concerned that the schedule is so steep. They have to keep from getting their heads down early if we take some whippings. Your assessment about taking a little time is right on target.
-
I am sure that you were an impartial observer?
I have seen your comments. I know how impartial you are. I also know that when it comes to Owen County, you are nothing but negative.
-
Terrible officiating. It might have had a different outcome but 5 bad calls late in the game all went Shelby's way. Congrats to Owen on a good season. No one thought they would be as good as they were. Good luck to Shelby,
Yeah, not taking anything away from Shelby. Both teams played their tails off.
-
If Watkins is an official you can bet that there are going to be some HORRID calls. :thumb: So many coach's have scratched him I don't see how he can be an official at any games. Just Amazing.
I don't see how you let him call a regional game, especially with the two he was teamed up with. Owen was making a huge run and the officiating crew made 5 devastating calls in the last minutes that were the crux of the game. Thank you 8th region officials!
