  1. I want to apologize for leaving the dance team off my list, which also is coached by a non-teacher,but unlike the others they could be doing it for the money.::confused:

Nope, jus like the others. For the love of it! Actually she was a dancer on GCHS dance team herself (I believe). That must be b/c love not for a paycheck IMO.

  2. Congrats to West on the win. :thumb:

As for your question, I was checking the local news and KHSAA site for a final to post last night. I didn't see the score reported on either at the last time I cheked late last night. I don't think that Raceland fans have to explain anything but from my perspective anyway there you go.:thumb::D.

I am sure that Raceland will come around as the season goes on and we get the football players back all the way. Raceland was in a deep playoff run that just ended last Friday. Players like Tyler Boyles (who I think is one of the best guards in the 16th region) will come around, get in "basketball shape" and really help the Rams.

You're kidding me right? They ONLY played 1 more game (7 days) than 5 other schools in the 16th region alone!

  3. A program built on transfers is one made of sand. You cannot neglect your younger kids and the feeder program. Hopefully the program can be built from the youth leagues. The high school coaches need to be a part of the program at every level. Not just build for one team.

    :thumb:

Where did the starting five from Russell's Regional winner team attend middle school? I mean did they come from the youth leagues in Russell? This is why people didn't have much faith in the previous regime. They didn't know how to develop talent IMO.

  4. OK, I will wait for another thread on this to start but, didn't he (Russell) miss an extra point last week against Lawrence county? How is that ruled? The holder didn't get the ball down and Dolly didn't get the try off. Does this mean that he didnt miss that one b/c he didn't actually kick it? I am so confused! somebody start that thread.

  5. I don't know about this season. Not my call.

I don't think anyone will argue that private schools don't have district lines. But if a school has open enrollment and reciprical agreements with all it's neighbors then what is the difference?

    State Lines!!!

Don't most kentucky schools warrant tuition requirements from out of state students due to the reciprical agreement not funding an out of state student? Kentucky has never funded an out of state resident with Kentucky taxes (against the law).

  6. Thanks Razor, that sounds about right.

I was thinking that Ashland has only lost maybe two or three times in the last decade to Boyd county. That sounds about right because I think Ashland won 12 or 13 years in a row, because when Boyd finally won didn't they tear down the goal post because that graduating class had never beaten Ashland while they were attending school that is why it was so significant if I remember correctly.

  7. I think poor tackling was Russell's biggest defensive issue, IMHO.

Spin, How many games do you think this has been issue now? Even when they win, they don't tackle well. (i.e. Boyd Co win).

May I remind everyone that this Russell team still likes to hit if given a chance, they just don't want to "wrap up" and tackle their opponent.

  8. Don't count these boys out just yet!

Nobody is counting them out, it's just as RP has said, "maybe the are playing to their abilities" and as ol'dad stated, "it's not hard to stop off tackle when you have 8,9, or 10 in the box".

My point is that they are not as good as they (Russell) think they are and they are getting more "exposed" on a weekly basis, due to the competition.

Lawrence showed that Russell does not have any defensive pressure and the secondary is very suspect. The coaches (russell) was seen to be frustrated with the lack of focus and execution by the players.

  9. Russell's schedule is weak...but look at the non-district games they have scheduled:

    Greenup County (county rival game)

    Boyd County (local rivalry game)

    Ashland (local rivalry game)

Lawrence County (even though they are 0-6, a decent 4A team)

Simon Kenton (a decent 6A school)

Raceland (one of the best 1A teams in the state this year)

Next year they add Ironton back to the schedule...so it is getting better. It is having to play East Carter, West Carter, and Lewis County every year that hurts...and it also hurts that Greenup and Boyd aren't up to standards. I think their schedule makers aren't doing too bad considering what they have to work with.

It's not the scheduling that is hurting the Red Devils, it is the lack of execution of the fundamentals! Same coaches, same game plans, same coaching styles (which has won a state championship and runner-up); it's the players are not executing as well and playing to "Russell standards!":fire:

I know the players in the past were much better athletes, but this years team is not performing to their abilities.

  10. I don't have that kind of time nor will I call out a school. Then you all will be complaining that I making fun of school,families,fans,etc.. for lack of funds. This is my opinion and that is how I back it up. AGAIN, I don't care where they are held. I will be there. In due time we will see attendance results. If by chance I have to eat crow because I was wrong..I am really ok with that.

The attendance may be down, I agree, but I think the atmosphere will be even better! The stadium will be fuller and it will feel more like a big game than an empty college stadium.

If the Louisville or N.Kentucky teams don't go and support their teams, then the smaller venue shouldn't be a problem anymore.

Lastly, Has anyone ever heard of Pep buses or Charter buses to the game? They make great memories and are convienent to fans.

Plus, don't we gain an hour when you drive into the Central Time Zone? so a 5 hour trip you would only have to leave 4 hrs before game time to make it still?

  11. After this week 0-5 Lewis county, Russell will only win one more game the remainder of the year! That may only be a first round home playoff win.

Russell is struggling majorly for "Russell Standards", and they need some major improvements in many, many areas before the playoffs.

They still can not tackle! They can hit hard but they do not wrap up their arms.

There is no pressure by the d-line, and the secondary is confused.

They are not executing Coach Morris' game plans.

QB play is spotty, he seems to be slingin it to an area with a prayer and hope instead of delivering passes as he was earlier this year. It could be because he has been getting drilled by D's the last 3 weeks (poor line protection).

Finally, the on field observed "enthusiasm" is low and I don't see many (if any) senior leaders stepping up.

I think Abrams and Rice are the Devils only hope and they will determine Russell's fate(s) week after week.

  12. Ashland wins for the 6th straight time over the Lions.

What is the Cats record vs BC over the last 20 years?

I do not have any facts, but my mind says its something like 17-3 or 18-2, can anyone confirm this or give me the actual records of these two teams over the last 20 or 25 years?

I believe that Ashland has destroyed the County over this time period.

  13. SpinD, you are right! McGlone will know what to do, that's a given. But when I look at both Ashland's and Russell's schedule.

I see Russell going 3 - 3 and ending the season with 3 straight losses, with two weeks off and heading into the playoffs on a low note as the #2 seed.

Ashland will go 3-3 also but only on a two game losing streak heading into their playoffs as the #4 seed (tough dist).

I have never agreed with this type of statement! When you lose, you lose. You don't get "good things" out of loses. YOU get exposed! Russell was totally exposed tonight.

Poor tackling team (Boyd & Ashland), and poor blocking (Ashland), not that intense and out of shape.

    May be a short season?

  15. Well, I'll confirm that Ashland dominated each and every phase of the game. Russell was indeed undisciplined. 2 unsportsmanlike penalties, numerous false starts put them in 3rd and longs. Arm tackled like I've never seen before. I can't remember which poster it was who said that Russell would not get beat on the ground, they were not only beat on the ground but they were, in fact, beat into it. Good luck to both teams next week.

How many times did we see Russell walking around on the field? Not very good shape neither.

Spindoc, I don't even think you can use the word "tackle" in the same sentence as Russell Football tonight!

Now Ashland Destroyed Russell's lines all night long! Dominated the entire game, and even the student section ruled Russell Again in another game.

Congrats to the Cats and I hope Russell can go back to basics this week before they step onto a field again.

  16. So, When did Boyd County become a poor or weak team? They are ranked #6 in the super seven with Russell @ 2 and Ashland @ 4. Russell has always played Ashland, Boyd and Greenup every year for that reason, to improve their strength of schedule. So I guess Ashland is the next "weak" opponent on the Russell Schedule. Greenup is also on Ashland's schedule just not so early, and I think it will be a battle with the game being decided within the last 8 minutes of the game. Russell 28 - Ashland 21.

  17. With open enrollment it is the same as everyone else. The whole world is the 16th regions district. If you don't believe it just exam everyones rosters.

In an attempt to inform the uninformed it doesn't matter where you move if it is for athletic purposes.

From what I understand Adams wasn't going to play this year regardless of whether he stayed at Ashland or left.

Will he be playing for RH this season?

BTW, there are no "district" lines for private schools. They are allowed to enroll students from wherever they come from. Granted, some of us have opinions on out of state athletes (Belfry & N.KY included), they are still allowed to participate if they are properly enrolled in that school.

  18. I am actually happy for both of those kids even though it sends the wrong message. I am glad they are able to play. Scott Co should run the table with these guys, Guyn, Phares, etc.... I mean come on.

Any word on Flannery? I am sure he is next at being awarded eligibility.

Who is Flannery, where is he from, and where is he transferring too?

  19. If a talented young man or young lady, want to transfer to another school and move a long distance, I have no problem with them picking the best option.

The only reason Euton and Jackson, are being criticized by some, is their talent level and choice of school. If they both enrolled, at a school which was 2-24, very little would be said, other than how they will help make that school better.

Let them get their education at Scott County and play athletics, their choice.

The pizza wasn't bad, cold but not bad.

Only your opinion here. I think the sentiment would be the same with many, many, many posters on BGP, transfer rules and the enforcement of them would be continued to be argued the same way (with me and others) as they are now. I do not see how anyone can argue against a family "moving" into a school district from another district and not be ruled eligible. I just can't support the decision about Jackson without more information, until then I will continue to criticize that ruling.
