  1. I am always intrigued to hear some of the BGP'ers talking about past state Champion teams and wanted to get a thread started to learn more about specific teams they may have played for...been a fan of or simply know about.

I was very young when my alma mater (Bellevue) won state titles in 1977 and 1979. I have some vague memories of the Sutkamps, Sprague, Schreiber, Hurtt, etc... I know the 79' team defeated a tough Richmond Madison team who had an All State Defensive lineman who was huge.

I was also a teammate (my sr. yr) of a very talented group of Freshman at Bellevue who later in their Jr. year 1990 made it to the State finals only to lose to a tough Russelville squad in Class A. That Bellevue team was loaded with speed...Brad Hissong, David Kiefer, Tommy Vickers..etc.

Lets hear about the state champion teams you know about and some of the top players and action from those years. Go back as far as you want in history....

Don't forget the 80 and 81 teams! Bellevue was a dominate force in the state during this time span.

  2. I know that both teams are beat up some. I know Ludlow has some major injuries and issues at the LB position. Which should allow Dayton's QB to run, then throw if needed. But I know Ludlow needs a victory to help their playoff hopes. This should be a good game all around, but I just think Dayton's offensive attack will be too much for Ludlow to handle

    Dayton 20

    Ludlow 13

  3. Wrong on nearly all accounts . . . . .

    Score:

    Beechwood 12

    Bellevue 8

As far as the calls go . . . . . (my famous line) . . . watch the tape. More than obvious on all accounts.

The Beechwood kids deserve a pat on the back after a tough week.

Beechwood does deserve a pat on the back, but in watching the film, the roughing the passer call, was a horrible call, the ball is still loose and the whistle had not blown yet. If ball is loose and play is still live, then that call is horrible.:madman:

  4. What was the score and what happened?

    Becchies 14

    Bellevue 8

There were a couple of very bad calls on consecutive plays late in the fourth quarter that gave Beechwood the ball inside the 10 and going in. There was a very bad uneccessary roughness call on Bellevue, when one of the guys dove on the Beechwood quarterback when he dove on the ground after a fumbled snap. On the next play, there was a questionable pass interference call against Bellevue when they intercepted the ball. It shouldn't have come down to this, but it was a great game by both teams. Congrats to the Beechies on their victory and congrats to both teams for playing such a good game.

  5. I give Conner alot of credit. They played hard all game and #'s 8, 35 and 44 displayed great talent. Although the game went down to the final seconds which made it exciting, the referees blew not judgement calls but actual football rule calls in Conner's final drive. Good luck to both teams the rest of the season.

Must have been a theme last night with all Nky officials...this happened in the Beechwood v. Bellevue freshman game:madman:

  6. Yeah actually I have seen a few post on here from other people that have questioned why Bellevue decided not to play...:sssh:

Ok...let's review the actually facts. Good ol' Doppler 12 said that it was going to rain all the way through the night. #2 Holy Cross had an issue with not getting Holmes field. #3 Officials had a another game Saturday. So those are the reasons why Bellevue agreed with HC AD and said let's call the game. To bad you weren't there Futurecoach, I am sure Bellevue and HC would have taken your insight into this decision

  7. I would imagine that BB is comprised of mainly FROSH and SOPHS with a few Juniors sprinkled in. Its going to take a while to get BB to the varsity level.

BB teams is frosh through seniors, I have heard that BB will be moving up to varsity level next year and will be playing Bellevue, Ludlow, Dayton, and Beechwood in district play:thumb:

  8. Welcome to BGP, but apparently they didn't want to play the second half or other wise they would have because it takes both teams to agree on what to do with a game. So that means Bellevue must agreed to giving the game up and not playing the next day...

It does take both teams...but with HC not having their own field and a officiated crew that had a game on Saturday...means that the game couldn't be played until this week. Which would mean that it would interfere with preparation for the next opponent.

  9. And you all wonder why we have stuff to say about Bellevue all the time, because people like you get on here and say stuff like this....I dont know one time when a single Ludlow person said Ludlow would win this game. I do know in the Bellevue Holy Cross thread that you all were picking Bellevue to win, and you all get all mad when we said that Bellevue wouldn't. And well look what happened Bellevue quit after just one half of play becaues they were getting destroyed by a team you all were saying you would beat...We never said we would beat Beechwood though, like you all did. So you have no room to say anything at all, quitters...:sssh:

Is there any reason for name calling....I thought we are all adults on here.:irked:

  10. Well the better team did win this game. But if they game had been finished last night or didn't have a delay the score probably would have been closer but with Beechwood still winning. Last night Beechwood really couldn't stop Ludlow's offense. But with the delay Beechwood got to make adjustments, and really stopped the run today that was their last night. But the pass was there today to start the game and Ludlows offense was still able to move the ball. But after halftime Beechwood got to make more adjustments and then they shut down the offense in the second half. So with the delay and halftime today gave Beechwood two times to make adjustments and that was the differnce because you cant give a team as good as Beechwood that many chances to make adjustments. Ludlow's defense though however was not able to stop Beechwoods offense at all, because all Beechwood did was run the ball but they couldn't stop it. So even if they game did get played last night with no delays Beechwood still would have won but the score might have been a little closer than this score. I know though if they do see each other again in the playoffs the offense of Ludow will have some confidence now because they did show in the first that they could move the ball. The defense though would have to step up to have a chance.

Good win by Beechwood, and good luck next week againt NCC. I look for Ludlow to get back on track next week against Bracken!

Not trying to ruffle your feathers or start an argument...but did Ludlow make any adjustments to Beechwood's offense or defense.

  11. How about some insightful football knowledge instead of kindergarten bickering? If you really want to carry on attacks about each others teams, use private messages. I hear enough fights between my own kids. :thumb:

Couldn't have said it better Hurricane. I will be in attendance tonight. As a fan of football and a grad of Bellevue from a long time ago. I am really looking forward to a good hard fought football game. Good Luck to The Tigers and Coach Eckstein and to Coach Koz and the Cross:ylsuper:

  12. Was it because of their defense that they about won? I dont think so. If I remember correctly their defense aloud Ludlow to march up and down the field all night long...So maybe you should stop over hyping your team and their defense when they couldn't stop anything last week...

Also you could thank Ludlow for even allowing Bellevue to even have a chance to win at the end...BTW good luck this week against Holy Cross!

You shouldn't over hype the Panthers either...Do you and the rest of Ludlow already have your hotel reserved in Louisville. Even though they did march up and down the field, they still couldn't put the game away...and that is the mark of an excellent team. Also BTW this is a thread about the Bellevue v. Holy Cross game...I am certain there is a thread about the Ludlow/Beechwood game some where else. Stick to the thread topics my friend:thumb:

  13. Sloppy play by NewCath that led to an HC victory.. On a different night NCC wins big.. Bellevue Wins this one not by defense but by running the ball.. Defense isnt that great.. Gave up 442 yards against Ludlow

That's like saying sloppy play by Bellevue led to a Ludlow victory...on a different they win big. Doesn't sloppy play always lead to the other teams victory? :sssh: A win is a win and a loss is a loss regardless of the other factors. NCC got out played as did Bellevue. I don't think Bellevue will play sloppy this week and Holy Cross will overlook Bellevue. Bellevue wins.

  14. You think that Dayton will put up 26 pts against NewCath? Unless they have Scotty Gray playing for them, or Sutton and Bovard catching passes I don't see it happening. Dayton could win, I don't know, but they will have to hold NewCath under 10 pts. b/c NewCath will not give up more than 10 against Dayton.

They gave up 10 to the Cross and I believe Dayton is a much better team than Holy Cross.

  15. I think that this idea could be interesting and fun to see. But in all honesty I think the same few teams would win all the time. Mainly, Trinity, Male, Highlands, etc. Also I don't think too many small schools could begin to compete. I really don't think NCC, even though they are a good team, could compete with Trinity or Male, etc. So even though it would be interesting to watch, I wouldn't want to see it happen.

  16. Being a Bellevue guy this is hard for me to do, but I will pick the Greendevils to win this one. I have had the opportunity to see both teams play, I think Dayton will be more prepared to win this and will be more physical during this game. Coach Lickert will go in with the best game plan he can and the Devils will execute efficiently.

    Dayton 26

    NCC 16

  17. I'm only gonna say that Ludlow isn't a senior laden team. I'm not sure about Bellevue. Both teams have traditionally played each other tough and it's always a hard hitting contest. I don't see that changing anytime soon, even though who wins the game very well could. It's always gonna be a battle!!

I agree pnthr4life...Bellevue has a good core of kids coming back and even in my days of playing ludlow, it was always a good hard hitting game. I know that part of the game will never change. I also know that just because Bellevue won a JV game doesn't mean they will dominate this rivalry for the next few years. I meant that it will give Bellevue a chance. I always look forward to what I have heard people call the "river Rat" Bowl.
