  1. Raceland's Scott Grizzle who had over 2,000 yards passing, 40 combined TD's, and only 7 int. only received offers from only KCU, Mt. Union College, Georgetown College, and South West Baptist University. Scott was a top 10 Mr. Football candidate by the Catspause magazing and was all-state by the courial journel. I really think that his height (5'11 maybe 6'0) really hurt him and also the fact that he played at a single A school. I think college coaches base their decisions too much on height, weight, and school reputation. I think the intangibles are the most important thing; how much heart a kid has, is the kid a winner, and will he compete. Those things should be the major factors in selecting an athlete. However, Ammons, Petrino, and Grizzle are all 3 VERY good high school QB's and I'm really happy to see all of them playing at the next level.

Grizzle is a good high school qb but is not in the same class as Patrino and Ammons IMO.

  2. Yes, kele okereke, you did miss it. Those maroon glasses must have been fogged up at that point of the game.

I must have missed it. I think he did score on him once in the post but "no contest"? I don't know about that. I'm not saying McDavid is better than Vanhoose before you get all defensive, but I do think McDavid is alot stronger than Vanhoose and I don't think he beat him in the post much if any. :p

  3. Good to see a little spirited "debate" between the Russell and Ashland contingents. When you guys play "kissie butt", you guys are neither interesting nor honest.

The atmosphere at the game was full of electricity. It was truly a pleasure to be there. Both student sections were good and seemed to be reasonably controlled. I watched Coach Sparks and, I believe, Principal Howard patrol and hawkeye the Russell group the entire game. They did a good job as "enforcers". I didn't see anyone monitoring the Ashland group but didn't see any real problems.

If anyone had any doubts, they should have been settled. Jonathan VanHoose was clearly the dominent player on the floor. He was a coach on the floor, scored, rebounded, and played good defense. When he posted up a couple of times on McDavid, it was no contest.

Onetoya offered an olive branch of sorts in his first post but has since shown those true maroon colors and the branch has been burned. Ashlanders continue to live in the distant past and, if that new steel mill is not built pretty quickly, the future looks less than promising for them.

If it cannot be said that Russell is dominent in the region, at least we can say that they are dominent against Ashland, don't you think?

The only time i remember Vanhoose posting up on McDAvid all night he shot an airball? He did put a few in his face from three point range but I must have missed his dominant post play?

  4. I was not talking about Ferg or the Twins. IMO they are the only ones close to Euton and Jackson "As Freshmen"

None of the others mentioned, put up the numbers as freshmen that Euton and Jackson are putting up. Especially against double teams.

All the other one's played with much better player's. They all played on team's with VERY good upper classmen. Euton and Jackson do not. Euton and Jackson both have more potential than the rest mentioned no doubt. My point is they are not better RIGHT NOW than the other players mentioned.

  5. I am sure that Coach Biggs, Coach Mays and Coach Dodd would say their duo is the best. What's the big deal? Lets not forget they are freshmen and they are ranked the #1 and #2 freshmen in the State. Has there ever been a player in the 16 region that was ranked #1 or #2 in the state?

We do know that none of the duos mentioned in this thread were as good as Euton and Jackson when they were freshmen. Most of them did not play varsity ball when they were freshmen. Euton and Jackson would start for any team in the region this year.

God willing, and with alot of hard work, Euton and Jackson will sign major D-1 scholarships after their senior season. Who was the last players in the 16th region that signed a major D-1 basketball scholarship? The only one I can think of is Mike Scott to Wake Forrest in 1985. Several Mid-Majors, but only on Major.

Actually I think all of the players mentioned started as freshman.:D;)
  6. If you are going to quote me, please get it right. What I said was they have a combination of size and skill, I also provided a link to some statistics that I used to reach my conclusion. Thirdly I stated that many college coaches, who also I guess only have an opinion, are interested in them.

Now I'll admit my beliefs are based on my analysis of this information and I am somewhate bias to RH. But at least I did state facts.

I have yet to see a logical rebutal, therefore I can only conclude, I am debating with a child. That is why I will bow out at this timel.

I would hope they would have better stats. They've shot about 100 more times this year than all the other top players in the area. And they play the weakest competition BY FAR!
