  1. It's official, according to a parent from Henry Co., Coach Kasten told his players after the loss to Shelby yesterday that he has turned in his resignation. Apparently, he wants to watch his son playing ball. Good Luck to Coach Kasten, who did a fantastic job at Henry, and to the Wildcats in finding a good replacement.

  2. Last night at the NCKC, I heard a rumor that the coach at Henry Co. (Caston) is stepping down after this year. Does anyone know if there is any truth to that?? I would think that would be a good job to have for the next few years. They have a very young team, and look to be the district favorite for many years to come.

  3. Carroll Co is extremely young. They have been for the past few years. For some reason, as the girls get older, they don't play. They seem to have to rebuild every other year without graduating many seniors from their team. Coach Boles in my opinion is doing the things that it takes to get their team on the right track, it will just take a few years for these young girls to mature and develop the winning mentality

  4. Oldham and Anderson Definitly. Shelby will probably be the third team and then the drop off is astounding. Grant lost their pitcher last year that they rode through the last 2 regions. Henry lost almost their entire team to graduation last year. Should be a pretty easy walk for Anderson and Oldham to the region title game(assuming they are in opposite halves of the draw).

  5. The new fieldhouse is located to the northeast of the field. If you saw where Henry Co. came onto the field from at the beginning of the game or at halftime, they entered from where the fieldhouse will be located. It seems to be a pretty nice facility. It will also give teams a place to go during halftime instead of grazing in the nearby pasture

  6. I agree that someone needs to set an example. I have only seen 1 Owen Co. game this year, but in the one that I did see, the seniors took care of the team. From the moment they got off the bus, the boys went to the locker room all on their own and were alone until they met the coaches on the field for pre-game. I don't know the coaches at Owen and hate to talk bad about them, but that stuck with me from early in the season as something strange. Now, in looking at this board, it makes a little more sense

  7. I was at the game as well. I also talked to the umpires on the bases after the game. The home plate umpire was nowhere to be found. (Imagine that) The explanation they gave was that the young lady in question was sliding all the way off the rubber to the side when she pitched. That is the home plate umpires call to make. The umpire on 1st base said that he had gone over and warned the pitcher several times throughout the game, but she kept starting on the middle of the rubber instead of scooting over to the edge before her wind up. I do have a couple of problems with this situation. First, let me say that I was watching the game as a spectator with no vested interest in that game.

I thought that it was in bad taste that someone from the KHSAA walked down to the field in the middle of the game to tell the umpires to watch for that. The umpires are chosen because they are supposed to be the best in their regions. Let them make the calls on the field and trust that they can do it. The coaches could see him walk down and call the umpires over, so you know that when they called it the next inning, they knew what had happened.

I also thought that the umpire calling it early, giving her a warning later and then calling it in the 7th inning with a girl on third was a little suspect. I talked with several umpires from other regions during the game and they all said that if you're going to call it, call it "early and often". The umpire let this girl do it a lot more than he called it, letting the young lady think that she was o.k.

How does it get fixed? That's what the KHSAA needs to figure out. In the region I'm in, you never see an illegal pitch called, and I know that there are a lot of regions that are the same. The shame here is that the pitcher may not have known that she was illegal, and when they called her on it in the state tourney, it might have been the first that she had heard about it.

  8. In the 8th, I'd say that the top 2 teams would come out of the 30th district. Anderson Co and Shelby Co. are probably the top 2 teams. Behind them would be Grant Co. and Oldham Co. Henry Co is rated pretty high in the region which I don't understand. They lost their entire team last year. Anyone know anything about them?
