  1. The lack of a good point guard really hurt the Raiders - many unforced turnovers and Elliott Co. really took advantage of East's inability to handle the ball. Has been a weak spot for East all season. East could never get anything going on offense because of the turnovers and Elliott Co. was lighting it up from 3 point land. Elliott Co. played great tonight. Congratulations Elliott Co. and good luck in the Sweet-16 Tournament.

  2. East Carter has a good team this year and is definitely capable of making a run in the Regional tournament. Lost to Elliott twice - second game much closer that the first game. East will not play Rose Hill unless they meet in the Regional. Rose Hill has played a much tougher schedule. I have to say East should be #3 behind Elliott and Rose Hill.

  3. Congratulations to the Raiders on the win. East Carter's bench really came through after their senior guard Drew Johnson had to leave the game early in the second period following an inadvertant elbow to the mouth. Johnson got patched up and returned in the second half to finish with 15 points and 8 rebounds and had a really great block of a Matt Thomas jump shot in the final minutes that helped stall Ashland's fourth quarter rally. Last report was that Drew needed about 15 stitches at the emergency room to close the gash on his lip and will be ready to play Friday against Boyd Co. I think he showed a lot of heart for competing despite being injured. East Carter didn't execute effectively for most of the game but got big plays from Johnson, Bair, and Jackson when they needed them and really showed a lot of depth and pulled it together when the game got close. Bair finished with 15 points and Jackson had 12 (some really big 3's). East Carter is very solid ball club. Good win for the Raiders.

  4. Where was this game played? It wasn't listed on either school schedule, I checked the KHSAA web site.

Game was a late addition to the schedule. It was played at Morgan Co. as part of Commercial Bank (West Liberty) Showcase. 3 boys games and 1 girls game.

Drew Johnson led East with 17 points, Collin Kennedy added 11 and Colt Barnhill 10. Raiders put game away early - I think the third string played part of 2nd quarter and all of 4th quarter. Red Bird's #3 led all scorers. I think he had 28 points.

  5. You must have had your head turned and missed them. :D There was about 3 times tht he was fouled very hard and it wasn't called. I'm not just saying this about the game against East, but this happens every game. If the reason is that the refs have something against a member of his family, that's a shame. I could say nothing positive about an adult who would take this out on a kid. That's very sad. Do the job you are paid to do!!!!

I didn't miss anything. There were missed calls on both ends but to imply that Ferguson was 'clobbered' and there was no call is simply not accurate. East Carter played very good defense last night and there may have been some contact that wasn't called but I didn't see it as being 'clobbered'. Also it didn't appear that the officials intentionally missed any calls involving Ferguson. Elliott Co. and East Carter both have great kids in their programs and both are very competitive. No doubt Elliott Co. is on top of the 16th region right now but it looks like East Carter is closing the gap quickly.

  6. I was at the game and I didn't see any plays where Ferguson got "clobbered" and there was no call. Ferguson is well known around the region for "flopping" after a 3 point shot. He use to get the foul call from the officials but now most officials are wize to the "flop". Not to take anything away from Ferguson - he is a very good player and IMO the best 3 point shooter is the area but I don't believe the officials missed any calls involving him. If anyone got "clobbered" it was East Carter's Drew Johnson. IMO he had several "and one's" that were not called. Also a no call when Johnson went down hard after collision with Chris Knipp. As for Coach Baker stopping the game I believe it was the officials that stopped play. First occassion was a controversy regarding team fouls - scorekeeper had East Carter with 7 team fouls and let Elliott shoot 1 and 1 when East really only had 6 team fouls and second time was regarding two Elliott players in book with same number. IMO the officials missed calls on both ends but IMO it did not affect the outcome of the game.

  7. Congrats to Elliott Co. on the win. East Carter played really good man defense and rebounded the ball well. Elliott's press was not as effective as in the first matchup but Elliott still got enought scores off of turnovers to hold off the Raiders. East Carter is getting better each game and played with a lot of confidence. Look forward to watching rematch which will probably be in District play. Not quite ready to hand Elliott the District and Regional title yet. Great effort by East Carter - GO RAIDERS!!

  8. It was East Carter defeating Scott at the AIT not West Carter. Can mod correct please. Drew Johnson big for East with 23 points and Colt Barnhill double double with 17 points and 12 rebounds. Scott a very tough opponent with penetrating drives to the basket and good defense. Had East down by about 15 at one point but East made huge effort in 4th quarter to tie game at buzzer and pulled away in OT. Scott much better than their record indicates - well coached team that really plays hard.

  9. Raceland has the talent to beat East. East wasnt that impressive to me. The stripes also had Racelands main players in foul trouble early in the game. So dont pretend like they kept Raceland in the game. East had no answer for Boyles. East took the lead while Sparks was out in foul trouble.

The young ref did everything but hand the game to Raceland- would run in from opposite side of court to make a call when the official looking right at the play didn't blow his whistle. 2 East Carter starters on the bench in the first quarter. Sparks also in foul trouble early but he was not a factor when he was in the game. East outscored Raceland 41-28 in the second half to take the win. Boyles is a nice player - one of my preseason top 10 but it takes more that 1 player to win a game. East had plenty of answer as Drew Johnson knocked down the go ahead 3 point basket to finish with 18 points and Seagraves and Bair added free throws to extend the lead. I agree Raceland has some talented players and the rematch later in the season could go the other way but fact is for now East is better team. No pretending.

  10. eastfan far be it for me to disagree but, I saw East at Fairview, and Raceland and the top teams had very little problem with them ie Ashland, Raceland beat them 2-3 times

The final score of a summer scrimmage is rarely a reliable indicator of how a team will perform in the regular season. I believe East defeated Ashland in their only meeting this past summer and was leading Raceland before bringing in the JV players, but that is meaningless once the regular season begins. I didn't say that East was a top team - all I said was that they looked good and should be more competitive this season. Obviously others agree (CJ poll). We will find out how the teams stack up when they play each other this season.
