  1. If you don't mind please post and give your thoughts after viewing that scrimmage vs Dixie....Interested to see how both teams perform.

    Thanks....

Those that have been on here a long time know that I am a huge Conner fan. However, this will likely be the year of the Rebel. Ryle will likely be second with Campbell 3rd. The fourth spot is wide open, so since this is only speculation at this time I'll pick the Cougars. I'm hearing some good things about them but have not been able to watch any practice due to the fact that I'm still working out of town this season. I hope to watch the scrimmage next weekend with Dixie. After that, I can make a little better assessment. Farris makes it hard to pick anyone but Boone at this early point in the season, though.
  2. Always agreed with the saying the champ is the champ until they get beat.... Thus, RYLE is the favorite until they get beat. With that said, both Campbell and Boone will have very strong teams. Boone has a solid QB no doubt, but with Farris and his baseball future in the back of his mind might just hinder how their season goes. Camels should have the top "D" in the district and need some good play or at least consistent play at the QB position. RYLE has a many good players to replace and as people can speculate that is usually a hard thing to do. Remember CAMELS lost two very close games to them last year and beat Boone in the playoffs.

In no order…..RYLE, BOONE, CAMPBELL and the rest hoping for upsets.

  3. Not sure if the Camels are "the BEST" but they are definitely inconsideration for that title.

With the offensive of side of the ball losing so many key players to graduation, the “D” will need to be the strong point of the team, especially early on, while those offensive players get some experience under their belt.

  4. Not jealousy simple FACTS.... I would hope Bobby doesn't want any part of CCHS especially after being denied twice...once again a FACT!! He is in line for a nice career out of sports at BBHS. Still the FACT remains he has explored coaching options out in Claryville-way twice within the past 5yrs.

BTW - good luck to the Mustang football program as they begin varsity play this year....Newport Stadium, it is a very nice facility.

  5. Rowe has applied multiple times for CCHS openings (in two sports) and has obviously never gotten the job.....maybe this time if he tries he will succeed.

One does wonder why a beloved home grown fellow would want to leave such a rewarding place as BBHS? I am sure some will say money, and benefits which are going to be better at a public school vs a private school…..but for some of us who have been in the right places at the right times around the right people know, as in many cases, what goes on behind the scenes is not what is seen out in public or written about by some of the Mustang faithful on such places as BGP. Maybe the grass isn’t so green as BBHS?

  6. Having lights is not an issue (see Cov. Cath. - plenty of wins without having lights). Goalposts and stands can be purchased with little cost (also can be removable). Setting up concessions and restrooms again can be done….can be very creative ways of accomplishing this.

Using the NCC/Newport agreement, as a reference, is not something you want to do. The Wildcat family has not been happy with this situation for years. Prior to the new turf at Newport Stadium, NCC had a great deal when using the field (basically supplying the straw at the end of the year), as Newport had to use their staff and resources to take care of the field before and after every event at the field. NCC had it made…of course the Breds faithful liked it! Newport was able to finally get serious compensation for NCC using the field when they put in the turf. However when NCC found out that it would actually cost them some money they went searching for a better deal….ie, they went and talked to Highlands, Beechwood, and Dixie. In the end they realized the Newport deal would be the best not because of cost (because they were going to have to pay, real money, for using a field no matter where they played) rather because of location.

I think the biggest thing with this situation between BBHS and CCHS is they past 10 years or so there has been bad blood created between the two programs by the fans from both schools. All of sudden now the school that consistently is ripping CCHS athletics (see BSMustangs blog pages, BGP for that matter) wants to partner up. If the shoe was on the other foot I am certain the Mustang faithful would be against this venture as the Camel faithful seem to be now.

oldteacher--A direct response--Not trying to dodge any questions, although I don't recall being ask about the St. Mary's or Pendry options?? Truth is I've got no clue if the BBHS powers-to-be are discussing any of the options you mention?? I'm not involved any more than I suspect you are in these decisions. Common sense would say the main reason these options might not work would be simply that neither is a FOOTBALL facility!! I would think the logical stumbling blocks might be as follow:

Pendry Park--No lights, no stands, no goalposts, no concessions/restrooms near the soccer fields, etc.

St. Marys--No lights, no goalposts, no stands, no concessions/restrooms, etc. I'm also not sure if there's room as I believe these are youth fields and somewhat smaller than the 120 yards necessary for football?

That said most of these could be overcome, although the goalposts at Pendry would likely be an issue. I suspect these "options" have been explored, but honestly don't know. I'm not involved in any way other than support with the Brossart football program, so am not privy to these discussions. I would suspect that before anyone would sink the money necessary to build concessions, restrooms, stands, and goalposts at St. Mary's, other more permanent options would be explored?? If the county were to have an interest in providing a football option at Pendry, that would seem a more viable option.

I can certainly understand the concern SOME Campbell supporters have for BB using Miller stadium, and the strain this might put on an already overworked field with a history of problems. Not being a grounds keeping expert, it does seem odd to me that with the multitude of games aforementioned (Campbell Varsity, Campbell JV, Campbell Freshman, multiple age groups of youth leagues, Red Devils, Band Competitions, etc); that five (5) Brossart home games will destroy the field and endanger kid's health as many of you have stated?? 30-40 events are fine, but 35-45 will render the field unplayable and put kid's in jeopardy???? I suspect there may be other underlying reasons for a few fan's concerns????

Hope this is a direct enough response for you!!!!

  7. The Freshman playing with the CAMELS pitched against RYLE in their last meeting, losing 4-2. He has since being dressing with the JV team in all their JV Tourney games.

Having seeing Campbell Co., Cov. Cath and RYLE play I wouldn't think they need to drop anyone down to play, nor do I think their coaches would want it that way. Simply not fair to the guys who've played for them all year long. Having not seeing Beechwood this year, I would think they would be in the same boat as the remaining teams. I know the biggest thing is running out of arms, but that is part of it....give the ball to someone that has been with you all year and see if they can step up and deliver. Remember JV Baseball is about developing guys and getting them ready for Varsity.

When it comes to bringing players up (both for JV and Varsity) it is more about rewarding a player for having a good year. Now when it comes to dropping a player down that is a different situation. Should at least have played in 75% of the games with that team in order to be dropped down, just my opinion. With that said, each school and program handles this differently. A strong JV coach, I would assume, would rather play (win or lose) with his guys (those who have played with him the majority of year) rather than play win with a team of guys being dropped down solely for One or Two games of the year-end tournament.

  8. Yes, good luck to all four teams.

It is my hope that all fours teams go with the players that got them there in the first place. I personally don't believe in bringing down Juniors who haven't played an inning of JV all year long to play in the tournament. With that scenario you never know who the best team is at the JV level. Players should have to play a certain number of innings or games to be eligible to play in the tournament.

    Totally agree.....

Certain CAMELS will be playing with the team they have had all year long. One exception....a Freshman now playing with them that they brought a couple of weeks ago.

Look for both of semi-final games to be good ones….. and the Championship game for that matter.

  9. With CAMELS and COV CATH advancing with wins tonight it makes for a rematch of two very solid teams. Camels beat Cov. Cath. in late April 11-10 at Cov. Cath.

However, that was then and this is now. Should make for a great Semi-Finals game as both are very good teams.

  10. Games Today:

    Holy Cross -vs- Cov. Cath

    Dixie -vs- Campbell Co.

    St. Henry -vs- Beechwood

    Conner -vs- RYLE

Not sure where or what time the above games will be played.

Regardless of who wins the above games I believe this is the schedule, weather permitting:

    Semi-Finals:

    Friday May 18th - 5:00 @ Cov. Cath

    Firday May 18th - 5:00 @ New Cath

    Finals: Saturday May 19th - 4:00 @ Dixie

  11. Could be your calling:thumb: If you are qualified enough to critique them, your obviously qualified enough to step behind the plate and show them how it should be done.

Being praised and criticized goes with any profession. reSimply giving my opinion on what I have witnessed thus far this year.... Have to say, the umps last night (CCHS-vs-Ludlow game) were outstanding. They were consent with the strike zone and hustled to make their calls in the field. That is all any coach, player, fan can ask for and sorry to say that has not been the case this year, at least not with the consistence that it has been in the past few years.

  12. Why did RYLE and NCC play tonight? Bracket has them on Tuesday May 15th.

Scott -vs- Holmes, Lloyd -vs- Dixie, and Brossart -vs- Simon Kenton only games scheduled for tonight. Anyone heard the results of any of those games?

Playing early will definitely give RYLE some time to rest arms, which is nice for them. Good win for RYLE as NCC had a solid team. RYLE is solid as well. Hope the Umps will allow players to decide the games and not their calls.....Umps lately have been horribly (both ways).

    Semi-Finals Prediction:

    Holy Cross –vs- Campbell Co.

    Brossart/St. Henry –vs- RYLE

    We shall see.....

  13. Glad to hear Beechwood beats Ryle to win the championship as they seemed to be the better team. Lots of good talent in the JV ranks....Campbell Co., Beechwood, Ryle, NCC all had solid squads this year.

The St. Henry game in which the Camels came back from an 8-1 deficit was a great game to watch. If you were there you saw some great baseball being played.

Camels had 2 bad innings allowing all of Beechwood's 5 runs to be scored on errors. The ump behind the plate made some very bad mistakes in the last two innings that you don't want to see happen in this type of game, but that is part of it.

Congrats to Campbell Co. JV for a great year finishing 18-5. The Camels baseball future looks bright as this Sophomore class is very solid as is the Junior class.

  14. "Its early" is the key. Expectations are very high for the Camels. No doubt will be a legit contender for the District Championship as well as the Region 10 Title.

While the strike zone was very tight, especially for March 27th, Hurd was definitely not at his best and Robertson struggled to get into a rhythm (4 or 5 walks). The Camels didn’t help their own cause very much as they took too many pitches, which in turn left it in the hands of the umpire. Camels’ players should use this game as measuring stick as to where they want to be at the end of year.

LCC is the real deal. Very strong squad both at the plate and on the mound. Their #1 ranking, at this point, is justified. Both Krueger and Monroe hit opposite field HR’s that were bombs. The lefty L.C. brought in to pitch the 7th was throwing some good gas especially for a cold, drizzly, first game of the year.
