  1. Panthers go 10-32 from the free throw line. It was an UGLY game. Dunbar is very physical with absolutely no shooting ability. They didn't even attempt a three pointer. Lay up or no shot basically was their offense. Panthers were up 32 points when the Etown starters came out.

This bunch of Etown Seniors have won 87% of their games since all joining the varsity as Sophmores. 85-13 last three years.

Let the post season begin!!!

  3. Scott County would wallop ETown. Afterall, ETown got walloped by Fern Creek and Fern Creek is average.

Etown lost to Scott County in the Toyota Dog and Pony show by 3 points. Not a walloping by any means. Fern Creek game is the only game this season for the Panthers in which they just didn't show up

  4. Pettigrew, Atcher, Harris, Baldwin, Lively, all played a super game tonight.

Panthers took an early lead from the first tip, a couple of one point leads for JH, but over all the Panthers dicatated this game. Kudos to Coach Haire for mixing up the defense, and keeping JH shooting very poorly from outside.

No question all the tough road games made this one easier for Etown, no worries with the hostile enviroment. :dancingpa

  5. I don't think its a foregone conclusion that E-Town will represent the 5th. I certainly HOPE they do (unless Bardstown can pull some kind of miracle) because I think down the stretch they have played the most consistent, and with Atcher's play this year to add to Pettigrew's presence I think they are the most dynamic team. But JH's defense is just shut-down tough, and once in a while Central Hardin just shoots the lights out. I think the 5th region tournament could be awesome.

Drawing the 13th in the 1st round isn't my idea of "easing in," but it might be nice to drop a giant early and be the "big dawg" in the 2nd round.

You are so correct. JH is a huge task, I don't know if Etown can pull it off again this year. So far it's 1-1, Etown won the KOB championship against JH, then JH beats Etown at home in Jan. Second regular season district game this Tuesday for the #1 seed in the Dist. Tournament. Should be a barn burner! Gotta love it!

As for Bardstown, they are doing nothing but winning, I haven't seen them play so can't really comment. I hope they win today!

  6. You're contradicting yourself in the same post. First you say, "I didn't say cheat," then you say, "It was a hose job." Which is it? Either you're accusing the refs of conspiring to help out South Laurel, or South Laurel did a good job getting E-town's best player in foul trouble. I don't see where there's any middle ground.

I don't think the officials set out, or conspired to cheat anyone, but I will say that a predisposition definitely exists when a team is as highly touted as SL was last year shows up. Everyone knew who Walt Allen was, it was expected that they would advance against a no name team.

Deny it all you want, doesn't make me change my mind. Watched too many high school games and have witnessed it on more than one occasion. It's human nature to become somewhat involved in the entire event don't you think. I say SL was the media darling, everyone knew(including the officials) who Walt Allen was, no one knew who Steffphon Pettigrew was, until the first game. When they meet, guess who gets the edge?

Just like when you hear the "rookie" isn't going to get that call against the "veteran" in pro sports. It happens.

Let's hope that Etown gets another shot at SL,(gotta win region first!!) it may be the same result, but then again, Steffphon isn't going to score 2 points in only 11 minutes. Call two fouls on Steffphon in the first three minutes this year.....they won't do it!!

  7. I'll have to disagree with your assessment. I was no more than 10 feet away from the floor, right by SL's first-half basket. The fouls were legit. James Haire said so after the game. You are alleging that the referees somehow cheated E-town, and that somehow they were influenced by media coverage, which is preposterous. We're not talking about local homers, we're talking about the best officials in the state.

Bottom line is a youthful Pettigrew was the most dangerous player in the E-town arsenal, and SL devised a succesful plan to neutralize him by forcing him to make tough decisions on defense.

Coach Haire won't say anything that is negative about the officials, never has, never will. I didn't say cheat, you did. You have your opinion, I have mine. Steffphon didn't have two fouls that early all year long. It was a hose job, that's my opinion and I am sticking to it. SL devised a plan to go at Steffphon I will give you that, but that is all I will agree with.

  8. their collective inability to stop adding emotional, or situational emphasis on the calls that they make. Watch NBA officials. They don't get overly enthusiatic about any call. The most annoying officials are the ones who may not have an emotional stake in the game, yet seem to add that intensity to calls that they make, especially late in a game.

And for those who don't like fans arguing calls, too bad, every fan should have the opportunity to yell all they want, or not!!

It's part of all sports, let's hope it always will be. That said, no cussing, no threatening, name calling etc are ever appropriate and the BIGGEST taboo for any high school fan, is to attack any player (read kid) at any time. No matter that players' behavior.

Gotta roll.....game starts in a few :dancingpa

  9. 5th Region couldnt have drew a tougher opponent, this prolly doent make South to happy either

If and only If the Panthers can make it back to Rupp, I think it will be interesting to see how they fare against South Laurel with Pettigrew in the game for more than 11 minutes.

First game Pettigrew is the MVP, 18 or so pts and 10 rbs. Next game the refs call two early CHEAP, and I mean CHEAP fouls on Pettigrew and the Panthers were finished. He had 2 points in 11 minutes.

I would love to see SL/Etown again, Pettigrew has now garnered enough attention that he won't get those cheap fouls called against him. I bet SL doesn't like the draw one bit!

  10. and I can't say they "smoked" a team? I wasn't taunting. Maybe I should have said dominated? Is that any better? No hate, just stating facts. It was a dominating performance for my boys.

And yes, the media has fallen in love with, IMHO, an over rated John Hardin squad. They beat a couple of last years good teams but over all their schedule is no where near the top.
