  1. Probably today. Rains will not have parent issues. The only time there is parent issues is if the coach lets there be. Rains has been around a long time and been successful everywhere he has been. I dont see any difference with Mercer. I also want to say...that the admin did an excellent job through this process. They had their guy and went through the process. When they were being bashed on here they were taking care of what they needed to do. This is a homerun hire for them.

    Absolutely!!

  2. Rains also hasn't lost a game yet. I hope there are brighter days ahead. But since the merger the atmosphere around the program has not been very positive. Other than 2006 of course.

Mercer made a great hire here! Coach Rains is going to be exactly what this program needs. Why don't we all start being more positive. It is a new day and a new era. Let's give Rains our full support and not start the pessimistic and negative statements already... " Rains also hasn't lost a game yet ". Come on, Mercer got an excellent coach here, lets now support him!! And... Merger is over my friend... please move forward! You can't see the future if you're always looking at the past. The positive can start with you. :thumb:

  3. That is good to hear. I hope they do things sooner rather than later. They could use a good session of spring football with the new coach.

Definitely need the spring football with new coach. Ya know, there are many of us posters who have stated who we want and believe to be the answer for the football program. I now question will any of these well-established coaches believe in us and our potential. There is much work to be done, but they don't grow 'em any different in Boyle Co than they do in Mercer Co. Unfortunately we're a few years behind building the foundation for a solid program and any outside coach looking in may not see what we see. No doubt, we have a lot of catching up to do, but ya know what, when we do - if we get a good, well-established coach willing to come here - then the times will change. I'm not ignorant to the current situation, but I do believe in 'us' and with the right coach, the future could be very promising!! I look forward to that day!

  4. Out of respect for the two guys I am not going to name names. I know the two guys have interviewed at a few other schools also. I will say if Mercer is going to wait until then than both of the guys I am aware of are not going to wait. Thats a shame because that means they will miss out on both these guys. Both of them want/need to be in the school by Jan.

If Mercer has talked to two well-established coaches, then looks like they are not wanting to wait until spring. Though I know this would shock most of us since the impression was that they were going to wait and were in no big hurry, but if 'talks' are going on now, then maybe the right buttons have been pushed. If the Mercer Admin were to pull off a big hire I know we'd all fall over... but then again, it is Christmas. Dear Santa... would you PLEASE, for the sake of our beloved Titans bring us Coach *********. You fill in the blank! :thumb:

  5. No. The text simply said 'I heard Mercer offered the job to someone but I don't know who.' I told them I'd throw it up here and see if anyone had heard anything. If there is news like that more often than not it is on here before it starts making the rounds on cell phones. I tried to tell the texter to check BGP. I guess the texter was too lazy and wanted me to do it.:eyeonyou: Oh well. :idunno:

Have they even posted the job yet? Not that it matters if they post the job at Mercer........but have they posted it yet?

I checked the schools website and it is posted on there, just checked the KHSAA site and it is posted there too. And the madness begins, huh?!

  6. I was going to say.:scared:

I just got a text that Mercer offered the job to someone but the sender of the text doesn't have a name() Has anyone heard anything like that in the past day or so? I am assuming it's not legit and that no one has heard anything like that otherwise it'd be on here but I am throwing it out there nonetheless to see if it sticks.

I haven't heard this and have a few friends 'inside' the school/Mercer football program and feel confident they would have already contacted me if this was true. Did the text give the name of the new coach? You don't have to post on here so we don't stir something that may be rumor only, but if you want you can PM me.

  7. This job, despite the problems that we seem to hear, could still be a great one if:

    1) Hire a person that will do it their way and stand up for what they feel is right. The administration needs to turn the coach loose and trust that they will.

    2) Fans need to realize that the next four years could seem murderous at times, however, allow the coach/staff/players to keep pressing on and don't be negative. Let's be honest, the chances of Mercer winning the district from '11-'14 is slim, however, I could see them finishing 3rd and possibly even 2nd if fortunate enough, thus being the building blocks needed to see Mercer County become the program that it has the potential of becoming.

Nicely put Harry! Don't you ever wonder if the 'administration' at the schools read these threads?

  8. Just a couple of things I find odd. The posting of the job is totally irrelevant, and everyone is making too big of a deal out of that. They don't even have to post the job. Did they post the basketball job? If they know who they want they could have hired them the day after Mason resigned.

Now that being said if they are going outside they will need to have a teaching job to provide the person they hire that is where it gets tricky. I think we all know who the main players for this postiion are and there is a few people that are working diligently to pull it off.

Also I beleive this is going to be a long process and there will probably be feathers ruffled before all is said and done.

Great point about the posting of the job. I don't think they did post the basketball job, Britt was named the coach before anyone really knew what was going on. Not very good to be inconsistent like this.

"If they go outside" - I haven't heard of anyone in house that wants it. Some on here have mentioned coach Jeremy Britt, but I don't know that he actually wants it according to some in the Mercer football community. So by all accounts, it looks like the school will hire someone from the outside, but that still remains to be the big question, Who?

And it wouldn't be Mercer if feathers didn't get ruffled!!

  9. I heard that will be posted on Friday, December 3rd. Guess we'll see if that happens on Friday.

Last I heard was they will post it on Monday, December 6th. Supposedly they're waiting to get the banquet over with and the banquet is this Sunday. Either way, its gonna start to get interesting in the next few weeks.

  10. Word on the street updates after the Thanksgiving Holidays and I returned to work in Harrodsburg.......

The support and hope for David Buchanan is still very high. There is reportedly a small pocket of parents who don't want Buchanan. I have been told that the reasoning behind this is that they are worried about their kids playing time. Apparently Buchanan has a son who is a freshman this year I believe and he plays the qb position. I also heard that this small pocket of parents are backing Jeremy Britt as coach to Yates. I also heard that if there isn't a spot for Buchanan's wife as a teacher and if Buchanan can't bring his DC that chances of landing him will be slim. The DC has a son who is currently a sophomore running back, I believe. I also heard that the principal at the 9th Grade Academy is Buchanan's best friend and is working hard to get Coach Buchanan at Mercer. There is a Social Studies teacher retiring as was reported earlier and that would be the spot where Coach Buchanan would take. Stay tuned........

I was told Yeast will not be offered the job.

I was told the job will be posted on December 3rd.

That's all I have for now but it's lunch so I may have more word on the street info later. None of this is concrete info. It is all hearsay and speculative but it is the word on the street.....11/29/10.

PurplePride... I always enjoy reading your posts and for the most part you provide great accuracy. :thumb: However, I do know some folks in the Mercer football circle who have more knowledge about Buchanan. And after reading your post, I did some inquiring and asked those who do know Buchanan.

    1. Buchanan's son is big kid and plays defense lineman, not QB. Yes, he will be a freshman next year.

    2. Buchanan's wife hasn't taught in 15 years and isn't currently looking to get back in to teaching.

    3. No talks or 'demands' of teaching positions and bringing the Mason DC have not occurred.

Hope this clarifies the speculations on this.

Keep us posted on what you hear PurplePride! I hear pretty much the same things as you with the exception of the ones stated above.

And yes, the hopes for getting Buchanan are still very high. Dear Santa... :dancingpa

  11. As an outsider looking in, only basing these comments on what I have read from this forum over the last couple of years I would say Spread O has hit the nail on the head with his comment. To have a good "PROGRAM" you need a few athletes, some good coaches, good administration, good facilities, good community support, and GREAT PARENTS. If you are missing any of these ingredients then it is hard to expect that the end result will taste good.

Totally agree with Spread O!! Mercer has several of the keys that you mention in this post... athletes, facilities, community support and though parents will be parents, I believe all in all they would support a proven coach. I don't remember hearing them give Jaggers much grief, but he was winning. Winning takes care of some of those issues. You can figure out the keys that I didn't indicate Mercer has and take it from there. So how does that get fixed?

  12. I think we use the word "experience" too loosely sometimes. Just because a guy has never been a head coach doesn't mean he is not ready to be a head coach and lead a program. Every head football coach in the history of coaching had to start somewhere. I bet you they weren't a head coach before they became a head coach. When a guy goes off and proves himself as a player and as a coach what else do you need. It's to my understanding, every place Yeast goes the teams get better and they win. The proof is in the pudding, if kids love playing for him and they respond well to him, IMO, that all I need.

The proof is in the pudding about several of the coaches listed in this thread. I'm sure the kids love playing for Rains and Buchanan too, so that goes for all of them. No doubt Yeast could be a major asset to any program and with his hometown ties, that is a plus for him as well. Maybe we can get a 'dream team' of coaches. One of the experienced, current head coaches and bring Yeast on board to help build a program that competes year in and year out that other teams dread to play. Wouldn't that be awesome?!! :thumb:

  13. IMO I believe they should bring someone in outside the Mercer coaching staff. Not saying I do not like Britt Mut, I think most the parents want someone new. I dont really know much about Yeast other than he was an assistant at I believe Lincoln and Marion. Britt was a great RB in high school and as far as I know a pretty good assistant coach, but then again so was Mason. I don't know much than what I have heard on here about Buchanan or Rains but it sounds like they are both very good coaches that can turn programs around which is really what Mercer needs. Given that I don't know much about either of them so I can't say its what Mercer is looking for. Regardless of who we choose, we need to do it by January because these kids need to get to know the coach and become familiar with his system as soon as possible. Typical Yates and the administration lolly gag around until they are forced to "pull a name out of the hat". If I did have a say in who was hired I would prolly go with the hometown coach Buchanan. He has the communities support and I believe he will be taking in with open arms. I believe it will take someone who grew up here and knows Mercer to turn this town and our team around. I'm not sayin he's going to walk in and go 10-0. I believe we will see a drastic change in the first year followed with hopefully more in the second year. Once again this is just my oppinion and I'm sure I'll be bashed for it, but I really do not care.

You make excellent points! And yes, the decision needs to made in January, but I do agree with you that the administration's past record doesn't give us much to be confident about. The ol 'pull a name out of the hat' cracks me up, but has some truth in that statement. :thumb: And as a fan, you state what I hear all over the community... they don't expect Buchanan to come in and go 10-0, but they know we will see a drastic change and step in the right direction for exciting things to happen for the Titans football team.

  14. It appears that you favor Buchanan. The question being why would he even consider leaving a secure position like Mason County to take on a volatile situation like Mercer? Homeboy or not when he struggles he will get the same treatment every other coach has gotten. I think both he and Rains would be great choices for us, but I just can't come to convince myself that they would actually consider this situation. Whoever gets the job should be set up with nice numbers in the upper grade levels and should be set up to be a player in the district race.

Yes, I do favor Buchanan. Like I said, he or Rains would be great for the Mercer program. From what I know and from what I hear in the community, Buchanan is the favorite. But I do agree that it would be hard to see him or Rains stepping in to this situation if the administration isn't willing to do some things to help them in order to get them here.

  15. I think Paul Rains should be highly considered for the job. A winner in every aspect. His record speaks for itself.

I agree, Rains is a proven, experienced coach who knows how to win. IMO, Rains and Buchanan, are the only 2 coaches that have been mentioned as possible candidates that have what the Mercer program needs. They both have excellent resumes so to speak and know how to win. From what I hear from the Mercer community is they favor Buchanan because it is home, and he definitely has passion about the Mercer football program... back to the days when his dad, John Buchanan coached at Mercer. And as stated before, he BUILT a Mason County football program that has gained respect from the football community around the state. Mason was only a basketball school before he got there and now they love their football too. If he were to consider coming to Mercer, I think he would be here for the long haul.
