Panthers will see big time performers come to Charlie Rawlings Memorial Coliseum. Best team Etown will see all year. Coach Haire always looks to play the toughest of schedules late in the season. No Cup Cakes for the Panthers.
-
Chris Gohman from Etown is one of the top juniors in the state.
-
With good wins against Warren East, Campbellsville, and Taylor County. With virtually no experience coming back, and the loss of Steffphon Pettigrew, the Panthers started the season 1-4. Coach Haire, once again has this team improving and improving fast! 5 straight wins going into District play!
GO BIG E!!

Panthers have scored 62 runs and given up 5 ...total in the post season.
Panther Ace Sean Bouthilette takes the hill today. Should be a good one!
GO BIG E!!

Mr. Basketball 2007!!!!! :dancingpa

Yes it is pre i run track and cross country so i figured it would go along with all of it. But do you know what time Mr. Basketball it will be annouced?
2pm today at The Elizabethtown High School. EHS' first Mr. Basketball banner will be hanging from the rafters with all the other State banners!
2006-07 Ky Mr. Basketball.......Steffphon Pettigrew!!:dancingpa

He led them though. Let me ask you a question. Did Pettigrew play against anyone like Ballard, Bryan Station, Tates Creek, Lexington Catholic, Madison Central?
Or Hungtington High school, the great team from Baltimore, the great team from Nevada, and AJ Stewart's high school in Florida?
Steffphon played against
Doss 35 pts
PRP 26 pts
Fairdale 24 pts
Tates Creek 32 pts
Cov Holmes 29 pts
Adair County 28, and 20 pts
John Hardin 54 pts
Ohio All Stars 26pts
Scott County probably wins the State or comes close w/o Walls. The team was stacked. Etown on the other hand, had to replace 10 seniors and lost the only two with experience to broken bones. If Steffphon had one player like a Bud Mackey on the squad with him, Etown is competing for a title. W/O Steffphon, Etown wins maybe 4 games. Without Walls Scott Co wins the title, or loses in the final.

I was also at the game. The fans were really into the game. Great for an all star game. This was the first time I got to see Pettiegrew play, and was I impressed. He has a thick body; and great hands; Good rebounder and a great offensive game. I think he is a major D1 talent. I talked the coach for the Ky team and he said Gillispie had already showed interest!! This kid could definitely play at UK!!!
Friday night, Pettigrew also won the 3 point shooting contest among the Ky boys, and was runner up overall.
He was also the overall 1 on 1 winner

Riley gets my vote. Best in the state year in, year out. I like Mabry also, he's a good one. :flame: :scared:

Etown lost 10 seniors and returned only two players with varsity experience. Both of those players went down in the 2nd and 3rd games of the season with broken bones. Neither really returned and played as well as they might/could have if not for the injuries. Meanwhile Steffphon is playing with a bunch of kids with NO experience at all. He literally won all but 4 games this season on his own. I think Scott County had enough talent without Walls to still win the title.
Steffphon is your 2007 Mr. Basketball. :thumb:

Pettigrew played against a few teams in the state tournament, and some that didn't make the tournament but were pretty good. Looks like his team failed in the W column but that doesn't mean he didn't play well, just means his team just wasnt' good enough.
Scoring....
Adair 20
Tates Creek 32
Owensboro 30
Adair 31
Fairdale 26
Doss 35
PRP 24
Holmes 29
Double digits in rebounds every game. Steffphon had to do it by himself. He scored 51% of the TEAMS points for the season. Two school records of 52 pts then 54 pts. No one stopped him, even though he was Etowns only real scoring threat. He would be double and triple teamed all season. If he had Bud Mackey to dish to, he would have had triple doubles all season.
If Etown didn't have Steffphon on the team this year, they win 4 games. If Scott Co didn't have Walls on the team, they still win State.
Walls is a great player, Steffphon is better.
Mr. Basketball is an individual award. Steffphon was the BEST individual.

What if this were true......
Patterson and Lucas sign with UK.
Morris decides to come back for his senior year
Ramon Harris transfers to Gonzaga, freeing up a schollie.
Jared Carter goes on academic scholly.
Stephon Pettigrew signs with UK.
A qualified Isaiah Rusher signs on with the Cats taking the final scholarship.
See we can play these what if games all day....
Sounds great to me!! "Pettigrew is a machine" James Haire :dancingpa

The award isn't really about what the player "went on to do" - but about what kind of high school career he had.
That's exactly what I am talking about as well. Steffphon is the leading scorer in the state and the #2 rebounder in the state. What else could you ask for from an indiviual player? Can you name a player in recent history that was at the top of list on both counts? He accomplished this while being double and triple teamed on every single outing. Steffphon is the best player in the state.:fight:
-
Early departure and no regional game knocks him our of Mr. Basketball contention.
Rex Chapman's team also lost in the first round of the district tournament his senior year, but he was undeniably the best player in the state as is Steffphon this year. :fight:
-
Ok now that Pettigrew and E-town have lost in the first round what does everyone think about Matt Walls for Mr. Basketball??
I disagree. Rex Chapman was named Mr. Basketball even though his team lost in the first round of the district tournament. I think he went on to do pretty well.:fight:

If you can't raise a little cain with the refs, where is the fun? No name calling, no cursing, no badgering, but gimme a break. If it's a bad call, it's a bad call. If the refs don't care who wins, who cares what the fans say? I have seen refs that are obviously tainted against some teams, or favor certain players. No question about it. Most of the time none of them really know what the hell is going on anyway, so it usually evens out!

Noppy Noffsinger
E-town 94? I think

Panthers left their game in Etown for this one. Holmes is athletic and quick, no question about it. Etown played the bullfighter defense, Ole and let them get a layup. The Hill kid can play. Steffphon battled with ZERO help from his team mates tonight. Our guards played with FEAR in their eyes. We turned the ball over w/o any pressure at all. UNREAL!
Good Luck Holmes, if you guys stayed focused you can make some noise in the post season.
You definetly spanked my beloved Panthers tonight.
-
Etown dismantled Central on their home floor to secure the #1 seed in the district. Based on record Central is the best team....right now. 17th district and 5th Region should be good and quite possibly come down to Etown and Central playing for both titles. Who knows, it's high school tourney time!
-
Honeslty I think it would be hard not to vote for Matt. He plays on the #1 team in the state and averages over 20 points a game with atleast 2 other kids a night scoring in double figures. He was i'm not sure if he still is the number one free throw shooter in the state and has hit more clutch shots than anyone in the state. I honestly believe if Matt played for E-town(which is terrible this year) he wouold average pettigrew's numbers. Pettigrew is playing nowhere near the talent Matt is and I personally think Tubby Smith is outside of his mind if he offers Pettigrew instead of Walls
Etown has been struggling this season and at times have looked bad, however, when you lose two of your starters three games in, you can see why. Panthers are back to full strength and I believe they can compete with any team in the state.
If Matt played for Etown he might score more than 20, but I am certain he can't also bring down 13.8 rebounds, 3 blocks, 3 steals, on and on. Steffphon is far and away the best player in the state. Tubby would do well to offer Steffphon a scholarship. I don't think he will when it's all said and done. We will see how Steffphon does, somewhere. I hope it's UK, but won't be disappointed when they don't offer. Then Steffphon can come back to Rupp with someone and beat the Cats. It's a tradition lately.

Steffphon Pettigrew drops 43 and Bennie Laprade, Etown's center who broke both of his arms in the second game of the season, added 19. What a comeback for this kid! Panthers are looking better every night.

Panthers finally getting healthy, and looking good!

The best story and I am repeating, was the coach who told his player to go and guard the ref. The ref asked him what he was doing and the player told the ref that the coach said to guard you. The player wouldnt' quit, so the ref called a T. The ref then went to the coach and asked him what he was doing, and the coach said, "I told him to guard you because you were the only one beating us!"

Panthers signed this contract last year. Panthers had a hard time getting other teams to play us the last few years, last year because of Steffphon and the recent success. Coach Haire will play anyone!! It will be a huge challenge for the Panthers to hang with Holmes, let alone beat them!! But anything can happen, that's why they play the games!! I would rather watch this type of team come in than a weaker opponent that is a sure win.
