  1. This isn't your heart predicting this game is it? Free throw, free throws, free throws. Which ever team can make free throws down the stretch will win the district championship. Vanhoose, Blair, and Gil come through for the Devils tonight and they make just enough FT to win it. Russell by 5.[/QU

    Russell - 52

Greenup- 47 What a great tournament to sponsor.............

  2. This thread is just meant to give appreciation to local officials who work really hard for local basketball. I just want to thank the officials for the very difficult job they do that many people would have no part of. People do not realize the hard work that is put in before and during the season. Many people wonder why they do it? Is it for the money? Well, I doubt that very seriously because they hardly make anything after the expenses they pay just to get to the game. Many of these officials drive an hour or two just to get there. Is it for the exercise? No, they could get that at the YMCA. Is is for the position of power? I don't think so. They do it for the kids. Whether you believe it or not, these officials care deeply for the area kids as a whole. They do not care about the school colors or the school mascot, they only care about the boys and girls being able to play the game they love. But mostly they do it because they love the game and they want to give something back to a game that has given them so much in their lifetime. You must truely love something to take quality time away from your family and friends for just a little pocket change. They lose countless hours with their families so that your sons and daughters can do what they love to do, and people just scream at them like they are dogs. Most people talk to their dogs in a better manner than they do officials. And you may think they cheat or that they didn't call a foul because the official's brother's best friend's aunt's cousin ran over the officials dog or whatever the case may be but that's not true. They do make mistakes, they do miss calls, and they have bad games but they do not cheat. Everyone makes mistakes, and sometimes they are big mistakes, but who doesn't. They will be the first to tell you that they are not perfect and sometimes they have bad games. But overall I think they do a wonderful job of officiating our local sports. We have some of the best officials in the state right here in the 16th region, so next time you feel like ripping one of these officials a new butt, just remember that they are doing the best job they can and they are the best around at what they do. It is a lot easier to call a game from the bleachers or the benches than it is on the court. They are brave men and women with high integrity and character to put up with what they put up with. They are the first to be criticized and the last to be congratulated. I just don't want them to feel like their contributions to the local sports goes unappreciated because it doesn't, I and many others greatly appreciate the hard work. Thank you for your hard work and the time you lose with your families, it doesn't go unreconized.
Thank you for always being so positive. You have the nicest things to say about everyone. I enjoy you.
  3. Great game by the cats. McDavid played his usual game. Wilcox was in the face of Vanhoose all night. Nothing came easy for him. Cannoy completely shut down Blair and had big 3 point play late in the 4th. Williams hit a few shots and was big on the boards. Everyone contributed tonight. This was a big momemtum builder heading into the district tournament next week. KEEP IT GOING CATS.

Great Game...I am so proud of the Russell Players, but I truly wish that the Seniors would have been allowed to play - no matter how long...Each Senior

has played awesome games throughout the season. Lavender has been a starter and great, and will be remembered for his greatness.Simpson has been awesome and picked up alot of slack,he will be remembered as one of the starters.

Maddox was amazing at the Greenup County and Morgan County Games, he was there when the team needed him the most to step up off the bench, and Pat Clarke returned this year with a great attitude and has contributed throughout. He will be remembered for his wonderful three -3 point shots against Boyd County and the many other times he was on the floors. A great tribute to our four seniors which will be great leaders soon. They will be a gift to any college and establishment. I look forward to seeing them in our community as leaders for years to come. I hope to see these incredible young men next week in the District, Regional, and then Rupp. I do think we have a great team to be proud of - We all may not agree with the decisions made during games but we still must give our best in support for our team. We should always be very proud...for we are RUSSELL.

  4. What brings the change of heart GoldStar?

This was my very first visit to these sites. They are not for me. I vented to get it off my chest because I deeply cared for Casey and did not want to give him up. I attacked the coach without having all my facts straight. I did not mean to send but I did. I think the Coach is great and does far more right than wrong. I am sure hope that I caused the Coach or Team any grief because of my stupid opinions. That team means alot to me. And as I said before I am sorry.

  5. Good win for the Devils. Nice to see other players step up and assume there role. Bench playing early in the season is beginning to pay off. Good game for Blair and good to see Gill stepping up his game. Got to get physical inside.

Get ready or district play. :fire: :fire: :fire:

We are READY, MIGHTY, & PROUD. We are going to STATE. Just Ask ME.
  6. exactly :thumb:

Ross Turner also came back strong from his all state choir performance with some big plays in the 4th quarter :thumb:

I am so glad you mentioned the key players. Our guys stepped up to the plate tonight and did not allow a loss. Gill, Austin, were great.....Vanhoose is amazing - he can play everywhere with a smile. We are lucky and we will go to STATE..Yes, Ross really made us proud as did Mullins & Ferguson in the JV game. Thank you for being so positive and bragging on our guys.
  7. Excellent win for Pikeville. Congratulations.

What happened to the Hornets? They score mid 70's at Johnson Central and can't break 50 at Pikeville! Who are the Hornets? - I graduated from Phelps High School in 1974 and we were called the Hornets. Are they still the Hornets? If so may I have information on Coaches - Players - etc.

With the seasons Magoffin County has posted the last few years, you'd think they'd come into a game like this hungry for a win. But it's like they think they are supposed to win some games just because they show up. Their record this year should shoot that notion down immediately! I know they are a much better team this year. But I simply don't understand why they wouldn't come to play against Pikeville (or Cumberland, or Estill County, etc.).

Who are the Hornets? I graduated from Phelps High School in 1974 were called the Hornets- The Mighty-Mighty Hornets....Are they still the Hornets? Who are the coaches - players - etc.
  8. Can we look up in the prediction thread who predicted Russell by 8? ;)
Ever who predicated Russell by 8 was the smart one. I am the dumb one - I wrote emotionally feelings on this site but did not think they went through - I am very sorry to anyone I offended. I think every coach in our systems are wonderful-because they are coaches. I was mad, I vented and did not want anyone to read. Yes, I am a rookie, that was stupid-so is my opinions. I am very sorry to any coach I have offended. I truly did not mean to send - I wanted to express those 48hr. feelings because I have feelings too. I want to help carry our huge trophy because we are the best and we are coached by the best. It is truly great to love our coach again. If anyone else get mads at their coach - e-mail me for advice, for when you look at the overall picture you will be mad at yourself. So vent to me and me only. Good Night
  9. Kasey is apparently done.

Maddox played extremely well against Greenup in the first game, handling the press and making hustle plays. Maddox has shown great character and leadership qualities in practice by always playing hard and in games by picking up his teammates from the bench.Turner and Ferguson have played well on the JV level lately and could also provide a spark, if called upon. ;)

It is a tough job for a teenager to stay positive when they are not playing and believe they should be. These kids have done that and they will be ready if their coach needs to put them in. :fire:

Those who believe that Russell's bench is not deep could be very surprised if the situation calls for it. :flame:

If Kasey is done then so should the coach...Yes, the bench of Ross, Maddux, Clark, Ferguson may surprise us all - They have had amazing patience..perhaps they should have a class for the coach on patience...if he had more we would not be in the mess we are in now - I am glad that Kasey has stood his ground that he would not take anymore - he his better for taking that stand. We love and miss him for he was incredible. If I were the Raceland coach I would be on his door step courting. After all kasey lives in the Raceland district. I would become a Ram Fan then.

  10. Kudos to Radio Dave!! He excells in spite of having Robbie with him! :ylsuper:

Does anyone know if Kasey is back? I think if Kasey is not back tomorrow night - then he will not be coming back. He is not a quitter - this is truly a shame for such talent to be lost because of one person. Does anyone know who the starting 5 will be? Pat Clark was impressive Friday night but is not use to playing an entire game. Sizemore still needs lots of practice. He makes more minus than pluses. Will Ross be back - he is solid just needs encouragement. Will there be enough guys out next year for a team. There is so much negative talk that there will not be a JV team or Varsity. I am glad Robbie is on the radio. I think we need Robbie as a positive influence. He is smarter than the coach at times, so I think it is nice to have him around. I know it is tough being a coach but it has got to better than this....What about Maddux????Was it Fairview or Greenup where he played so well. Another Solid - just need encouragement. When is Senior night? Have a good evening. Gold Star :walk:

  11. Just thinking out loud, but is the problem at Ashland a lack of numbers issue? Ive always been a critic of the way Flynn runs certain things in his basketball system. The entire thing is devoted towards the top 7 or 8 players and the rest of the team is kind of "left out" I was thinking about this the other day but look at all of the athletes he's lost because of this. Last year Brandon Pennington was the only senior on the team and that certainly hurt the cats last year. How much would athletes like Sam Hensley, Adam Clark, or Justin Canty have helped out last year? The class after that had Brandon Williams, Joe Smith, and Alex Wheeler all quit the team before coming back this year for their senior season. Ian Holbrook also quit and has not came back.

And the current junior class has already seen Luke Bonner, Fields Davis, Jared Williams, Kevin Burns and Shane Fairchild(soph) quit. Pretty much all of these players have quit while they were on the varsity and I'm just wondering out loud, how much of an impact could these players have made under Flynn if he could've got them to stick around?

    Russell has the talent.

The talent is definitiely on the benches but there is a huge problem with the coach with communication. What a shame that these boys cannot be lead to the state. It is not fair to them, fans, parents, schools. The coach also has the talent but lacks in motivational skills. The coach also knows why he has lost one of his best players - the quote in Friday nights paper was..........The word Assault was the reason. How unfair to a gifted child. We do need to remember these players are children. Young adults that need to be teachers to teach and guide them. A coach should guide Kasey as they would want one of his children to be guided. I think that Kasey needs to apologize to the coach and the team, but I strongly think that the coach should also apologize to Kasey and the team and lets move on to Rupp. Forgiving and forgetting will make us all stronger in the long run. God put us here to be of service to each other. Coach Dodd has many gifts and talents to share with these boys.Lets move in that direction. He can make an incredible difference. GOLD STAR

  12. Vanhoose misses a 3 at the buzzer for the win.

    Stats to follow.

    Frances

The Russell team is really quite incredible. They definitely need Kasey back for he is one of the best. His talent is unbelievable. The problem is with the coach not the players. I wish we could have a mentoring group to take care of the communication problems. Yes, Russell has the talent on the boys bench to go to state.
