  1. *Jackson County - Not highly rated but I'll bet every coach dreads playing them.

*Clay County - Very well coached and makes every game a "tussle"

    * B'Ville - Another well coached team that has some sized and a good shooter.

    * Middlesboro - A very athletic team this year that will cause even the best teams to struggle.

    * Cawood - Very good shooter and very good inside player that can cause opposing teams problems

*Red Bird - One of the states all time great coaches that is lacking in talent but overflowing with heart...

All other teams in the 13th are either so low that they can't possibly be overlooked or their ranked in the top 5 or 6...

  2. I really don't see placing Bell that high, especially this early in the year.

They have lost so much from last year and really only have one proven player returning. I understand they are well coached but you still need a few horses to race with.. here's my 13th ranking, based on returning/lost talent and keep in mind that the few teams at the top are so close it's unreal....

    1. Corbin

    2. Cumberland

    3. Jackson County

    4. Pineville

    5. South Laurel

    6. B'Ville

    7. Middlesboro

    8. Cawood

    9. Knox

    10. Clay Co.

    11. North Laurel

    12. Bell Co

    13. Whitley

    14. Red Bird

    15. Lynn Camp

    16. OBI

    17. Williamsburg

    18. Evarts

    19. Harlan

  3. I think when you look at the "coaching" aspect you have to put John D. and Phipps up there with the best. They consistantly put teams on the floor that are competitive with a much smaller talent pool to pull from. That is what I look for when someone asks me to identify a good or great coach. Also, you have to give credit where it's due because the South Laurel program has certainly been on top for some time in the 13th. after that I'd tend to go with Strange, Petroski, and Nolan. There are so many worthy coaches in the 13th especially at Clay and Bell but the fact remains that several of the teams "become" a better team due to transfers or kids moving around while the ones mentioned above seem to be competitive year in and year out. With the talent they have brought up over the years.

  4. Im not 100 percent positive on all players but i know Cawood will contribute Josh Caldwell, and Cumberland will have two guards who will recieve alot of playing time this yr Zach Blanton and Paul David Creech. There are others from these two teams that i am leaving out that have lots of talent but cannot place there names.Harlan County High school will contend for the region if the players can come together.

  5. Cawood

    First team

    G - Phil Cox

    G - Blake Hubbs

    G - David Hensley

    F - Nick Sanford

    F - Greg Coldiron

    Second team

    G - David Parks

    G - Paul Hearld

    G - Lonnie Huff

    F - Everly Eads

    C - Boots Smallwood

    3rd team

    G - Brandon Tolliver

    G - Lynn Rhymer

    G - Darryl Day

    F - Jeff Osborne

    C - Garry Henson

    HDE,

While I like your first two teams, I somehow think that Rhymer should be included a bit higher than 3rd team.... I mean if anything change him and Huff positions... I also think that by placing Osborne and Henson on the 3rd team was to "over rated". I saw these two play and henson could be in the top 100 or even 50 to play there but certainly neither should be in the top 15 all time at Cawood. I think we are forgetting a few "honorable" mentions like the ones that surrounded Hearld on that talented team and possibly a few that played some years ago.... but I did enjoy your list....

  6. I saw all three in action, Cox hands down was the best, Sanford could have been in the NBA if he had went about things differently, (I watched him play on the all-star team that included Rex Chapman and Felton Spencer among others way back, he, IMO, was the best player on the Freedom Hall floor that night) Hubbs would be a distance third to these two.

Could Cox have ended up in the NBA? if you watched them all three play then i will agree with you i only had pleasure to watch Hubbs in person and watch a few game films of the other 2, but for them to be this much better than Hubbs they must have been un-believable because Hubbs was a monster of the offensive side of the ball.

  7. Isn't this a shame, if a High School team wasn't selected, because lack of turmoil.

What does this say of our society, as to what we viewers like to watch. As for MTV, it's putrid anyway.

:ylsuper: :dancingpa :thumb: The first 2 seasons wasnt very good anyways, and Scott Countys descision was very smart IMO

  8. Hey coach, Cumberland played Cawood in their 2nd or 3rd game of the summer, which was only the 2nd or

3rd game playing with Wilson and were clearly a little sluggish and still handled Cawood pretty easy as cawood hit a couple 3's very late to cut it to a 4 point final. As far as Caldwell hurting Cumberland, that was really not the case, Cawood had only 37 points and Rhymer got hot and had about 25 of them. As for Miller, when Cumberland played Central in the summer Cumberland was a matchup nightmare for them because Johnson can and did guard Miller very effectively. Wilson has a long way to go to get as good as he is capable of being after sitting out a year, but with 20 plus summer games under his belt and an impressive showing at the state aau games he has a good start.

Hey Old School Dr. they dont keep fouls in summer league games , im not saying Wilson is'nt a good player what im saying is i would choose Miller and Caldwell before him right now, and if i remember Caldwell had pheumonia and still played Cumberland.

  9. Desmond Johnson - Cumberland

    Josh Crawford - Corbin

    Nick Brumback - Jackson County

    Dustin Day - Pineville

    Brock Leisge - Cumberland

    Garfield Wilson - Cumberland

    Josh Seidel - North Laurel

    Justin Hobbs - Clay County

    Nick smith - Middlesboro

    James Strange - Pineville

    Cody miller - Knox Central

    Cody Messer - Barbourville

    Nick Shannon - North Laurel

    Josh Caldwell - Cawood

    Brooks Hogue - Cumberland

    Adam Rhymer - Cawood

    Josh Whitaker - Bell County

    Madison Johnson - Corbin

    Shawnta Zachary - Bell County

    St John - South Laurel

Ok again Garfield Wilson can be a good player but you think he is already above Cody Miller?, you have almsot Cumberland starting five in the rankings. But from what i watched over the summer Wilson will be good after he settles down but right now i would take Miller, and Caldwell should be ahead. I watched Cawood and Cumberland play earlier in the summer. It seemed as if Caldwell wasnt 100% but he still held his own and gave Cumberland trouble. Im not sure if Cumberland played Knox Central though but the Miller kid is a match up nightmare hes a good 6'5 strong, has a good first step, and can shoot. Im sorry i just dont see how Wilson can be put above those 2, not yet anyways.

  10. Elliot Co. competed at the latest Blue-Chip camp as a team and did very well playing against some of the best players from the south and around the United States. From what ive watched of Elliot they are a 100% team they never stop and never give up, yea they argue some calls but what team dont? the thing is they are arguing because they expect to win and want to win and thats a quality that alot of teams have lost. I love the way that Elliot plays i wish i could get my team to play like them:ylsuper:

  11. Regional finals will be pushin it, but they have a chance to make some noise they have potential. They have two players that have potential to take over games in Rhymer and Caldwell, and good young players. They have a shot, but then again alot of teams in the 13th have a shot :thumb: :jump:

  12. You must have not been around when Phil Cox or Nick Sanford were playing. Hubbs was a good mountain high school player. Cox and Sanford were great players for anywhere. A complete different level.

im not taking anything away from Phil Cox or Nick Sanford they were great, and your right i never watched them in person but i have watched films. Blake was not the greatest Phil Cox was the greatest but i believe that Blake should at least be mentioned, he was un-stopable on the offensive end, or at least he was untill he met Aaron Cash in the region his senior yr :thumb: :jump:

  13. Evarts- Hershal Hicks

    Harlan- Wallace Jones

    Cawood- Phil Cox/Nick Sanford

    Cumberland- Garret Gregory

    Corbin-Frank Selvey

    Middlesboro-Lawrance Buell

    Oneida Baptist- Ben Franklin

    Clay County-Ritchy Farmer

    Lynch- Forest Pearson

So Blake Hubbs is not even mentioned? Even though he did not end up at a college he does hold the scoring title at cawood.
