Interviews apparently took place earlier this week. Three people with Boone County (not necessarily meaning the high school of same name) ties were interviewed and another candidate from outside immediate area. they will probably be naming the coach in the next week. It looks like they had some solid candidates and I am betting the the new coach will have extensive experience working with high school girls and have a reputation as a coach who is a winner and also someone who demands excellence in academics and athletics. Ryle girls job has been a roller coaster-- not sure if it is the coaching (this will be the third in four years!) or the expectations of the parents????????
who was the outside candidate?

So how far is it from Holmes High School?
Just wondering because if I TANK it there, the only location I know to go by is the high school itself.
I'm really wanting to see Kirsten Allen pitch in person and see how dominant she really is.
THANKS!!
about 5 minutes...

Holmes hosted the Bulldog Bash at the park in Latonia, I only know it as the old dump off of 43rd street. It also hosts the police impound lot. Very nice park, has 4-5 baseball/softball fields and soccer fields in the back.
It's the old FOPA fields...off decoursey pike.

Looking at Ryle's PE teachers there is only one who I know of that has any bball background, Troy McKinley. I doubt very seriously if he is considering coaching the girls but who knows.
I believe they have a coach, they are just waiting to announce it...they might have to contact the candidates that didn't receive the job...I think we'll know something by Wednesday...I would agree that they'll stay in house...

Troy Cooper throws 161 feet in discus at Lloyd meet. New school record, and meet record. BTW also won shot by about 6 feet. He is simply head and shoulders better than anyone in NKY.
How does he compare to the rest of the state? Ohio?

Do you know any of the people interviewed?

Saw the same article today...4 coaches from girls' teams resigned...could she be a possible candidate at Ryle?

You know, when did high school sports become solely about the elite level players? When did a college scholarship become the sole criteria over whether a sport, or player for that matter, was worthy of participation? Sports is about competition, physical challenges, mental preparation, teamwork, learning all of those skills and then some. Yes, the best do go on to another level and that is wonderful, but how dare we forget about the vast, vast majority who play for the love of the game!! Slow pitch does and always should have a place in high school sports for those who want to play it just like the last 3 or 4 golfers on the schools golf team should have a place to play. They're not going to win many scholarships either (exceptions at places like CCH and St. X noted). If we CAN field a team and players WANT to comnpete then by all means provide that opportunity!!
simply a magnificent answer...:ylsuper:

None that I know of.
I am pretty sure they are interviewing candidates now...anyone know any names yet?

I think it is really dumb to have slow pitch because you cant play slow pitch in college and there is only like 10 teams in kentucky that do. Thats very easy to win state with 10 teams in the league
Sorry you feel that way, but no matter what, kids need something to participate in. Augusta's players found out that they were going all fast pitch next season, and they all quit the team. I think this will happen to some of these smaller schools. As far as not playing in college, Lloyd had a player by the name of Beth Fields that played slow pitch in high school, walked on to Thomas More's fast pitch team in college, and belted a homerun her first at bat. :thumb:

Right now I would have to say that CC's Cigliotti(LF) and Kitchen(P) are CC's best. HC has an outstanding 3rd basemen(Wolfe) and SS(name?). Scott has a great LCF, and Lloyd has a good SS(Lee). Everything else is debatable.

What happened to Terry Trame?
he resigned the position...

Joe's Bar and Grill. Fastpitch is where it is at.
According to who? Holy Cross, a predominant slow pitch team, has taken down some solely fast pitch teams this season. This shows us something...don't knock teams because they enjoy competing in something that you object to...

are there any candidates yet?

Not sure about the state of KY, but there's a great national website out there that tracks regional competition. http://www.dyestat.com

Not to get off subject but I was wondering how do these schools have enough girls to field a slow pitch team and a fast pitch team. Do some girls play both?
HC and Lloyd girls play both. Scott and CC are big enough schools to have two separate teams. HC plays their 10 required fast pitch games, then dedicates the rest of their season to slow pitch. Then they finish it off by participating in the fast pitch district tournament.
-
You cannot leave out Scott and Campbell County, or even Newport. Scott has the most starters back from last season, and Campbell has great talent and depth at all positions. I would agree that CC, Scott, HC, and Lloyd are the big four right now. All four have beaten one another. Scott beat Lloyd 9-6 and Lloyd beat Scott 18-3. Lloyd beat HC 9-8 smf HC beat Lloyd 6-2. Campbell has beaten Scott and HC, but not Lloyd, and I believe Scott has beaten them all at least once.

Actually according to the Holy Cross coach's comments in the paper, the state will continue to allow Slow pitch softball as a sport but will not be hosting or recognizing a State Champion. The slow pitch teams can hold their own tournament to determine a champion. So maybe that solution will allow the smaller teams to still have participation by students in a sport and the larger schools that field a fast pitch team can continue to offer a slow pitch team for those who want to play.
One can only hope. This gives a chance to kids that usually might not play. Also, I see schools like Cov Cath and St. Henry have added boys sports teams that aren't prominent in KY. CC added LaCrosse and St. H added men's volleyball. I love to see when schools offer more options to kids out there. :thumb:

The issue is that a lot of these smaller, NKY schools will not be able to field fast pitch teams due to lack of interest. And if they cannot field a team because of this, participation or not, there are going to be Title IX issues that arise. Face it, it one way or another, it's going to hurt girl's athletics in general when it's gone. And I agree, they should have two separate seasons, one in the fall and the other in the spring, but the volleyball Gods in Frankfort, or wherever the KHSAA is, won't allow that one to happen.

Kate Harper of Lloyd Memorial will sign to play with Midway College next season. She will join NKY standouts Jackie Hicks of Boone County and Carmen Firth of Dixie at midway. Pretty good class coming in.
-
Has Gray played in two all star games already? Isn't that the limit for NCAA rules? Does this mean she is not eligible for KY/Indiana all star game?
Does she get an exemption because she's Miss Basketball?
What about all these McDonald's all americans? They play in more than 2 all star games. OJ Mayo, for one, has.

I read a thread earlier today that said Terry Trame of Ryle High School in Union, KY had resigned. Great guy. Will be missed in the ranks. Good luck to him, and good luck to the Raiders in their search.

Kate Harper of Lloyd will join NKY area standouts Carmen Firth and Jackie Hicks at Midway College.
Tabitha Lockard and Brittany Mullins, also of Lloyd, are in the works of signing with Berea.
